Yep, breakfast cereal. I realise this is a big ask so if it's out of anyones way, don't worry about it. I'm looking to get a couple of boxes of US cereal as a christmas present. I have found a couple of websites that deliver here in Ireland but they don't have the ones I'm looking for which are - Strawberry Honey Bunches of Oats and the Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

So the ideal would be to have someone buy them and chuck them in the post to me. I could pay for it all through Paypal. If that sounds like something someone would be able to help me out with, drop me an email at thejdogg@gmail.com. If not, don't worry about it. It's a bit of a crazy idea anyway.

Kenology Dec 2, 2006

I'll do it for you.  It wouldn't be a problem.  Really.

Carl Dec 3, 2006

Both of those are pretty tasty, and can be found about anywhere in the US, so it wouldn't be a very tough request...    Nice that Ken volunteered to make your breakfast  smile

Jay Dec 3, 2006

Indeed. Thanks for the offer, Ken. I've sent you a mail!

It's weird but cinnamon just never took off over here. Almost any cinnamon cereal died a very quick death. That's why I always associate cinnamon with my trips to the US and I absolutely adore cinnamon. As my sister used to live in Boston and I'll be with her for Christmas, I'm hoping these will make a nice gift. A taste of her former home.

Here's a tangent for you, Jay.  Do you guys have the Monster cereals (Count Chocula, Boo Berry, Franken Berry) over there?

Jay Dec 3, 2006

Nope, none of those. To be honest, most of our cereals are fairly dull compared with US cereals. Kellogg's pretty much dominate the market although there are a few Quaker cereals too. Oh, and Weetabix.

They stopped making fuckin' Count Chocula and I'm mad as hell.  That was my favorite cereal!!!  *Heart... broken*

*calms down*

Anyways...  Jay, I just e-mailed you back.

With a name like that, is anyone else glad we don't have that brand over here?

Is Boo Berry still around?  I remember even when I was a kid it was hard to find sometimes.

Even as far as kids' breakfast cereals go as being unhealthy, I have a feeling that particular series was one of the worst.  Might have something to do with them disappearing.

I'm looking forward just to having Honey Nut Cheerios and Frosted Mini Wheats when I go back for Christmas.  The cereal selection in Japan suuucks.

It's news to me that they stopped making Count Chocula.  General Mills still lists it, Boo Berry, and Franken Berry on their site:  http://www.generalmills.com/corporate/b … ?catID=50#  Last I walked by the cereal aisle at Wal-Mart recently I saw boxes upon boxes of them sitting there tempting me to purchase.

You can't have a discussion about unhealthy kids' cereals without this classic exchange:

Bart: Aw, damn FDA. Why can't it all be marshmallows?
Lisa: Ew. Bart, don't put the non-marshmallow pieces back in the box. They go in the trash!

I totally used to do that as a kid. I also remember loving Frosted Flakes and Fruit Loops, but I had the opportunity to try them again recently and found them to be too sweet and absolutely vile, respectively. Nowadays, I get by on cereal/granola bars.

Quoted for truth!  tongue

...except replace Frosted Mini Wheats with Cinnamon Toast Crunch for me.

"I'm kookoo for Coco Puffs!"

Not really.......
I'm more of an Apple Jacks & Reese's PB Puffs girl.

We do have Frosted Flakes here.

Anybody remember "Quaker Ohs" Cereal?
Circular loops with stuff in the middle.
Has that been discontinued too?

What japan lacks in cereal variety, they make up for with different types of chocolate brands like Kit-Kat and Pocky; and Pringles
Banana flavored, Strawberry, Caramel, Tiramisu-flavored chocolate.
And Chicago Pizza, Consomme Pringles,etc.

I had thought that Boo Berry had been eliminated long ago...until I went to college in Maine.  Every grocery store I went to had Boo Berry in abundance.  I believe that blueberries are Maine's chief agricultural export, so it's no wonder that the shelves are filled with the stuff.

As for Frosted Flakes, I usually cut my corn flakes with Frosted Flakes, which works out surprisingly well.  About 1/3 to 1/2 of the bowl is Frosted Flakes, the rest is corn flakes.  Stir the mixture around to blend the contents, then add milk.

Kenology Dec 4, 2006

In that case, I guess they didn't stop making it.  Rather, my local market just doesn't carry it any longer.  That's great news!  big_smile

Jodo Kast Dec 4, 2006

Cinnamon Toast Crunch was one of my favorites. I've never seen a cereal thread before, so I might as well mention some more I used to like:

Honey Smacks (same as "Honey Combs"?)
Peanut Butter Captain Crunch
Lucky Charms
CW Post (this hasn't been in St. Louis for about 12 years, but it was damn good)
Honey Nut Cheerios
Frosted Mini Wheats
Count Chockula
Boo Berries (wasn't there one based on Frankenstein as well? or was he sometimes on the Boo Berries box?)
Coco Puffs
Frosted Flakes
Honey Combs (for some reason, I'm remembering the name "Corn Puffs" as well)

Nowadays I eat Total with lecithin granules and sometimes add blueberries. It's largely tasteless, but helps me in the gym, so I guess it's worth it.

It's called Frankenberry, part of the trio of Monster cereals previously mentioned.

XLord007 Dec 5, 2006

I guess I'm the only one who finds sugary cereals disgusting.  Regular Rice Krispies are about as sweet as I can tolerate in a cereal.

Nick G Dec 5, 2006

I don't like my cereal too sweet. I've been doing the Cocoa Krispies lately. Good stuff!

I eat meat for breakfast; I've not had any cereal in a long time.  However, if I were to buy some cereal it would be from the Monster cereal line, Cap'n'Crunch Crunchberries (did they take the "Oops No Razorblades (All Crunchberries)" off the market?) or Fruity Pebbles.

eb4eva2006 Dec 5, 2006

Dora the Explorer cereal is actually the best tasting cereal I've ever had!  You should try it.

All the Monster cereals have been “back in print” for a while. The last time there was a cereal thread someone discussed their displeasure with those not being made anymore. About a week later I saw them, as Ryu mentioned, on the shelves at Walmart, and they're still selling them. My all time favorite cereal was from the early 80’s. Ralston’s Blueberry Waffeos. Now frosted mini-wheats are about all I eat because of the high fiber content.

You guys remember any of these?

Ralston’s Nintendo cereal system
Ralston’s Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong Junior – I ate these
Pac Man cereal
Nerds cereal – Tasty. Remember having two bags in each box?
E.T. Cereal, basically the same as today’s Reese’s PB Puffs
Strawberry Shortcake – Never asked mom to buy these, but it was my sis’s fav.
Kaboom – I always considered this to be the “other” Monster cereal. Not much flavor though.
Kellog’s Chocolate Frosted Flakes – TOO SWEET!
C3PO – Being a kid in the 80’s was too cool.
Kellogg's Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean – Can only imagine Angie eating this stuff.
Dino’s Pebbles
Smurf-Berry Crunch
Nestle NesQuik

Check out this link. It's like the cemetery of cereals.

Ryu Dec 8, 2006

I have missed Smurf-Berry Crunch for a very long time now.

Crash Dec 8, 2006

"Smurfberry Crunch is fun to eat
A smurfy, fruity breakfast treat..."

Don't forget about Fruit Island cereal, which had the commercial with King Ayummayumma who would sample the cereal, and proclaim, "Ayummayumma!"

Or Ms. Pac-Man cereal:  "New Ms. Pac-Man with marshmallows, and a shocking pink bow, oh!"

Or Ice Cream Cones:  "My name's Ice Cream Jones; I'm delivering your Ice Cream Cones"

I guess the commercial jingles are what stick with me the most.

"Oh here come Krispy Kritters, that good wholesome bunch.  The low-sugar cereal with lots of ka-runch.  It's indubitably (indubitably?) delicious!"
