There was a theme song for Final Fantasy VIII (presumably a prologue song) that was listed in 1998 or late 1997 on RPGamer.com as  a MIDI as the prologue for the game.  It had a synthetic/vocal quality to it and was NOT featured in the actual Final Fantasy VIII game or the demo.  Does anyone know if this MIDI still exists anywhere or if this unreleased track is even acknowledged?  I am pretty sure it was composed by Uematsu; it would be sad if this brilliant melody was lost and forgotten.

I remember that -- it was called the "sky theme", wasn't it? It was a big fake, and not composed by him at all.

Dude, you're thinking of this.

eb4, this is the kind of question I hate to ask, but could you perhaps provide any extra details? For one thing, what do you mean by "prologue"? Were they saying this song was what played during the game's introduction, or were they referring to the actual recurring theme known as the Prologue? I have a vague idea that I know what you're talking about, but if you could perhaps try and recall the exact way in which this song was presented a bit more cearly, I might be able to help you.

EDIT: Kyle don't be so fast sad

Haha oh wow. I remember downloading this years ago and desperately wishing it was the real battle theme. Thanks for the memories!

Anyone know who created it, or where it originated from? I'd almost want one without sound effects...

slightly OT but i will never understand why that moody song in the Briefing Room of RCPD HQ in the ResEvil2 demo was cut from the final ver.

Speaking of unreleased FF8 stuff... The Music that was in the original FF8 Trailer I always liked better than a majority of the OST music...

Also, does anyone know the REAL reason that "The Landing" was changed from the demo to the final game. Many people assume it was because it sounded like 'the rock theme' but I personally doubt that is the reason it was changed.

I highly doubt it too. I imagine it was simply a matter of a late choice by either Uematsu or someone else thinking something else would work better. I'm sure it happens all the time, we just don't know it.

If you look at Chrono Trigger pre-release, you can see a few original compositions as well. Even though they released a couple of unused tracks on the OST, there were still several missing. I wish they released more unused tracks on the OSTs (In fact, I don't understand why they don't). There's actually probably quite a bit of awesome compositions that have ended up scrapped from games that we will never know about unfortunately...

You wouldn't BELIEVE some of the stuff that hides in the locked vaults of big companies like Konami and Capcom.
Fuckin' scary as hell.
(Think of a video game equivalent for 'Song of The South' and you begin to understand..)'
