Probably an XBLA port of The After, yeah. I'd have thought for sure it would've been DSi Ware, myself, but they had to port it to something else for anyone outside Japan to have a shot. I imagine a website for Before Crisis will be along shortly.

It's been reported that this was posted by a user for the "user created games," and is not a real release from Square Enix.  Some guy messing with people.  The page for "FFIV: The After" and the XBLA user created games site are both gone now, so I think it was a fake.

I've never even heard of this before. I do somewhat share Ashley's point of view. It seems to me that Squeenix can't produce any good new games. They just keep rehashing the old. This isn't terrible though, since those who never got a chance to play some of the classics can now enjoy them. Still, it's a pity they've lost their magic with new games (just my personal opinion of course

I think this seems like a very smart strategy from Square Enix. Pump out low-budget games with high-profile names, gather some cash, and spend them on (hopefully) great titles like Final Fantasy XIII! I won't play this game. But I won't play Final Fantasy IV again neither, nor any of the other old Final Fantasy titles, simply because I think they cannot compare to the newer ones. It seems like I am the only one who thinks that games seem to get better and better with time, and that it is only my ability to enjoy them that is fading.

I also think it is wonderful that they do such fan-service. A lot of people will be very happy to play this. Yeah, it's milking but... I'm a socialist and all, and I still don't blame people for enjoying products only made for profit... Which should be just about any product anyway. Haha.

have you, by any chance, considered the fact that a considerable majority of Square Enix is hard at work on the two FFXIII games, and many of their titles, original or ports, are outsourced?

No word yet on the episode/pricing structure, but this is certainly exciting news.  Now that the game has become more than just a passing interest, I finally checked out the official Japanese website.  Courtesy of NeoGAF's SilverLunar, here's a single post depicting all of the main characters -- and courtesy of NeoGAF's GoldandBlue, even more artwork. 

Personally, I'm still getting over how much older and more mature Porom looks now. :)

For the mobile phone game, Junya Nakano arranged the music and Hirosato Noda implemented it. Same team as FFIV DS and probably same arrangements. So I guess we can expect it all to be reused again here except maybe without significant downgrading from OST to console.

Needless to say I will be buying this.  Whether or not I will have time to play it for than the obligatory hour is another matter.

So have people downloaded FINAL FANTASY IV: THE AFTER YEARS? And is it true the download is only one chapter, so you end up having to pay like $50 for the game in the end? I'll have to pass, I don't want to pay $50 for a SNES game

It's a nostalgia thing too. I hold fond memories of FFIV, and I actually thought the ending was perfect. It was bittersweet, which is how it should be. I'm sure if the sequel had been released on the SNES I would have picked it up at once, but at this moment in time it just doesn't appeal to me. So, thoughts from those who have played?

Thing$ I do not like about current gen downloadable game$: $eeing thing$ like "Purcha$e Add-On Content" on the menu $creen. At thi$ point it'$ apparent that making money i$ more important than making a great Wiiware game. I think of Rockman 9 - great game, lot$ of fun, but you had the whole game for the price of the title. The extra (admittedly negligible) $tuff wa$ what co$t extra, not the next level of the game! Thumb$ down on principle (and mu$ic) alone.

Appears to be some new music as well, but considering the synth of the DS OST...

I've paid for FFIV time and time again and will continue to do so no matter what form it comes in because I love it that much.

They really added new music? Man, that's great. They probably reused the final boss theme from FFIV for the final boss, though (not that they're related in any other area than both are very stupid).

That said, I don't like that song. It has overtures of, I dunno, sinister beauty....but it never goes anywhere with them.

That song is the only new piece I've heard in the game so far. It's used whenever the sinister woman appears. And it doesn't fit very well with the rest of the music.

Huh, I really enjoyed the track.  Kinda dark, but pretty as well.  I guess it is quite different from the rest of the score though.  Anyone know what version of the soundtrack they're using?  Doesn't sound like the DS version or the SNES version.
