Soundtrack Central The best classic game music and more

PeteV May 23, 2007

NIS America will be selling the OST to Grim Grimoire separately on their online store for $15.  The soundtrack was only available in Japan by preordering the game.  The tracklist is the same as the Japanese version and contains music by Hitoshi Sakimoto, Masaharu Iwata, and other Basiscape employees (the Japanese soundtrack did not contain a composer breakdown).

Also of note: A domestic version of the Atelier Iris Grand Fantasm OST! Never thought I'd see that.

And the markdown on that Marl Kingdom CD is LOL...Too bad it's a drama album.

Good to see at least one US game publisher "gets it" when it comes to VGM.

jb May 23, 2007

Preordered wahoo!

Ramza May 25, 2007

Yeah that's pretty rad about us getting a full Grim Grimoire OST.

GFX -- about the Grand Fantasm OST. It's practically the same as the JP release, except it's missing the opening vocal, as they couldn't get rights to it. Some people DESPISE the song, while others love it, so it's give and take. It's just a shame IMO that the album is not "complete" in the US.

NIS America is so frickin good to gamers.

The question is if there are enough sales to keep this merchandise subsidiary going.

What is the Grim Grimoire OST like?  Has anyone played this game?

Bernhardt May 26, 2007 (edited May 26, 2007)

It's quite an accomplishment that they're able to distribute the game music in the U.S., it's a pity about missing out on "Schwarzweiß" though; I've always enjoyed the Atelier vocal themes.

I have, of course, already pre-ordered this.

Now, if they'd go back and make releases for their previous games (Disgaea, La Pucelle, Phantom Brave, Phantom Kingdom), that'd be excellent, but then again, I don't suppose there was anymore demand for the music than there was for the games. Pity, that.

Think we'll get an official soundtrack release for Odin Sphere?

Hitoshi Sakimoto!

It's misspelled as Hiroshi Sakimoto on the back of the box. sad

Ramza May 27, 2007

I doubt Odin Sphere will get a US soundtrack release. Heck, still waiting for a JP soundtrack release...

Just for the record,  beside Sakimoto, five composers work on Odin Sphere too (while Sakimoto and Iwata definitely did a large portion of the soundtrack). Also, Grim Grimoire isn't a Sakimoto's solo work either.

Thanks for the info!

Um, what the f---.

I ordered this cd, and it's not even cdda, it's just a burned data cd with 18 .aif tracks.

What is this f---ing bullshit, I want my money back.

There is a thread at gamefaqs also about this.  I think people complained about that.  You should complain also, JB.  At least they would know not to do that again.

I sent them an email reminding them that they have the "Compact Disc Digital Audio" logo on their packaging and that this disc is certainly not it.  Should be interesting to see what their response is (if any).

Ramza Jul 3, 2007

NIS America released a data disc for Grim Grimoire? Is it NIS America's doing or some other entity at the offshoot "RosenQueen" store?

I have good contacts with NIS America and am very angry about this. I can speak with them ASAP if needed.

The CD very much has the NIS logo and the "compact Disc Digital Audio" logo stamped at the bottom, with small print saying licensing belongs to NIS America.  I can scan the CD if necessary

Razakin Jul 3, 2007

Taken from some users post in Gamefags, who himself took this from NIS America's forums:

we recently discovered that the OST that went out to everyone was burned as a data cd, not an audio. which means it wont play in any regular cd players and can only be ripped/played by programs like itunes (or maybe JUST itunes).

so right now we're trying to figure out a fix, but we don't want to sell what's basically a faulty product like that. unfortunately, this came to light right as we were getting ready to slave away at anime expo (where we'll stay until this coming tuesday) so the solution is a bit slow in coming.

so please be patient and bear with us while we try and figure out whose head to put under the guillotine.

Nice f--- up actually, I'm glad that I didn't order this, althought the shipping costs to Europe were a bit too much anyways.

Two screenshots, I don't have time to scan I'm on my way to work now.  At first I thought it was just another typical cccd with some sort of embedded player until I loaded it up in EAC.  I will email RosenQueen / NIS when I'm a little less likely to send death threats :'(.  I don't know if a ContentsDB.xml file means it was burned in iTunes or if it was created to be intended to be loaded in iTunes as some sort of playlist, but either way it's retarded.  It will not load on a standalone cd player.

I already went about Y!J and ordered the special edition JP version via Jerold.

Very nice, thank you.  At least they admit to it, could someone post a link to the gamefaqs thread and the NIS boards so I can keep track of where to look for refund information? <3

I guess whoever did the master cd didn't know the difference between a data cd and an audio cd within iTunes cd burning feature or something. Quite hilarious actually.

Yeah, the people at NISA/Rosenqueen seem to be pretty incompotent, between actually producing the stuff, and actually sending the orders out and making sure they get where they need to go, and promptly, at that.

Had this same problem, I'm going to have to talk to someone, myself.

XLord007 Jul 8, 2007

I received an email from them saying that, towards the end of July, they would send a new CD out to those who received a defective one.  Let's see if they keep their word.

Stephen Jul 9, 2007

I might order this after you all get your replacements.  Is this as bad as the Capcom vs. SNK DS card game snafu?

Did you have to bother them for the message, of was it an automatic message? I haven't received anything in my e-mail myself...

Well, I have to admit that thus far I've been very pleased with NIS/Rosenqueen. Granted, the GG OST is a slight mess-up, which may not even be entirely their fault, but I don't see what the big deal is since they are going to send everyone a brand new audio CD. So in actuality, you get two CDs for the price of one! And, the data CD does play on windows media player etc. Frankly, they're one of the few companies that really seem to deliver quality bonuses, so we should be grateful!

cheers,

I haven't received anything, either.

I think I received an email because I had emailed them on the day I received the CD asking what was up.  I don't think they automatically sent the email out to everyone, though the email does say that they will automatically send the replacement CD to everyone.

I think I got an e-mail from NISA/Rosenqueen a few days ago. At least, it had "Grim Grimoire" in its subject, but it got caught in my spam filter, which is a first, and it didn't catch my eye until after I hit "Delete".

If anyone else received something about this, could you post a summary?

guizhang Jul 29, 2007

i just received the replacement today. i hadn't emailed them before about the soundtrack, so i guess they sent replacements to everyone that had ordered. they also sent a note with it apologizing for the mistake.

Stephen Jul 29, 2007

It looks like they removed the soundtrack from the rosenqueen.com.  What gives?

jb Jul 31, 2007

I got my replacement in the mail yesterday, and I don't recall getting an email from NIS America about it (or it hit the gmail spam filter and I deleted it).

Had an apology letter and all that jazz, but a little too late since I got my LE PS2 version from Jerold a week ago.  It's good to know in the future that they actually do care, I guess.

Bernhardt Aug 3, 2007

Got my own replacement copy about three days ago, no prior notification, either.

All's well that ends well, I suppose.

Is the Rosenqueen US version the same as the LE Japanese version?
