I found this tidbit to be of particular interest:
Not to be left out of the conversation, when another EB Games manager was asked if the store warranty was “worth the price”, he mentioned that the Nintendo Wii, with hundreds of units sold at their location has had ZERO come back as defective. We can hear Nintendo executives patting themselves on the back right now, no wait that’s just thunder.
So, if we're going to take the <1% failure rate of the PS3 as fact because an EB manager said so, then obviously the Wii has a 0% failure rate. The Wii strap, on the other hand...
Why dead pixels occur is not any excuse to have them.
Maybe, but the point is that, like Nintendo, Sony are offering to replace systems with dead pixels for free, so it's not really an issue. The square button thing, however, was pretty ridiculous. Of course, they would later admit to that problem as well, but Kutaragi's initial response was hilarious: "How dare you question my perfect design?! It's not a fault, it's a feature!" See, the red rings of death and flying Wii-motes are features!
