I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season! I can think of no better story about the holidays than this:

WOW! Talk about someone I would not touch with a 10-foot pole...
Clearly, some people care about nothing but material goods.

She's a brat. If I was the guy I'd consider this a bullet dodged.

Avatar, I've been wondering about this for a long time.  What's your motivation for posting all of these news stories about the many failings of humankind?  I'm sorry if this sounds hostile, but I sense an element of smugness in your continually highlighting the wretchedness of the human condition.

Probably just for discussion.

I agree with Idolores for the most part. I think it's just for discussion... however, I can see how people could view some of avatar's wording as being suspect. I don't think that's the case with this thread like some previous ones; however, I think a big part of this is the fact you just don't get to hear a person's inflection with the written word on the internet.

Avatar is probably just writing in the off-cuff style that he speaks in person. I have a hunch if he started telling me about on of these stories face-to-face I probably wouldn't give anything like this a second though and the feeling some get from the above wouldn't exist.

I actually think the former would probably facilitate the latter.

First off, I've been playing Dark Souls II Scholar of the First Sin big_smile
So, "wretchedness of the human condition" is appropriate! Secondly, why not? I think it's important to look at "failures" if you ever want to succeed. Also, to be fair, I wouldn't call the link I posted "wretched" or "failure" -it's more amusing than anything else. Also, I think it serves as a reminder that material goods while "nice" are not what really matter. At any rate, I think discussing things other than video games/music is fun and enjoyable.

Also, here's another amusing link that's less... eh, wretched? Enjoy watching 79 year old gamer Shirley play Skyrim!

I got a lot of gift cards: Amazon, Panera and Jamba Juice. I didn't get what I wanted, but I can get what I want.

About that guy that failed to impress his girlfriend, I know a guy that actually married a woman with the "princess syndrome". She told him that the ring better cost at least 4 months of his salary and he bought a ring that cost that amount.
