I picked a copy of this up for my friend at a local gaming store (he's a Marvel freak and this is the first Capcom fighter w/the X-Men) and I popped it in and wow, it really shows it's age. I don't mean it in a bad way but compared to something further down the line it really shows how much more fluid the animation has become over the years despite the fact the sprites are probably the same or based off it.

Still, I wanted to check it out myself. Some of these characters (like Silver Samurai and Spiral) don't appear in the other games, or at least as much as the more popular characters.

Oh, and I will say this: Omega Red can sod off. Dude, not even funny. Why does her/his/it's super take the same damage from me when I'm able to block some of it compared to not blocking it at all?

Didn't play it that much but still I have fond memories of the arcade version, as it was a time when I was still big into both fighters and the X-men comics.

It's too bad they followed up on it by branching into the Marvel and versus series... not to knock on the likes of Iron Man and Spidey but there are plenty of cool X-Men characters to go around, and there's a lot more story-wise you could do with the game keeping it within the X-men canon without expanding to the rest of the Marvel universe (to say nothing of Street Fighter and the whole Capcom side).  Well aware that I'm in the minority with that opinion, and at least they included most of the original game's cast characters and more for Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

I also recall being a bit skeptical at the time about the anime style they gave the character designs.  A game featuring Jim Lee's cool but gritty art style would've been something else.

Still though, Capcom fighting game, Storm, Ice Man and Cyclops, screen-filling special attacks... good times.

Psylocke was always my personal fave in both comics and games.

Interesting fact: A lot of the voice actors from the TV show voice the Marvel characters.
