Soundtrack Central The best classic game music and more

Yay, the first official game music post after Adam's intro! ^_^  I'll repost the one I did on the older forum, which still seems to be running since I have it bookmarked -- but will transfer it to here.

The music score wasn't done by Koji Hayama this time around, but Soichi Terada, who was responsible for the first Ape Escape. From what I've heard so far, it seems Terada's got an excellent piece of work on his hands. Heavy on melody, varying styles, and thematics -- yeah, this is very enjoyable stuff. The Freaky Monkey Five each has a theme designated for themselves now; I've only faced White and Blue so far, but White's in particular is an electronica-hard rockin' piece of goodness. My two favorite songs thus far: the wild west town, "A Fistful of Bananas," hearkens back to Michiko Naruke's finest from the Wild Arms series, and 'Specter TV Studio,' which is groovin' in all the best possible ways.

Although I plan to do a full score recording once I've unlocked the sound test, here's a 33 MB-sized zip file for a partial recording I'd done up. This first batch includes: Alley of The Dragon [Monkey White Battle], Seaside Resort [My 36th Wedding], Specter TV Studio [A No-Holds-Barred-Exposé], The Ballroom Dance, and Wild West Town (A Fistful of Bananas). Enjoy!

YES!!  We can now put in proper (parenthesis) and "quotation marks," as evidenced by my above-posted Fistful of Bananas test.  Thank you, Adam!  Thankyouthankyouthankyou!  big_smile

Thanks, I was gonna suggest that your repost it here, actually.  I promise I didn't cut off the old forums right after your post on purpose smile

And about the quotation marks and parentheses, um, yeah... nice to have those working.  Not so much a new feature as a loooong overdue bug fix  hmm

Hoo boy.

Terada, hm? Well, hopefully he's come further along than the first AE. I'm personally holding off until I can play the game (waiting on my birthday next Wednesday, you see), but thanks for the update just the same.

Angela Jan 20, 2006

Yeah, I think Terada definitely makes a far better showcasing here than he did in AE1.  His use of techno and drum and bass-like percussion has made its way into a number of the new songs, but they better accompany the stronger, more likeable melodies this time around.

Here's a few more recordings I've done tonight.  This batch includes: Cyber Ace, Fantasy Knight, New Gadget, The Hot Springs, and the adorably-bouncy new vocal song, Happy Sensation.

Four more songs up for grabs, and this batch just so happens to have my most favorite song yet:  The Legend of Ninja-Sumo, the Monkey Yellow Battle!  The other three include Eversummer Island 2, Mount Amazing, and Toytown 2.

On other boards double posting is frowned upon since there is the ability to edit the post instead. I guess this can be applied to here now as well? ;o)

*shrugs*  Are people frowning?   It's early days yet, so you'll have to forgive me for any 'rule-bending' I was inadvertently partaking in.  I'll glady accomodate my posts by using the edit function more in cases like this, though.

But anyway..... any thoughts on the music? ;)

Angela Jan 24, 2006

Here are the last two batches of songs I'll be putting up.  Ape Escape 3 Recordings 04 includes: Banana Heartbreak (Monkey Pink Battle), Gunfight At The Monkey Corral (Monkey Blue Battle), Miracle Ninja, and Super Monkey Throw Stadium.

Ape Escape 3 Recordings 05 includes: Blazing Fart Strike (Monkey Red Battle), Gorilliac Face Off! (Specter Wars), Shopping Area, and The Two Snakes.  (The Two Snakes is the final cutscene in the mini-game Mesal Gear Solid, and features a brief reworking of the "Metal Gear Solid Main Theme" by Masato Koda.)

Crazy stuff, which is something I've come to expect from Terada. He's good, better than most vgm composers who do chirpy stuff. Only Iwadare tops him.

Hope you have enough time to complete this Rip, I'll be downloading along with you posting links in this thread. :o

Did Hayama score AE2? I'm playing it now and the music is... erm. Decent.

Angela, thank you for this music!  I haven't listened to much of it yet, but I'm hoping it's as good as Terada's work on Pumped & Primed (Gacha Mecha Stadium Saru Battle), which was great.  I will try to return with my impressions of the music when I have heard it all.  Thanks again!

WOW...

Seriously in love with the Winterville A theme. Didn't expect anything like that, either in the series, or from the composer.

Pretty, isn't it?  Although I think Snowball Mountain and Snowball Ski Slope still wins out for personal favorite wintry music, Winterville does paint the appropriately-serene night scene very well.

I second that. Angela, have you finished yet? I'm guessing you have and you're enjoying the music before all the rest of us smile

Hey, Muzza!  Well, I've unlocked everything from the sound test, so I've got all of those recorded.  I've yet to unlock the "Ultim-ape Fighter" game, though, so if that has a designated theme, I'd like to get that too.  Other than that, there are still some miscellaneous songs, such as the Gadget Trainer track, and even the Warp Pad Station, that I still need to do.

In any case, I'd be more than happy to make CD-R copies of the complete soundtrack for anyone who's interested - as soon as I'm finished.  (Still on 56K, I'm afraid, so there's no way I'd be able to upload something like this.)

Muzza Feb 22, 2006

OK then, just make sure you tell all of us when you're finished!

I'm resurrecting this bad boy for Angie... the Ape Escape 3 OST has been released!

Probably one of my most favorite OSTs that doesn't belong to an RPG.

But who's selling it? I'm not finding it on otaku, Play Geisha, CD J, not even Amazon JP. A general search engine search (Google, Yahoo, etc.) isn't providing any relevant hits, either, other than the VGMdb page you found.

I've searched by "APE ESCAPE 3 ORIGINAPE SOUNDTRACKS," "Saru Get You 3 Origisaru Soundtrack," and even just by its catalogue number.
