Kind of a random post here but I was wondering if any of you guys (or girls, heh) have facial hair?  I've been shaving my face every few days since high school trying to keep it nice and smooth.  As of a couple weeks ago, I officially got sick of it.  I trimmed it up earlier tonight and ended up with a beard of sorts.  Was thinking of maybe some mutton chops or something similar.  Nothing really thick cause I don't like the way that looks, just wanna keep it light like in this picture (yes that's me, note the Vagrant Story poster in the background wink).  I'm not too sure about the mustache but I definitely wanna keep the sideburns at least.

What do you guys think?  What do you all have?

I float back and forth between mild facial hair and for me, wildly out of control. I scared my mom with the "semi-bald" look so the regular hair is back for now. wink I haven't been able to make sideburns look convincing and so after a while, I simply stopped trying...

You look pretty good, though. Looks natural.

I don't really care about my facial hair, I'd mainly have it a certain to please someone else...I've noticed that it doesn't seem to go very far if I just let it go, a very light mustache and small scraggly lump on my chin like someone just off a goatee....neither are very pleasing to look at, so I generally keep it shaved.

Shaving sucks. Hard. I stopped using regular razors above the belt almost four months ago and now all I use for my face is a beard trimmer with no attachments so I always get that slightly scruffy look without having to shave it straight up and wait for it to grow out. It's pretty awesome and apparently chicks are totally into it, so that works out well for me all right the board. You can see it here. Wait, no you can't, that's just an awesome picture that makes me look like a still-frame from Jacob's Ladder.

I shave once every 5 days or so. I want my genetic code modified so it stops growing. Damn RNA does whatever it wants. Did it ever think to get my opinion first?

In college I had the soul patch/goatee, but after going bald at 26 I was forced to counterattack with the rest of the beard.

If I'm clean-shaven it makes me look too young (which doesn't mesh with the chrome dome) so I go for a trimmed beard to accompany my limited options.

Just a few hairs but never shaved or been near a razor in all my life. The moustahce is a bit more notable but I can live with that.  tongue

When you guys first used a razor did you think of getting a deep cut and bleeding to death? For some reason thats how I imagine me if I ever try.

Apparently there's less body hair the further we go down generations because of our way of living?

I've never cut myself shaving EVER, after years and years, they're pretty foolproof...  But it's a huge hassle, having to buy replacement blades and all that crap.  That's wasted money really, so not shaving and just trimming is all the better these days.

Mustache here. I used to have sideburns but they became uncomfortable. I had a full-fledged beard in senior year but I got rid of it and since then it only grows in uneven and patchy, so I shave once it gets past the stubble point. Call it the House look, except I've been thinning on top for the last 7 years.

At one point in grad school, I didn't shave for a couple days, then decided to forgo shaving for a while and see what I would look like if I grew out a full beard.  The results?  Not pretty.  To be fair, I didn't try any upkeep at all, so the beard ended up getting pretty wild towards the end.  As I learned, I have a couple bald spots on my face, where no hair would grow, and as the beard progressed, they looked more and more out of place.  The beard also made me look considerably older and heavier for some reason.

After about three months, I had had enough.  Over the course of a week, I shaved it off bit by bit.  On Monday, I had the full beard.  On Tuesday, it was sideburns and the goatee.  On Wednesday, just the goatee.  On Thursday, just a moustache (which did NOT look good on me).  By Friday, I was clean-shaven.  When I asked the females I knew at the time which look was better for me, every one of them agreed that I should keep shaving.

I shave whenever the chuffing 'ell I feel like it. Sometimes I've all the facial hair of a  homeless man who just discovered scissors, and other times, I'm as clean as a baby's arse.

This thread is full of rugged manliness and win.  Kudos, gentlemen!

Just sideburns for me, the length of which varies depending on how many slipups I make when shaving. I once grew a goatee to go as my evil twin for Halloween; I definitely prefer being aligned with goodness.

Pellasos Feb 6, 2009

i shave every 4-5 days. i feel naked without a bit of facial hair, so it doesnt bother me at all. more importantly, i think it does looks good on me.

XLord007 Feb 7, 2009

I also hate shaving, so I used to do it about 1.5 times a week, leaving me with the stubbly look with increasingly long sideburns.  Then, last year, I said screw it and just let it grow until I had the mountain man look.  That got old, so now I've pulled it down to a thin beard.  Don't know how long I'll keep it this way, but who knows.

Grassie Feb 10, 2009 (edited Feb 10, 2009)

I just shaved. Now, when I touch my skin, I can feel all kinds of stubs and longer hairs here and there. It's always like that, I never manage to do it properly.

In junior high, I used my father's machine to do my work, but I didn't to cut away my chin-neck(?) hair. After a while I had lots of hair on my chin-neck, but not mustache or real "beard". I guess I looked pretty stupid.

I really hate those razors that's made for one-time use. I always cut myself on them. It's nice to have some vodka to rub in your face then. Makes you smell nice, hinders infections and can even yield you a placebo-buzz if you're into that sort of thing.

Soto Feb 10, 2009

I use the Zane Method (beard/mustache trimmer without attachments), which is the girlfriend's preference.  My mom and grandmother can't stand facial hair though, so that always gets to be an ordeal when I visit, because I usually forget before I stop by.

I always shave twice: once going just down, and then once going up. (There's so little hair left that it doesn't physically hurt to go up at that point.) But it does make the skin sensitive so I can't shave up but every 3-4 days. If I absolutely must shave a day or two after my last, I can only shave down.

Right when I read "moustache", I imagined you looking like Tom Selleck.

I don't mean to brag, but as far as beards, I can trump you all.

This is a result of me letting my beard grow with only moderate, occasional trimming.

This is a result of trimming down to a goatee.

This is more or less how I look now.

When I had the beard, I was compared to everyone from Jesus to Charles Manson. With the goatee, I was compared to Mick Foley (the wrestler known as Mankind). Without facial hair, I get compared to John Lennon. I think I'll stick to without. I can have a full beard in just a few weeks. My hair grows considerably faster than most people. I never wanted to stop shaving. It wasn't until a co-worker noticed I was getting a bit scraggly and asked if I was growing one that I decided to break down and shoot for it. From the look of the pictures, now I regret it.
