I've only had brief experience with the thing (way back when that store called Planet Universe or whatever was around), just enough to remember that Jack Bros and Wario Land were friggin' awesome. Something that only just recently occurred to me is that I have no idea how the actual sound capabilities of the system stack up the Gameboy/Gameboy Color, and whether there was actually any games with....you know, good music.

*pokes around the internet a bit*

Man, a Virtual Boy game based on a movie based on Lovecraft? What a trip....

EDIT: So far, this selection of Galactic Pinball is the biggest selection of music I've seen for the game...

If anyone has some more Teleorohsdruizhuboxer music, I'd like to hear it.

Man, I had forgotten the VB had even existed. I never played it, and this is the first I've heard ANYTHING of its sound abilities. (So thanks for that, especially.)

But anyway, I found a site that's making a VB emulator, and according to the programming manual:

16Bit Stereo Sound Processor
- 41.7KHz with 13 bit precision
- 6 channel PCM wave generator

The website itself is here:

Why hasn't there been an emulated audio format developed for this yet?!? I bet the world would want some VSF... wink

I made an emulator rip of Red Alarm a while back, but I haven't released it because most of the tracks clip like you would NOT believe; I'm talking bleeding-from-the-ears levels in a few places. Having never played the game on a real Virtual Boy, I don't know if the true sound of the music is really that bad or if the emulator is butchering it.

It's a shame, really, because there are some good tracks in that soundtrack. Really weird crud too, but good nevertheless. I'd love to have an emulated sound format for VB games, but my guess is that no one's really tried because there only like 25 games for the system. sad
