I'm just returned from a lovely beach vacation. My favorite thing to do is walk along the coastline for hours at a time, loaded with good music. If that music happens to be the soundtrack that perfects the atmosphere of a sunkissed beach getaway, so much the better. A lot of what I packed in my MP3 player didn't quite fit that bill, so I'd love to get some suggestions for next year. (Tunes need not be directly related to a beach in the games they come from)

To get the ball rolling, I find Out Run's soundtrack--the original arcade synth and the SST band covers--to be indispensable.

Mario games immediately come to mind... basically most of Mario Sunshine or "Grass Beach" from Galaxy.  Also, "The Wind Sings of a Journey" from Legend of Mana?

Anemone Beach - Crusader of Centy
Akrillic Beach - Plok
Follow Wind - Super Adventure Island
Jump In! Hawaii - Jumping Flash 2

There's a few good ones.

Stay away from SO3's "Pert Girl on the Sandy Beach"

How about "Barefoot in the Park" and "Hedgehog's Dilemma", both from Evangelion?

"Let's Have a Fun Summer Vacation" from Pastel Kitchen is pretty awesome if you ask me. Lots of woodwind and steel drums big_smile. Gives it a nice tropical vibe. The OST is kind of hard to find (given its genre), but if you liked to try it, just send me an email or something.

'Summers' - EarthBound ost

'Costa del Sol' - Final Fantasy 7 ost

'Nice Weather, Ain't It!' - LIVE-A-LIVE ost

'Summer Adventure' (track 4 on Rue disc) - DewPrism ost

'Dee-Jay Stage' - Super Street Fighter II ost (SNES version is probably best)

Ohhhh heeeyyy~! Don't be like that!...unless you're being sarcastic. Then I can dig that.

I thought the Star Ocean 3 OST has some great relaxing music for Summertime, besides all the moody, gothic, and progressive rock stuff.

Other recommendations include:

Chrono Cross OST OST
Genso Suikoden IV OST
Phantom Brave OST
Romancing SaGa ~ Minstrel Song OST
Umihara Kawase OST

Basically, think of games that had significant coastal, nautical themes, and then find their soundtracks.

...

Otherwise, look into non-game music, for ehtnic/folk music from the tropical and equatorial regions of the world, stuff like flamenco and salsa, mostly from Latin, South American, and Spanish countries.

Eric Hansen is an excellent flamenco guitarist; guy has out about 3 albums: (1) Colores del Alma, (2) Without Words, and (3) Bolero Romantico.

Antonio Carlos Jobim is excellent if you like Latin jazz; check out his albums: (1) Composer of Desafinido, (2) Tide, and (3) Wave.
