I just Rapidshared a .rar of the redbook audio from the PSX game Gundam Battle Assault for another forum and thought I'd post the link here too.  The game itself was a fairly uninspired 2D fighter but I thought the music was tremendous, catchy and varied -- and it's all original compositions, with no adaptations from the anime series. Unfortunately I don't know who the composer is... I'll have to go and beat the game again sometime and look at the credits.

Anyway, I encourage everyone to at least give it a listen!

I'll never forget that awful announcer.

"Gandam Battle Assailt!"

And as long as someone tells me how to freakin' open .rar files on a damn Mac, then I'll check it out.

I use UnRarX. It's free, and it works damn well:  http://unrarx.sourceforge.net/

You rock dude...these are awesome!  How can every track be 202 minutes long?

I wonder who was the arranger / composer, on these?  Anyone we've heard of before?

thanks!

Without knowing the actual credits my guess would be it's Natsume developed and composed/arranged by Hiroyuki Iwatsuki.

I thought so too; I downloaded a rip of the soundtrack from somewhere else becuase I think Iwatsuki rocks.

However, both Gundam: Battle Assault and its prequel, Gundam: The Battle Master, were developed by Bandai and scored by some guy named Nobuo Ito. No clue who this guy is, since these are the only two VGM credits I've found for him, although he might be the same as this Nobuo Ito who's written the music to some anime.

Incidentally, about two-thirds of the music from Battle Assault was recycled from The Battle Master: tracks 2-12 and 14. The more you know.

In most instances Bandai is just the publisher while the developer is not mentioned by the name but can only be found out by checking upon key development staff. And the great Japanese Composer list (which I should have checked right away) says both Nobuo Ito (no Kanji, gah) and Iwatsuki were involved in both The Battle Master and The Battle Master 2, figures...

Snap, nice. It says that Iwatsuki was only the sound engineer for Battle Assault, though. Dunno if he did the same with The Battle Master or actually did any composing there, but I can tell you that nothing in the game sounds like anything I've ever heard from him before. It all sounds pretty much like the stuff from the sequel.

And yeah, Bandai's a big delegator, but everything I've found about the games says they developed them too. Although when my sources are such places as Wikipedia and GameFAQs, there's cause to be a little skeptical. big_smile
