GoldenEye is also suspect
I don't know if Nintendo could offer GoldenEye without sublicensing from EA, but I guess that depends on how EA's contract is defined. At any rate, it would be nice to see S&P finally made available over here in some form. I'd love to check it out. Here's hoping that it's really in the cards and not just filler to make the list longer on the concept test.

I really doubt EA owns the rights to the game OR the name; I think Rareware or Nintendo owns the former and MGM/UA the latter.

Obviously they don't own the game...
>I really doubt EA owns the rights to the game OR the name; I think Rareware or Nintendo owns the former and MGM/UA the latter.EA has the rights to all things Bond in the game universe. The company even released a different game with the GoldenEye name in 2004. I'm not sure if Nintendo could republish a Bond game without EA's consent unless there's a clause in EA's contract that allows works previous to its deal to be redistributed or if online distribution of software is not covered.

Oh wow, I didn't know...
I mean, James Bond is a HUGE name, I'm surprised that MGM/UA would sign it all over to just one company in the gaming industry, y'know?By Eiolon (Jan 17, 2006)
Nintendo published GoldenEye so it retains rights to the code of the game (even though Rare developed it). But since EA now has rights to the James Bond franchise, Nintendo would not be able to re-release the original GoldenEye game since their contract with MGM has expired.
That doesn't mean Nintendo can't work something out with EA to have the original game re-released though.

Right, but still...
I'm surprised that the film companies signed the rights over to just one company, no matter how successful it is. I mean, perhaps they would've liked to have, I don't know, RESEARCHED the vg industry?By XLord007 (Jan 19, 2006)
Well, the research would support EA
EA publishes licensed games almost exclusively, and it is the the largest and most successful third party software company in the world. So, EA would certainly be the logical choice. That said, I'm sure it was EA that initiated the deal, and it probably paid quite a chunk of cash to get Bond for as long as it did. Let's also remember that when Nintendo got the Bond license in the early 1990s, it came pretty cheap since the film franchise was flagging and on its longest break in its history (the six year break from 1989 to 1995).By csK (Jan 17, 2006)
Uniracers!?
If there's any shred of truth to this list at all, then all I can say is: Aw yea baby!!Maybe this game will finally earn the respect it deserves, a full decade (plus some) after its release!

Virtual Console?
In any event, in the N64 section, I noticed a profound lack of Jet Force Gemini. Where's the goddamn love?By Datschge (Jan 17, 2006)

Perhaps it's with Rare/Microsoft instead with Nintendo? Same with the Banjo games obviously.

Christ . . .
>Perhaps it's with Rare/Microsoft instead with Nintendo? Same with the Banjo games obviously.I'd forgotten all about Microsoft's little tirade with Rare. That would explain it, then. V_V

Dammit...
Where's Super Punch-Out? I don't want to have to buy some crappy EA GC boxing game to be able to play it on a Rev.Also, no Mario Paint? Titanic bummer...
And Yoshi! I preferred that one to Yoshi's Cookie.

Big reminder here

>And Yoshi! I preferred that one to Yoshi's Cookie.
Please remember that the list was from a non-public CONCEPT TEST of the virtual console interface. I would imagine the game list is highly tentative (though I will admit that S&P's inclusion on such a test is quite unusal).
