Check this out...

Now, there's lots we chock it up to: Maybe it was pure luck, or cuz it's vacation time, or a bad economy, but lately, I've noticed alot of things are ending sheaper on Ebay and other auction sites, or, not bid on at all...

Mario Zelda Band Live cd ended last month for just 5.00,

Smash Brothers soundtrack, starting at 3 bucks, no bids.

Mario kart 64 ost, ended at 9.00...

There's more; games, consoles, with no bids or ending cheaper. Seller's are tugging the line and we fish won't bite.

I suppose I should glad as a buyer; Instead of pricy middleman fees and bidding wars, I can just wait til an item I want comes up and expect a good deal

But the seller in me is worried, how does such a small market make any profit with less people interested?

The VGM community is very tight; people only share with those who are fotunate to come across forums like these, but we (and we can admit it) are often inclined not to spread the word in fear of rising costs when the demand gets higher.

What's worse is all the fakes and bootlegs floating around. Not to mention the sellers who hike prices insanely

First of all, I'd trust that seller about as far as I could throw him.  Whoever bid on that lot is taking a real crapshoot... I bought a Kartia strategy guide from him once that was listed as "near mint" and it looked "fair" at best.  Yellowed pages, bent cover, tattered spine, the works.  He doesn't mention any details at all regarding the items in those pictures, and makes absolutely no claims at all other than "you get what you see (in these very blurry pictures) here."  I wouldn't have bid on it.

Anyway, as long as you list your auctions in the correct categories, use certain keywords in the titles, and don't be afraid to spam the crap out of us to let us know they exist, they should end for reasonable prices. :)

Maybe that was the case for this seller, but whether the stuff half broken or not, that's still a steal for over 200 items...

My concern, is that so many items are ending so low, that Ebay is not worth looking to to sell stuff anymore.

I feel ya Alley. If you ask me, people's inclination to download has become uncontrollable the last year or two, and it accounts for the substantial lost of sales.

However, I think item lots on eBay have always ended at cheap prices. As little sense as that appears, most lots go for unexplainably low prices. One example was this 25 or so VGM lot that ended at $75, all authentic CD's with one of them being a Secret of Evermore, and that was nearly two years ago. Also, I don't think bootlegs are affecting the market too much, because a huge majority of people are aware of them and circumvent them more so now than years ago.

A lot of CD's/games/etc. go for cheap prices, but if you constantly stay up-to-date to find the demand in certain items, then you've found your location for profit. I know since I did it for two straight years, but the time and effort is a huge sacrifice to take, so my motivation to refresh on what's in/not in demand has declined gradually.

I remember selling a lot like that, but I think it ended for a bit over $200.  I still regret selling it.  It had that first pressing FF 1987-1994 set with the hardcover book and stuff. -_-

Oh well, I still have my Sakuraba collection.  I'm never selling that. :v

Edit: I just found this... I know it's not completely relevant to the topic of the thread, but I had to post it.

So....what are you trying to say? ^_~

As for the market, it's as fluctuating as ever. I wouldn't have expected my Yoshi's Island OST to have sold for what it ended at and I would've expected the SMRPG to sell for more than what it did. Then there were my attempts to sell the Ten Plants CDs, for which a couple people got a damn good steal. (By the way, who purchased the first Ten Plants from me? I found the obi, if you'd like it. Still in near-mint condition.)

There are lots of items I've sold over the years that I would have thought would have sold for more but didn't, and others that I wouldn't have dreamt many people would be interested in that shot up like crazy. Maybe it is a matter of knowing where to go to get the best price, but like someone else said earlier in the thread, it's very time-consuming. Thank god I've managed to whittle most of my eBay stuff down and am getting more discerning in my buying habits. And for the rest, I'm selling 'em in one big lot. ^_~
