Falcom announced in its latest investment report that the following are currently in development:

-Ys Seven
-Zwei II (Huzzah!)
-The Legend of Heroes VII
-Zwei
-Vantage Master
-Brandish
-Tracks in the Sky (The Legend of Heroes VI) the 3rd

That last one is almost certainly a PSP port, given that they've already ported the first two. I assume Zwei, VM, and Brandish are ports, too.

English I can see, but why does it make a difference whether it's on a console or PC?

Qui-Gon Joe Nov 19, 2007

...because I far prefer to play games with a controller on something that is guaranteed to have no compatibility issues and on a big screen rather than on a tiny monitor.  I know there are those who disagree with me, but I've never quite understood why Falcom makes such console-style games on PC in the first place.

I assume they do it because it's a lot cheaper without the licensing fees and QA stuff you have to do to get your game approved by one of the console manufacturers.

They're calling the next Ys, Ys 7?  Origin and Felghana must not count.

As far as developing for the PC, absolutely no complaints here.  You need to get a pc connected to an hdtv (LCD/DLP/Plasma).  I guess I am in the minority here, but it's so damn cool.  Make sure to get a bluetooth mouse and keyboard to allow for wireless control. My mouse recently went caput, and I was surprised to find a lack of bluetooth mice (Save for laptop mice) at bestbuy, fry's, and radio shack...Finally decided to order one online.

In any event, Ys Felghana and Origin looked AMAZING played on the 72'.  The Logitech wannabe PS2 controller for the PC is a great fit too.

I agree however, they do need to translate their games.

Any idea on the expected date of Ys release?  We were getting an Ys every year or so it seemed.  Perhaps they are retooling the engine.

Good news in any event.

I wish there was a Zwei translation patch sad, though a soundtrack for a second one I will really enjoy big_smile

Dais Nov 27, 2007

The idea that they are doing anything with Brandish boggles my mind. And I say that as a fan of the series.

Qui-Gon Joe Nov 27, 2007

Yeah, I've always kind of assumed that since OiF was a remake (storyline, anyway) and Origins is a prequel, there would be an Ys VII next.

Rogles Nov 29, 2007

It has always bothered me that Ys IV is out of order on the timeline. The question is, will Ys VII be after Ys VI, or will it be between two sequels?

brandonk Nov 29, 2007

Not necessarily bothered, but I thought it was even more 'odd' that two distinct versions of Ys IV were produced.  There were enough similarities that it seems like someone at Falcom defined a set of basics (music, characters, towns, etc), and left the rest up to the respective developers.  As far as the timeline, yeah, they can pretty much do as they please.  I wonder if anyone originally offiliated with the initial Ys, is still with Falcom.  I also wonder this about Castlevania.

Carl Nov 29, 2007

I'm replaying Origins again for the fun of it, so yeah sign me up for Ys 7 anytime.  smile

According to the Wiki entry for Ys, that appears to be what happened.  The official canon Ys IV was the Super Famicom version (Mask of the Sun).  Hudson Soft obtained rights for the PC-Engine version but were given creative liberties by Falcom to alter certain elements.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but as I recall, one of the Ys IVs takes place before III and the other one takes place after.  ...I get so confused by all that.

I've read the SFC Ys games were pretty lacklustre... is that true? (IV and V, I've already confirmed III is pretty bad!)  I don't want to replay Napishtim yet and finding Eternal Story has been pretty tough!, so I'd like some other Ys games to think about trying.

That's a big TV.  Do you live in a football stadium?  ;-)

Well the SFC version is missing the cut scenes, and legendary PC Engine CD tracks, however the game wasn't bad.  I recently played it while I was in the hospital.  It was translated too so all the better.  When I got home, I had about 25 % of the game left, so I played the soundtrack from the PC Engine, while playing the emulated game on my PSP.

Felghana and Origin are excellent...I think I will play through them again on my vacation.  Did they translate the PC version of Napishtam? I love the holidays!

LOL...I love this thing...I am typing this message on it right now.  Kind of difficult to do extensive reading at a distance.  Great for movies, games and HD broadcasts though, most definitely.

They're coming down in price everyday.  I didn't have a car payment at the time so it worked out pretty nicely and I paid it off in about 8 months.  Sometimes you gotta 'Be Good To yourself' (Journey)

cheers
