There will be a Castlevania concert at the Stockholm Concert Hall the 19th of February 2010. A very special guest artist will attend: Michiru Yamane. She will perform on several pieces including one exclusive piece from Symphony of the Night that she will arrange by herself. The music will be performed by The Stockholm Youth Symphony Orchestra, a rock band, singers and The Grand Organ. The whole concept seems to be somewhat like the Final Fantasy VI concert that was held in Tokyo some months ago.

Tickets will be available October 30 and the cost is between 300-400 SEK.

LOL. Nah, even though its far from my favourite Castlevania score, I'd love to hear some of the pieces from Order of Ecclesia live. I'm tempted to go, but I'm also going to Russia sometime in February, so we'll see if I can catch it or not.

This is good news, but makes me wonder, why has our little nook of the world been so blessed with VGM concerts? The US and the bigger EU countries I can understand, and Japan of course goes without saying, but Sweden? Doesn't make sense. But its a positive "doesn't make sense".

what sucks is that nobody capture those concerts, and make them available on dvd, I suspect they would sell decently.

sweden always had great taste in music as far as i can tell, they always appeared like a music nation to me, so it doesn't surprise me that much.

Well, I'm not going to complain the least bit. It's significantly easier to come to Sweden than it was to go to Germany. I'm definitely in, and I have a funny feeling that there will be quite a number of us crazy Finns coming as always.

Selling DVDs would require additional licensing permissions from the game company, and their terms/restrictions and fees.   For the most part, these additional hassles and costs tend to outweigh any potential benefit, so that's why people don't do it.

I still can't believe that there is going to be a concert dedicated to CastleVania. They better do Theme of Simon on the organ. That song begs to be done.

I hope the arrangements they play are considerably better than the ones from PLAY! I wasn't very impressed by their performances whatsoever.

Maybe CV64 will get some love too....

Lots of SOTN, some Bloodlines and classic themes (Simon theme, Beginning, etc).

Is anyone else planning to go? I'm actually considering to, that music list is tempting, but I thought it'd be interesting to know how are people looking forward to it (it's an expensive trip!).

That's a fine program list, and I would love to see Sweden. I don't think I know anyone crazy enough to go with me though

The concert is coming up quite soon now. Is everyone excited? I recently interviewed the team of the event here and it seems like they've got a lot planned in terms of visuals, arrangements, and special guests. Lots of surprises planned, but seems like they won't be revealed till the evening. Although the confirmation Yamane is doing a special arrangement is a nice one.

I think it would be quite interesting to have a small STC meet-up before or after the concert if there are more of you guys showing up. A few of us Finnish more-or-less regulars willl be there, myself included. It could be fun.

So who is Kinuyo Yamashita ?  I saw the video of her message to the fans on the site...she says she is the composer for 'vampire killer', is that right?  (i.e. the original theme??)

Someone should at least capture an audience recording of this show....so that people who cannot make it to Stockholm can at least get a sample of the show...perhaps they will film it

Kinuyo Yamashita composed most of the original Castlevania. She also composed the Megaman X3 soundtrack.

By original Castlevania, you mean the NES version?  Does that include part II or III

By that, I do mean the very first Castlevania game for the NES. That was the only one she worked on.

Sooo? How was it? Quite a dream setlist, wished I was there. I saw Yamane play the Wood Carving Partita in Leipzig 3 years ago. It was amazing, but this Stockholm concert...it probably won't ever get any better than this for a SotN fan.

"Amazing" wouldn't do it justice.
Seriously though, performance overall was really good. The final setlist was an impressive and varied selection (with even songs from Belmont's Revenge (!)), having a quite varied range of styles either focused on orchestra, rock band, both combined or solos like piano, singers and organ. It was also evenly distributed and had a really good flow through the concert; p.e. I loved the ending with Dance of Illusions and the Ending fom CV4.
Michiru Yamane performed a couple of times, playing the hapsichord on Wood Carving Partita and Wandering Ghosts on the encore, and the piano on Dance of Pearls.
My favorites were the old school medley (the Beginning part is so bombastic and grand it makes me shiver), the GB piano solos (these were incredibly creative and awesome), Chandeliers (the orchestral arrangement worked extremely well) and Dracula's Castle. Though, really, the whole concert was spot on. There's a couple of videos on youtube, so go check them out to get an idea of how it was.
I really really hope they release a CD an/or DVD so people both attendants and non-attendants can relive the experiencie. It would be such a waste of so good material.

In conclusion, it was an epic night I'll hardly ever forget :_).

Liked some parts of the Ripe Seeds/Psycho Warrior segment, starting around 4:00 min mark, then gets cool again at 5:30 onward

Theme of Simon obviously benefits from the hall's organ.

(Although I'm not quite sold on the Rock & Orchestra combo being the optimal mix for this, as their arrangement seems to heavily depend on the rock side.)

Oooh, Dance of Pales is lovely as expected.

It's difficult to judge the quality of the arrangements and performances by these videos - so I won't.

It was mentioned in this interview that there wouldn't be any official recording done, due to it likely not being worth it financially.

It's also hinted that they have another (still secret) project in the works, and that whether it will become a reality or not partly depends on the outcome of this concert.

Herrkotowski, you say Kinuyo Yamashita composed the Megaman X3 soundtrack, but I have Toshihiko Horiyama, Syusaku Uchiyama, Yoshino Aoki, and Makoto Tomozawa listed for it, based on information I got from the X-X6 box set. Did they only do the Saturn/PSX remixes?

I tried to watch them, and, I have to say - they should be removed from the internet. With quality that horrible, it would be better to have nothing.

Hell, we'd have to delete 80% of the whole 'net then.

I suspect Jodo wouldn't find a fault with that.
