So Im a big SNK fan and I know that this album is out now to coincide with the release of the game. Does anyone know what is on this album and if its worth getting? I own both the AST and OST of the original '98 but I'm wondering if the music on these discs are rearranged for the PS2 release or just upgraded or something since they are now using the TaitoType2x board.

some songs did sound different in a few gameplay videos. thats all i can say.

Really curious what becomes of this as well. The KOF 98 OST is one of my favorite OST's of all-time. I did see a video that had Geese's theme in it (which wasn't in the original). Of course, I haven't ordered it yet until I know what exactly is on this and I know SNK can be hit or miss recently with how they release soundtracks (see KOF Maximum Impact Regulation, which was basically music from both Maximum Impact games with *gasp* an additional loop!)

FuryofFrog May 18, 2008

Yeah MI soundtracks were sorda iffy. Also another thing thats sort of a bummer in SNK soundtracks today is that they don't do separate OST/AST releases anymore since 2003 and the synth from 2003 is only upgraded synth sold separate and rebranded AST, then for XI they just included the upgraded synth disc with the game, the only thing is there is barely a difference since the Atomiswave is pretty good at handling music. Sigh, well heres to hoping new sounds for '98 UM.

Just curious anyone still into fighting games and looking forward to the King of Fighters XII and Street Fighter 4?

Pellasos May 18, 2008

yes, of course. KOF XII is one of my most anticipated games of all time. its like a dream came true to see the visual update, and what a stunning effort!

i dont know what to think about SF 4 yet, but im keeping my expectations low.

I'm very much into fighting games...The problem is no one else is. >_<

I'm looking to pick up the new Fatal Fury Collection as soon as I get a breather. Real Bout Special is one of my favorite fighters and I can't wait to play RB2 for the first time. Also looking forward to the World Heroes Collection...I remember playing that in the old bowling alleys and it was seriously fun!

Oh well, I did get to play Guilty Gear with some people last weekend. Game is still seriously fun and balanced.

Edit: Yeah, this "sound upgrade" arranging is seriously lame. In the case of both 2003 and XI, I think I prefer the original music in both cases. It has more of a bite to it. Still love the 94-97 years for SNK soundtracks...They really had a lot of classic stuff around there (KOF 98 had a lot of killer remakes from those eras)

Strangely enough it seems like SF and KoF with these new games are heading in about the same route. In interviews both producers basically said they want to get rid of all the things that complicated gameplay and return to form with the original titles in the series along with next gen graphical updates. I mean so far with SF4 they have managed to get the whole Turbo cast, not even touching any of the alpha, 3 and new challengers and a lot of the revolutions in those games have been taken out. In KoF XII they are getting rid of a bunch of stuff that 11 added including tag play, not to mention everyone seems to be in original costumes. It maybe premature to say but its almost like they are rebooting these series from scratch to try to rebring in their audience. (If they don't have one good Sax song in XII I am going to go apeshit on SNK)

As far as Real Bout goes I hope you snag one soon. Only $15 bucks and well worth it, I've been playing a lot of that lately smashing people with Franco, Bob, and Billy of course. The only real annoying thing is that there is no versus mode so you have to stick with your character you won with to fight your challenger and I don't always wanna use the same guy every time. I haven't played much of World Heroes, but I might just pick it up because I liked Fuma so much in Neo Geo Battle Coliseum.

Guilty Gear AC is a fun time but I am pissed off at Arc System Works. I would have waited a year to get Accent Core Plus which adds Kliff and Justice with a new story mode thats allegedly the true sequel to XX. Sigh

I noticed a lot of DS games pull this enhanced sound bullcrap too instead of releasing a live instrument proper album sad

This year does look like to be the year of fighting games though.

Street Fighter 4 I am confident is coming out this year, maybe even a simultaneous PS3/360 release

KoFXII wont be ready until Q3-Q4 next year I think

Q4 this year we get

(maybe) Street Fighter 2 HD

KoF Orochi Collection which adds 94 & 98 I am told for the US release
Samurai Showdown Collection which has 1-6 along with 5 Special
and KoF 98 UM

so we fighting gamers have a good amount of stuff to look forward to. Btw if you guys live in the suburbs of Philly every Saturday my friends and I go to a comic shop in Doylestown called Cyborg 1 to play fighting games.

I've never really been able to get into the gameplay of the SNK fighters, but graphically, KOFXII looks pretty sweet.  I'm looking forward to SF4 much more though.

Yeah, I know what you mean, 2003 and NBC I thought sounded great arranged. But XI was definitely the first game I decided to play with the Original Soundtrack enabled.

As for 98, yeah it definitely has one of the best Soundtracks around. I just found this post on Gamefaqs, doesn't sound good:

Just got the soundtrack.

Good news: The new character select themes and overall system music sounds awesome. Also, the EX characters, and some new team combinations have special themes.

Bad news: It's the NEOGEO versions of the team/character themes, and most of them are shortened from their original counterparts.

Here are the new characters' themes.

Intrusion Character Select: Remix of the KOF 95 select screen

Geese: Geese ni Katakori
Krauser: Dies Irae
Mr. BIG: Dust Man
Orochi Iori & Orochi Leona: Control Crisis
Orochi: The Origin of Mind
Goenitz: Trash Head
Eiji Kisaragi: Shinobi no Michi, his theme from AOF2
Kasumi Todo: Get'n Up, '96 women's team theme
Psycho Soldier Team: Psycho Soldier Remix '96 (the old '98 theme is now reserved for the China stage only)
EX Fatal Fury Team: Club-M Aozora ni Flute from KOF 95
EX Art of Fighting Team: Original version of the AOF theme.
Ryo, Robert, Takuma: Ryuuko and Ken, AOF team's theme from KOF 94
Ryo Takuma, Yuri: Kamikirimushi, AOF team theme from KOF 96
Kyo '94, Benibaru, Daimon: Funky Esaka from KOF 95
EX '94 Women's Team: Diet, Yuri's AOF2 theme
EX Mai: Mai Mai KYUUN, her theme from Real Bout Fatal Fury 2
EX King: Tsuchi o Hau bass, '95 Women's theme
EX Yamazaki: C62 Version 1, from Fatal Fury 3
EX Mary: Kiss Me, her theme from Fatal Fury 3 (has some more bass in it than the original version)
EX Billy: N.D.R, his Real Bout 1 theme.
EX Geese: Geese ni Shouyu, from Fatal Fury Special (it's the Real Bout 2 version(
Heidern, Ralf, Clark: Desert Requiem, '95 Ikari Warriors theme
