An absolutely massive and candid interview with Uematsu himself.  I think it mostly speaks for itself, though I have to agree 100% with Uematsu when he says "I really don't think Final Fantasy should have been made after Sakaguchi-san left the company."  I've been thinking that ever since 2001 myself as well.  Enjoy!

We see stuff like this all the time in Hollywood, it all comes down to respect of where a given IP has been vs the all mighty dollar. I have to admit even though I'm not a big fan of Mr. Reeves I thought reviving the Superman fanchise was a poor idea born out of the idea to whore any comic franchise on the silver screen. There are other examples, and sometimes it is done correctly and tastfully, but usually everything kneels before money.

I just read this, and it really underscores the topic of ownership of the music.  Now that he has left Square, he cannot use his old works without permission from Square.

I wish we could hear some of this stuff...

"But it was kind of a natural movement because there were a lot of tracks that didn't make it into the game or weren't produced on the CD format, so if you look at the original soundtrack and then the piano arrangement and then the orchestral arrangement, bits and pieces that were not used would end up in those tracks anyway."
