What November releases do you plan to buy?

By Angela (Oct 31, 2005)

I'm definitely looking forward to Guitar Hero this week. Perhaps it'll fill the void that the non-existent home releases of Guitar Freaks has left me. Besides which, Hero's guitar looks WAY cooler:

http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/257934.asp

Because I believe in second chances, Castlevania Curse of Darkness is a go. I'm dubious, but hopeful.

Dragon Quest 8, perhaps.... assuming I have those 60+ hours to spare. RPGs have gotten low priority for me as of late, but then Wild Arms: Alter Code F is finally [supposedly] coming, as is Magna Carta.

Gettin' my Tecmo lovin' on with Trapt and Fatal Frame 3: The Tormented.

Soul Calibur III OST; unless something extraordinary comes along in the next two months, this easily wins my Soundtrack of The Year award. I've already listened to the Bradygames CD five times straight since getting it last Friday.

I love the fact that they're releasing the Frasier DVDs on such a steady basis now. Season 7 comes out this month, just two months after the last one.

Episode III on DVD comes out this week too, doesn't it? I'm there just to hear Palpatine's cackling laugh in 5.1 surround sound. Oh yes, and War of The Worlds, which I somehow missed in the theaters this year.

The DS keeps rockin' on; Mario And Luigi: Partners In Time, VJ: Double Trouble, Mario Kart DS, and Sonic Rush.

By SonicPanda (Oct 31, 2005)

More DVDs than games.

DuckTales and Chip 'n Dale...mmm, sweet nostalgia. Although, inexplicably, neither Volume 1 contains the pilot serials (BOO!), I'll be content if the episodes are restored to their full lengths.

Looney Tunes Volume 3 and March of the Penguins as well, with Chronological Donald 2 in December. Weeeee!

By Msia (Nov 01, 2005)

Yes its true, WA AC F and DQ 8 on the same day

Alter Code F was only delayed 364 days from its original release date. 11/15 is going to be a great day for RPG fans.

Rhapsooodiiiaaahhh...

I've got way too much I want to buy this month.

*Suikoden Tactics/Rhapsodia = YESSS SUIKODEN YESSSS! Now I just need Suiko V...hurry up February!
*Magna Carta = supposed load times aside, I'm looking forward to this, especially as a long time fan of Softmax and thier delicious music. Koreans are great.
*Wild Arms ACF = looks good, loved the original, and I'm playing through WA2 right now.
*Dragon Quest 8 = I am HIGHLY doubtful it's worthy of all the praise it's getting. Methinks Squeenie fans are out in full force, barking in the streets about how wonderous it is, despite having never touched a DQ game before it. But I'll get it anyway at some point, partially because I want them to release the DQV remake in the States before I die. And the new symphonic suite is WONDERFUL.
*Legend of Heroes IV = gotta support my Falcom FINALLY coming to America, no matter the cost :D
*Catching up on slightly older releases, like Atelier Iris
*tons of other crap I'm forgetting

By Conn (Nov 01, 2005)

Speaking of which:

http://www.rpgamer.com/games/suiko/rhapsodia/rhapsodiaimp.html

Finally, someone who actually knows that the crap they are talking about. I reccommend you folks pick this one up, it's going to be a good one, unless you are like PSM or EGM and are obsessed with Final Fantasy Tactics, because obviously nothing will ever live up to the glory of super omake Cloud. The storyline is super bizarre and emotional, if you like that sort of thing, and I proudly own the OST, which is easily the best Suikoden OST since I and II's. I'm telling you, just GET, before it becomes $200 on eBay someday. :D

By Conn (Nov 01, 2005)

I saw that too. We'll find out tomorrow, I'd think

Tuesday is usually shipping day, so if they are really shipping this week, they could be in stores tomorrow. But I'm not getting my hopes up just yet. I can wait another week if I need to....

PLZ PLZ COME EARLY LLOLOL!111

AH! Sorry...ahem...like I said...one week.

By Jodo Kast (Nov 01, 2005)

Good month.

VGM:

Soul Calibur III Original Soundtrack
Game Sound Legend Series "Konamic Game Freaks"
Ray'z PREMIUM BOX -BEYOND-
Castlevania ~Lament of Innocence~ Original Soundtrack
Akumajo Dracula: Yami no Juin Original Soundtrack

DVD:

FF VII: Advent Children

By XLord007 (Nov 01, 2005)

Wouldn't count on Advent Children...

Amazon says 1/10/06 and Gamestop says 4/3/06.

By Jodo Kast (Nov 01, 2005)

Bastards....

>Amazon says 1/10/06 and Gamestop says 4/3/06.

They originally stated a late November release. I could always buy the JP version, but JP DVD's are about 3-5 times the cost of domestic releases (and may not have subtitles).

By SonicPanda (Nov 01, 2005)

The really wierd bit...

...is that if its recent Canadian showing is any indication, it's going to be subtitled anyway. I initially assumed the hold-up was a dub project with extra programming time spent matching lips to the English script. But now it just looks like they're holding it back to make sure people buy Radiata, SaGa, and DQ8 instead.

By Eclisis (Nov 01, 2005)

Nope.

There're Japanese subtitles, but unfortunately no English ones.

>They originally stated a late November release. I could always buy the JP version, but JP DVD's are about 3-5 times the cost of domestic releases (and may not have subtitles).

By Qui-Gon Joe (Nov 01, 2005)

"The DS keeps rockin' on"

It sure does. I'll definitely be getting Mario Kart DS and Mario&Luigi 2. Also Legend of Heroes IV (still shocked that I'm soon actually going to own a good PSP game... presumably). I'm considering Alter Code F, but will be avoiding Dragon Quest VIII like the plague (unless I play the demo and it's not the aging borefest of a gameplay experience wrapped in pretty graphics that I expect it to be).

By Idolores (Nov 01, 2005)

Don't like doing these monthly lists, but . . .

Only because sometimes release dates fluctuate, and will become inaccurate.

Instead, I like doing lists of items that I plan to buy in the next couple of months, or even into next year.

With that said, a lot of the items from other people's lists make their way onto mine. Good examples are the new Fatal Frame, or Wild Arms ACF.

Suikoden Tactics is also high on my list, as is Suikoden V. I'm really liking Rogue Galaxy, but I will wait for more news on it before I make a decision.

I would've put Shadow of the Colossus on this list, had I read it earlier, but I just picked up said game (haven't popped it in, yet, though).

Like so many people, I also list DQ8 as being a highly anticipated title for me, one of the reasons being that I love Akira Toriyama's art style, and hope his characters live up to the ones from his previous works. I think I'll buy DQ7 and give it a go to make sure that the DQ games are the kind of RPG I like first. I haven't played one since the original NES DQ, and maybe they have changed a few things around since those hazy days.

I know the game has been around forever, but I am also making it my November goal to find a great condition copy of Suikoden 2 for a decent price. Barring a financial catastrophe, I should be able to find it somewhere (like maybe at the other end of a rainbow, sitting in a leperachaun's pot of gold, or somewhere equally elusive).

By Conn (Nov 01, 2005)

DQ

Some people love DQ7, others HATE it. I wouldn't judge the whole series from it either way.

Play DQ5 [aka Heaven's Bride] patched in English instead. :D Everything is better. The music. The characters. The plot. And I love the hero's design. DQ6 is a winner in my book, too.

BTW, I didn't find a copy of Suiko 2 for you while I was out this weekend. Sorry, lad. But someone around here just sold their copy to a GameStop. Of course, someone bought it before I could even find out about it. :/

Oh, bargain bin owned by a stupid company that doesn't know the value of old games! Show yourself to me!

By Idolores (Nov 01, 2005)

It is alright . . .

I didn't expect Suikoden II to be there when you got there. Maybe I'll just barter with Karen at Traders for her copy.

Thanks, anyways, Conn. We've both been trying to get a hold of that game so hard that I think we're exhausted.

By Darkheim (Nov 01, 2005)

Agreeing with Conn...

Playing DQ7 before DQ8 to see what it's like is the gaming equivalent to playing Donkey Kong Jr. to see what Mario Kart is like. DQ8 streamlines alot of things you'd normally use a menu for in DQ7 (opening doors, checking cupboards). There is also the graphics comparison (for which I think my former example is actually pretty accurate).

By Shoe (Nov 01, 2005)

SamSho 5 and WonderShowzen Season 1

hmm, is Samurai Shodown 5 on the PS2, I assume?

By Shoe (Nov 01, 2005)

Re: hmm, is Samurai Shodown 5 on the PS2, I assume

I think the US version is only coming to Xbox because SNK-P didn't want to include SS4 for some strange reason.

As long as they keep the stereo sound intact, I won't have much to bitch about (no Slodown like in the cart version, English Story Mode, arranged soundtrack, etc.)

By Shoe (Nov 01, 2005)

*Edit* SS5 delayed again..

Oh, and Beavis & Butthead Volume One

By Darkheim (Nov 05, 2005)

Speaking of B&B...

The mushroom trip scene from "Do America" is still one of my favorite things in the whole world.

By Shoe (Nov 05, 2005)

>The mushroom trip scene from "Do America" is still one of my favorite things in the whole world.

Rob Zombie co-directed that scene, right?

By Zane (Nov 01, 2005)

Nothing, really.

I'll rent Fatal Frame III, but that's about it.

As far as SC3 OST goes, I just don't get it. I've heard the music from the demo (at least 4 or 5 songs) and some rips on-line, and I think it's awful.

By XLord007 (Nov 01, 2005)

My latest order to NCS

Some of this is released in early December, but it's all part of one order...

Pop'n Music 7 - re-release
Pop'n Music 8 - re-release
Pop'n Music 10 - re-release
Beatmania IIDX 10th Style LE - OH YEAH!!!!

And, this might be the month I pick up a full-size PnM controller. Maybe.

By Amber (Nov 01, 2005)

*wallet whimpers*

So far, the only stuff I've confirmed this paycheck is:

- DragonQuest VIII
- DQVIII Ltd Ed. guide (i collect the damn things)
- DQVIII Slime controller :D
- Magna Carta

The rest will come in time... this is the worst time of the year to be in a new place, having to pay 3x the amount of rent I'm used to paying, plus bills I've never paid before, haha. Oh well, I'm trying to snap up the stuff I feel I'll get the most use out of, and other stuff I feel has the potential to become scarce quickly.

Still gotta get:
- Shining Force Neo
- Lunar: Dragon Song (somehow this is not on the top of my priority list)
... ...hm, wow, I guess that's it.
The next 30 days though... ugh. I'm gonna fall so far behind. :\

By XLord007 (Nov 02, 2005)

List

Guitar Hero *possibly*
Gunstar Super Heroes *possibly*
Mario Kart DS
Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time
Dragon Quest 8 *possibly*

Soul Calibur III OST
Atelier Iris: Deceitful Wings Arrange Album

By Ryu (Nov 02, 2005)

Not much

Mario & Luigi 2 DS

Star Wars Episode III DVD (which I got yesterday)
Family Guy Volume 2 (season 4) DVD
Seinfeld Volume 4 (season 5) DVD
Seinfeld Volume 5 (season 6) DVD

I ruled out Mario Kart DS because I doubt I'll ever play it. Getting the wireless USB adaptor might would change that though, especially if it has a good battle mode.

By XLord007 (Nov 03, 2005)

The "half of season 4" thing is a bit lame though.

By XLord007 (Nov 03, 2005)

Fox knows a cash cow when they see it

>The "half of season 4" thing is a bit lame though.

I think Fox has realized that Family Guy DVDs are huge cash cows, so they figure they can get away with charging the same price for half a season as they used to for a full season. And they're probably right.

By Ryu (Nov 03, 2005)

Odd that they didn't know it years ago...

...when they cancelled the show.

Hm, I'm curious when they will release the American Dad DVDs.

By XLord007 (Nov 03, 2005)

Proof that ratings aren't everything.

I'm gonna boycott it if they decide to charge full admission for half a season..

By Ryu (Nov 16, 2005)

Hm, about that Mario Kart...

>I ruled out Mario Kart DS because I doubt I'll ever play it. Getting the wireless USB adaptor might would change that though, especially if it has a good battle mode.

I got a free copy last week. Now I gotta look into one of those wireless USB adaptor things.

Civilization IV, but I plan on convincing my parents to get it for my birthday or Christmas. :D
