... as far as having the most posts on these forums.  Yep, I finally took a gander at the "Users" listing, and got a little statistics-happy.  Here's a breakdown of the current top ten:

1) XLord -- 513 posts
2) McCall -- 443 posts
3) Zane -- 425 posts
4) Angela -- 416 posts
5) avatar! -- 325 posts
6) Qui-Gon Joe -- 310 posts
7) Schala -- 284 posts
8) Goldfish X -- 278 posts
9) Wanderer -- 264 posts
10) Ryu -- 250 posts

oddigy Sep 16, 2006

Hm, I'm 16th.
I guess this just means I need to post more. :)
Or... maybe it just means that 15 people most more than I do, and I really shouldn't worry about it.  It would be interesting to see the posts broken down by forum posted in, as well.  For example, some people post almost exclusively in the Marketplace.

Ryu Sep 16, 2006

I'm surprised I posted that much.

Wanderer Sep 16, 2006

Awesome! I'm on the top 10! ... although it's hard to believe. I don't feel like I post *that* much...

Datschge Sep 16, 2006

I'm 17th, I post too much! >_<

Angela Sep 16, 2006

It is surprising, though, to see so many registered users who have made little to no posts at all.  Granted, a handful of them turned out to be joke accounts, there do appear to be quite a few legit members -- some who were old-timers from STC of the past.  Lurkers, perhaps?

On that count, though, I wonder if Adam would be able to wipe out those joke accounts from the listing?

Qui-Gon Joe Sep 16, 2006

Eep.  Looks like I need to start posting more and working less at my job if I ever want to move up in the ranks?  wink

Crash Sep 16, 2006

Woo-hoo!  I have fewer posts than someone who is banned!

Zaggart Sep 16, 2006

I'm ranked 1st place for the most idiotic posts, and no one will ever take that away from me, not even those yearly spammers. *does Cartman dance*

GoldfishX Sep 16, 2006

Remember, it's not how many post you have, but how you use them that matters. I'm about right where I should be (and I owe my fairly high ranking to Suikoden V earlier this year. tongue) I wonder if marketplace posts count...I know on some forums, they don't.

The only ones that surprise me up there are Xlord and Schala...I know they're regulars, but it doesn't feel like they've posted that much to be as highly ranked as they are. Guess that's what happens when you make 'em count.

Schala Sep 16, 2006

Hehe, I'm a bit surprised at Xlord, too. Then again, I can't really tell who's posting since I usually access these forums on an OS/browser in which the member names are cut off.

Besides, I really haven't posted that much, although it is kind of surprising to look at total post counts (can't believe I actually made more than 200 posts here, heh). There's just such a huge difference between 1st place and everyone else, that I could've posted just a few times and still be counted among the top posters.

TerraEpon Sep 16, 2006

Huh, 19th...and I didn't think I posted too much since I tend to almost never start anything...

Well, I'm satisifed with my post count.  :-)

Same here. 12th, at the moment. I sort of wonder at the people who've registered and not posted anything. Why sign up if you've nothing to say? It's not like downloads are members-only or anything

You know, over all this is the best forum I've ever found smile  Diverse interests from working out, to playing games...well alright, mostly game and movie related, but hey I'm glad people appreciate this stuff!  BTW, I just noticed Angela has transformed from a cat to  Dr. Stiles' love interest!  Perhaps Angela has her heart set on marrying a doctor... big_smile
or am I being silly!

cheers,

Well, for example there's no "New posts" or "Today's posts" links (or any other info on what's been written after your last visit, for that matter) if you're not logged in, so it's harder to see what's new or not, i.e., what to read. Also, form e-mail is available only for the registered users.

TerraEpon Sep 17, 2006

Yeah. I've signed up for quite a number of forums I've never posted in -- though some were because you need to sign up to just read them, there are times it's either for the search, or the new posts, or whatever.

Hm, a doctor..... but, THAT goofball?? *_*  No, my reason was not so provincial.  The avatar switch was strictly a status thing; myself being a nurse in reality, and her name being the same as my real nickname.  It all gelled together real nice, I think. ;)

Zane Sep 17, 2006

Man, third place? That's... interesting. I didn't think I posted more than Angie, but I guess I was wrong. Where's my trophy?

Adoru Sep 17, 2006

Only 12 posts from me, and for the record, I've been coming here regularly (every 2-3 days or so) since Fall of 1999. So I guess there are a lot of people like me who mostly just read stuff and seldom reply  It's also the only message board I visit except for various ones at gamefaqs.com, depending on the game I'm playing.

McCall Sep 17, 2006 (edited Sep 10, 2012)

.

Carl Sep 17, 2006 (edited Sep 17, 2006)

I've never been a fan of "Post Counting" at forums, as it encourages people to spew lots of pointless stuff, resulting in just cluttering up the real/useful info, which of course is why people come here in the first place.

Wanderer Sep 17, 2006

Blame Suikoden V. And Suikoden in general. tongue

Flexar Sep 18, 2006 (edited Sep 18, 2006)

Well, it's not a competition, so I really don't see a point in getting all orgasmic about the number of one's own postings. Besides, I think that certain peole are mostly just blabbing around, so the number - in terms of what I consider decent postings - is much higher than it should be.

I don't really see anyone getting competitive or "orgasmic" about their number of postings here; that just isn't our style.  T'was a simple statistical observation, and little more.

Kim K Sep 18, 2006

I don't think post counting itself encourages people to write more.. casually. Instead, I'd blame the habit of making rank titles (why even have such things?) and/or the actual number of posts ever-visible on some forums - if you see them all the time, you might begin to think they matter. Statistics are always nice to have, naturally, but it's better to keep them "hidden".

"No play makes Jack a dull boy."

What do you mean by 'babbling', though? Pointless posting or normal but rather light way of communication? Or are both no-nos?

I'd say the somewhat relaxed atmosphere here is nice. smile

Qui-Gon Joe Sep 18, 2006

OMG OMG TOTALLY INFLATING MY POST COUNT

Errm... yeah.  Anyway, I don't really think anyone here actually is *competing* for highest number of posts.  Getting to see the stats is kinda interesting, though.  It actually kind of feels weird to see myself that high on the list, considering it feels like I so infrequently have anything terribly interesting to say compared to the rest of the colorful crew around here... it still feels like it was just yesterday that I was making my first few posts feeling weird as the newbie (and yes, I feel old when I realize that was something like eight years ago  >_<).

Also... "orgasmic?"  This is SO not that kind of board.  tongue

Dunno. I just wanted to increase the number of my posts.

jb Sep 18, 2006

Every day since '98 I think?!  I just don't have much to say since I have barely touched console games since like '96.

Zane Sep 18, 2006

I think it's bizarre how many people have registered and posted once or twice, or not at all. Shady, considering that you don't need to register to actually see the forums. Maybe it was just to get in touch with a marketplace seller... but it's still a little weird.

I think people squat usernames on forums on the off-chance they will use it.

This thread may end up being one of the longest ones around...and everybody's post count gets boosted. heh

I totally agree with the above.  I think my number is high just because I like to post short comments and replies to various people rather than trying to edit multiple replies into one post which is a time consuming pain.  I know I will generally not read any post that is a wall of text (look at Cocoebiz's Sakimoto forums if you want to go to sleep), so I try to keep my thoughts as brief as possible.

Difference is, they are very interesting posts with valuable information.
