Wow has this really not come up here already.  Even with a Kickstarter thread?  I'll let the project home page speak for itself...

Mighty No. 9 is an all-new Japanese side-scrolling action game that takes the best aspects of the 8- and 16-bit era classics you know and love, and transforms them with modern tech, fresh mechanics, and fan input into something fresh and amazing!

Every aspect of development—art, level design, music, programming, etc.—is being handled by veteran Japanese game creators with extensive experience in the genre, and with Mega Man in particular, all the way up to and including the project’s leader, Keiji Inafune himself!

And for the music...

Mega Man 2 composer Takashi Tateishi is officially on board for Mighty No. 9!

Between him and Mega Man 1 composer Matsumae (who did our main theme already) and Inti Creates’ action-music veteran Yamada (who made all of this possible!), can you just imagine how AMAZING the Mighty No. 9 soundtrack is going to be?!
(And don't forget, at the $40 tier and up everyone gets a digital version of the full game soundtrack!)

Also note that the $3,800,000 pledge goal (they're at $3,500,000 now) includes an "optional retro-style chiptune soundtrack + fx".

Any MM fans here pledge for this already?  There are seven hours left to go on the fund-raising period for any who want to get involved.

Ah as there was no mention of the title anywhere it didn't come up when I searched for it.  Consider this the less cryptic version of that post then. smile

The project reached its final goal of $4,000,000.  Now let's see how the game turns out!

I'm excited about playing it, but the one thing that keeps me from falling in love with it is the character designs. It's very...modern, kiddy anime, that's about as nice as I can describe it. There's always been something about the style of classic MM (and X, to a lesser extent) that has always appealed to me visually and this doesn't come anywhere near getting me to like the looks of it.

Happy its happening and I'll definitely be getting it, but not enthusiastic enough to help "make it happen".

As a Mega Man fan I have to ask... can't we just let this style of game play go away? I'm sorry but I'm not excited for this thing at all because I think sometimes certain things need to die. Capcom and Inafune beat the ever living hell out of this formula.

I just don't get Keiji Inafune. He gets interviewed and spouts off about how Japanese game developers are in a rut and need to evolve to survive. Then he goes and makes a game that, dare I say it, is deeply ingrained in what he claims is the problem. Yeah, you could say he is just giving the players what they want but at the same time it's hard to take someone engaging in double speak seriously.

So for those who don't know, the beta has been released, and it contains one stage and boss fight. There's still lots of bugs, but the core gameplay is there and I'm pleased to announce that it's fun. The key mechanic is the dash/absorb ability where you weaken an enemy with shots and then when they change color, you dash into them to absorb and eliminate them. The faster you do it, the higher the absorption rate, so expect lots of competitions to come from this element. Outside of that new mechanic, the rest of the game feels just like a top notch Mega Man game. I think the fans will be very happy with this one.

I'm so jazzed for this. Pissed that I missed my chance at pledging $60 and getting a nice box set.

"Mighty No. 9 has been delayed three times since then, but now the developer claims it will finally launch on June 21st. "Now that the dust has settled, we will be delivering Mighty No. 9 to everyone next month," Inafune says." "
