So, yeah, if you've liked the Tales of Tempest pack I've whipped out, you're gonna love this:

ftp://ftp.modland.com/temp/NDS/

Not really my FTP, so the packs may disappear if bandwidth-raped.

Contains music packs for the first 250 NDS roms (minus region dupes, stuff that doesn't use standard Nintendo driver (Rayman DS, Ridge Racer DS) and streams with horrible quality (Ouendan)). Both streamed (strm2wav converted) and sequenced (sseq2mid for MIDI files, VGMTrans for soundbanks) files should be there. Everything's optimized for XMPlay player with it's superb MIDI plugin (http://un4seen.com/stuff/xmplay.exe for the player, http://un4seen.com/stuff/xmp-midi.dll for the plugin, http://un4seen.com/xmplay.html#plugins for the archive plugins, so you can just pop the rar/7z files into the player itself and have a go).

I'm contantly ripping new stuff, so you can check once in a while if new stuff has been added, I'll keep you posted anyway. Also, some of the earlier stuff may be a bit unoptimized (SM64 for instance) - once I'm up to current releases, I'll go back to them and try to fix at least the most glaring flaws.

SF2? I'm in Heaven!

So, do these tracks sound almost identical to the actual NDS? (I don't own an NDS,so I cannot compare)

Looking forward to Xenosaga DS and Children of Mana - I hope those work smile

Thanks for the work. Awesome stuff.

The ones I have tried have sounded fairly accurate, with the exception of Phoenix Wright, which does not sound right at all.

Would it be possible to convert also SNES, N64, PSX and PS2 games into such packs (midi+.sf2)? Because as a music maker and sample user I'm extremely interested in the soundbanks of certain games.

Not yet, but it's not completely out of the question for the future. ;)

Nice work Knurek. smile

I noticed errors on Nanostray tunes, some samples played too fast (wrong octave?), especialy noticable on big looping beat samples (for example in "0080.seq_space.mid").

Nanostray uses most probably Shin'en music driver (that just happens to have similar data to standard Nintendo one). I had more problems with other games using this driver - Burnout Legends for once totally refused to play). Nothing can be done with them until an VGMTrans update or a proper emulated format is devised (whichever comes first wink ).

As for sound quality - if the original music didn't use the Gameboy sound channels it should be almost spot on (there are some minor errors with sample loopings AFAIK, resulting in pops here and there). Phoenix Wright uses them extensively resulting in that stuff that happens (PROTIP: Download a normal SF2 soundfont (Chorium for one), and set it as a standard one - the MIDI  channels that were using Gameboy sounds will be replaced with instruments from the standard SF2. This helps greatly sometime.)
You can check whether the track uses Gameboy sounds by looking at XMPlay's Sample Information window (F3) - if it says there any missing samples that's your cue.

Also, the archive should have roms up to #300.

Interesting games in the next hundred or so roms:

Contact
Daikoukai Jidai IV - Rota Nova
Deep Labyrinth (Yasunori Mitsuda, fully streamed AFAIR)
Metroid Prime Hunters
Sangokushi DS
Seiken Densetsu DS - Children of Mana
Tengai Makyou II - Manjimaru
Xenosaga I & II
Ys Strategy

Awesome! Thanks for all the work! I especially liked Hanjuku Hero DS and Xenosaga 1+2.

Looking forward to the music of new DS Chocobo Game that is released on Dec 14.

Blessings,
~Andy

Google for NDSMP3 for some amusing results.
The soundtrack for the new chocobo game (output from vgmtrans) is available on Usenet. smile
this group seems to release select soundtracks of interest right around the same time the ROMs come out.  See what you can find.  I'll try to download it and see if it's worth posting.

Edit: here we go

Awesome thanks Amber!

Do you know if anyone ever ended up doing a Dice de Chocobo PSF set?  I might have to figure out how to rip them - it's been about 3 years since they started and still no one has sad    It's pretty much the same music as Chocobo Land, but much higher quality.

Thanks,
~Andy

Heck, I plan to do that too. Eventually, when I catch up with the current releases (400 more to go).

I DLed it, but saw a look at the readme file and deleted it right then.

Why?

They said it the tracks weren't timed at all, and "might end apruptly" (and I think sometimes else too but I forget)

Some people might be interested in hearing what the music sounds like.
It was recorded directly from VGMTrans.  VGMTrans doesn't loop.  It was a quick and dirty job.

It's better than nothing, but thanks for giving everyone else a disclaimer.  I'll probably remove the set in a few days anyway if it's eating up too much bandwidth.

With hte Chocobo set - does anyone know what "Irma" and "MG06" are remixes of?

Thanks,
~Andy
