Wow do I ever hate that Solar Man music.
Really?
I've only heard the 8 stage themes so far, but it's my number 1 favorite by far.
Have to say the soundtrack so far feels quite lacklustre.
Not nearly as good as 9.

I agree with the_miker's assessment, it's one that takes time to grow on you, but that doesn't mean it's bad. If the soundtrack as a whole is disjointed and uneven, it's probably due to the sheer number of different hands at work here. I'd probably place it fifth overall in the Classic series (of 11), just below MM6 but above MM3 (the castle stage themes in 10 add a lot to the overall quality, while castle stage themes were the weakest part of MM3's music). And my own ranking of the first eight themes, best to worst:
Nitroman
Commandoman
Solarman
Sheepman
Blademan
Strikeman
Chillman
Pumpman
The first two are pitch-perfect MM music, the next two are successful experiments, the two after that have some very good phrases but aren't quite there, and the last two, while compositionally solid, don't fit the MM style very well (Chillman actually sounds a bit like something from Rare in places). I'm very interested in seeing how these are arranged this time around. I've been revisiting the MM9 Arrange album recently and it's better than most people gave it credit for back then.
I can easily concur with Miker and SonicPanda that this OST gets better with more listens. While I thought some tracks were boring at first, basically all of them have grown on me and I don't think there's a miss on the whole thing. Every track is at least above average.
I'll be waiting for the CD to hit before I listen to it outside of the game, but for now I'm content with going to Time Attack mode to listen to Solar Man, Blade Man, Nitro Man, and Wily stages 3 and 5 for ten minutes at a time before Mega Man teleports out.
castle stage themes were the weakest part of MM3's music.
I think we are going to have to agree to STRONGLY disagree on that one.
I personally think MM3 has some of the best castle stage themes in the entire series, and that it stands lonely at the top, next to 4 and 7 in that ALL castle themes are actually really good.

Yeah, I was kind of shocked when I read this as well. Don't know which ranks lowest for me, but 5's Wily Stage theme is a contender.
I'm not quite up to ranking the stage music from best to worst yet. I will say that Nitro Man, Solar Man, Chill Man, and Strike Man are in my top four though.
Regarding my comments on MM3's Wily themes, I want to stress that they aren't bad, just weaker than the pieces for the stages before them, and lacking in the energy and menace most of the best castle themes have. The only castle pieces in the series I can't stand are Mr. X from MM6 and MM&B's terrible contributions. MM3's Wily themes are OK, just not...Wily enough.
Wow...it's been 3 years...3 YEARS since I've been here...! Glad to see there are still some people I recognize along with some new faces (and that my password still works ).
That being said, I do look forward to the Mega/Rockman 10 soundtrack as well. Is it currently available for preorder yet?
Alright, I've been putting more in time into the game, and I have to admit you lot were right, the soundtrack DOES need some time to grow on you.
Totally love it now
Might as well rank the 8 Stage themes in terms of preference:
Solar Man - Someone needs to make a Rock arrangement of this, PRONTO.
Commando Man
Sheep Man
Chill Man - I find this one rather soothing. It relaxes me. Which is just as well, cause the stage itself ENRAGES me to no end!
Pump Man - Love the warbly effect in the beginning, but the rest is kinda dull.
Nitro Man
Strike Man - Too cheerleader-y
Blade Man - Just meh.
Also, maybe this is just me, but this game reminds me of the latter half of the old NES games.
If MM9 was made as an ode to MM2 then MM10 feels like an homage to MM5 to me.
Some of the stages, graphics and music really remind me of MM5, although I can't really put my finger on why.

Welcome back! Both Amazon and CDJapan have the OST up for preorder.
.... and I'm really digging that warble effect that makes up the opening of Pump Man.
Chillman is okay, but Blade, Sheep and Pump were just plain boring to me.
Pump Man - Love the warbly effect in the beginning, but the rest is kinda dull.
I'm likely going to be in the minority here, but I've gone from digging only the intro to Pump Man to just digging it outright. Smooth, mellow, totally delicious...... a sewers-based level has never has sounded this sexy.
So, anyone else willing to make some stabs at who did what, composer-wise? Just making educated guesses on stage themes for now.
Blademan - I'm guessing this one's by Shusaku Uchiyama. It has a lot in common with his MM8 work.
Solarman - Yasuaki Fujita? I hear a lot of Shadowman in here.
Sheepman - Wouldn't be surprised if this was Akari Groves. Not only is :39-1:07 very much her melodic style, but she did work on the Battle Network series, and I can see Capcom being sly about that.
Chillman - Ippo Yamada, maybe. Parts make it sound like a sister piece to the Glacier Le Cactank theme from Zero 3.
Commandoman - Yuko Takehara. No doubt in my mind.
Nitroman - Ryo Kawakami, on the grounds that it is awesome and he's Rockman's brightest star of late.
Strikeman - I want to say Yu Shimoda. The busier parts remind me of Concreteman.
Pumpman - Maybe Mari Yamaguchi. The last part of the melody before the loop is very reminescent of Crystalman's.
Wily Stage 1 - Miniami Matsumae. Because this is where the first lady of MM music should be.
Wily Stage 2 - Hiroki Isogai. His Groundman arrangement on the Chiptuned album has the same rhythmic hook and he puts a lot of energy in his pieces.
Wily Stage 3 - Minae Fujii, very focused on rhythms and has MM4's unique melancholy sound.
Wily Stage 4 - Umm, no clue.
Wily Stage 5 - I'm going to say Makoto Tomozawa, it could pass for a Legends piece in 8-bit.
EDIT:
Smooth, mellow, totally delicious...... a sewers-based level has never has sounded this sexy.
Touché. What's to be said? Capcom knows their way around a sewer.
So does Konami.

Amen to that, Sister!

Short, but oh so sweet!

I definitely think this one is Ippo Yamada. The part at ~0:12 seconds (in the Youtube videos of the music, sounds very much like Tornadoman to me, which Ippo-san was responsible for. Of course, I could be wrong, but I swear I hear it.

There's two remixes currently on youtube, actually, Solar Eclipse and Red Hot Flare. The one who did the latter has also done mixes for Strikeman, Sheepman, and Pumpman, the last of which I think is a huge improvement on the original.

Now that you mention it, I can hear it too. Good catch. I just hope we don't have to wait for the Image album before we get a proper breakdown.
God, Blade Man is really awesome. And Chill Man is kind of cool in its own way.

Awesome!
Thanks!

I rescind my statement. Was NOT expecting this:
http://www.themmnetwork.com/2010/03/17/ … ek-at-ost/
Ippo Yamada said that each stage theme for the robot masters was composed by someone who did work on the old games.
1 – Blade Man
2 – Pump Man
3 – Commando Man
4 – Chill Man
5 – Sheep Man
6 – Strike Man
7 – Nitro Man
8 – Solar Man
The eight composers who worked on these songs are as follows:
A – Manami Matsumae (Mega Man, 2)
B – Yasuaki Fujita (Mega Man 3, 4)
C – Minae Fujii (Mega Man 4)
D – Mari Yamaguchi (Mega Man 5)
E – Yuko Takehara (Mega Man 6, 7)
F – Makoto Tomozawa (Mega Man 7)
G – Shusaku Uchiyama (Mega Man 8 )
H – Akari Kaida (Mega Man & Bass)
Not in that order, obviously, but do we have any guesses (updated now) for the composers? It'll be revealed on March 22nd, supposedly.
A lot of your guesses Sonic would still be valid.
Here's the official breakdown, copied from the VGMdb page:
09. KING OF BLADES (BLADE MAN STAGE)
Music by Akari Kaida
10. POLLUTED PUMP (PUMP MAN STAGE)
Music by Yuko Takehara
11. DESERT COMMANDO (COMMANDO MAN STAGE)
Music by Minae Ojalin Fujii
12. ABSOLUTE CHILL (CHILL MAN STAGE)
Music by Shusaku Uchiyama
13. CYBERSHEEP'S DREAM (SHEEP MAN STAGE)
Music by Mari Yamaguchi
14. FIREBALL STRIKE (STRIKE MAN STAGE)
Music by Makoto Tomozawa
15. NITRO RIDER (NITRO MAN STAGE)
Music by Manami Matsumae
16. SOLAR INFERNO (SOLAR MAN STAGE)
Music by Yasuaki Bunbun Fujita
-----------
Awesome! My favorite tracks were done by my favorite composers of the group.. Uchiyama, Matsumae, Bunbun, and Tomozawa! What are the odds?
1 out of 8. Way to make me look bad, Capcom.
I hope the rest of the tracks get broken down eventually.
From best to worst, here is my final (pretty sure) ranking of the stage themes:
Chill Man
Solar Man
Strike Man
Nitro Man
Sheep Man
Commando Man
Pump Man
Blade Man
Chill and Solar are definitely on top (omg hot and cold). Blade and Pump are definitely on the bottom. It's just those middle four that could get shuffled around, but I doubt it unless my ears are currently deceiving me. Oh and as for the Wily stages, Wily 2 all the freaking way.

I'm guessing the OST will hold the answer.
It'll be released tomorrow, and I have it on preorder (I NEED that Inti bonus CD!) so all will be revealed soon
After one listen, I'd say the 8 boss stage themes are probably the weakest link on the soundtrack, except for the awesome Solar Man stage. Which is kinda odd for a Rockman ost.
Man, I don't want to spread negativity or dis fans of this soundtrack, but I have to say that the MM10 OST is - by a very large margin - my least favourite soundtrack in the classic Mega Man series. Just about the only tracks I can stomach are Nitro Man's and Solar Man's stage themes, and a couple of the Dr. Wily stage themes. The rest just leave me cold (and even the few I do like are merely passable, hardly stand-out material). This isn't even on the same planet as the MM9 OST or the six classic NES scores.
Seriously, Blade Man's stage theme is by far the worst I've heard in the classic MM series.
