I was amazed by how well Nintendo Games are playing on new Wii - controller rocks and it seems like its extremely accurate and fun to play,
Zelda Twilight Princess coming to Wii and NGC!
Yoshi's Island 2, Starfox, Diddy Kong Racing coming to DS!
everything looked really amazing, cant wait for it, Nintendo completely stole the show.
they did great job and I'm totally for Wii.

I'm a big Nintendo supporter, but I have to say that I thought the conference was underwhelming.  For me, the biggest news there was Yoshi's Island 2.

Also, I don't really like the idea of there being two different versions of Twilight Princess (the original plan of Twilight Princess as an NGC game with Wii hooks seems better) and the further delay of the game to the Wii launch date is also somewhat disappointing, though I can respect that decision so the Wii will have a killer launch title of sorts (I say "of sorts" because Nintendo is kind of cheating by making this its major launch title).

And am I the only one who doesn't think having a speaker in the controller is a big deal?  I mean, who cares?  Couldn't they have accomplished the same thing with Surround Sound?

In terms of software, Excite Truck looks pretty dumb, but Disaster: Day of Crisis looks rather cool.  Wario Ware and Wii Sports also look fun.  Suspiciously absent was Smash Bros.  This was one of the first Wii games announced along with MP3 and FFCC, but while the latter two were shown, not a word on Smash Bros. was spoken.  At least we finally got to see Super Mario Galaxy, though I have to say the MC Escher-esque gravity may take some getting used to.

The promise of 27 playable games tomorrow is definitely good news.  I don't think Nintendo's ever made a playable debut of a system with that many games before.  It should be very interesting to see what they all are since I don't think they even showed that many on video at the conference (not that I was counting).

Also of note was no mention of any GBA games other than Pokemon Mysterious Dungeon or any NGC games other than Zelda (and each of these was only mentioned because they have counterparts on the DS and Wii, respectively).  I guess I'll have to dig around for Nintendo's quiet press releases for whatever it's got planned for the remaining days of those systems.

Underwhelming? Wow, I felt the opposite. I really didn't care a damn what Nintendo was up to until they actually delivered some games and it looks to me like they delivered. I thought it was great.

Agreed.  Odd that Smash Bros Online went from a launch title last year to a no-show this year.  I'm assuming that it would be overkill launching it with Zelda?  Or perhaps they are hesitant to overload their online network, so they are holding off on it until a later time after seeing how well it holds up with the Virtual Console (which also didn't get much info revealed).  I'm guessing Smash Bros is next year now---and the Animal Crossing reference basically means that an Animal Crossing is soon to follow.  Although, I believe they said FFCC was online, and it and Dragon Quest Swords are both launch titles.  I'm not sure what is going on with Nintendo WiiConnect24 or whatever it is called.

The Excite Truck game didn't wow me, but it could still be fun to play.  It doesn't top my list of games to get, but I'll give it a try nonetheless.  The Wii Sports package is really smart---typically I'd just ignore all those games separately, but combined for $50 I may actually get it.

I'd like to see more of Fire Emblem and Disaster: Day of Crisis---none of that footage looked in-game.  That Elebits game looks fairly interesting too.  They have a lot of stuff that interests me and I'm eager to hear more about them.  Nice to see more of Red Steel too; it looks like it'll be fun.

No street date or price yet though is disappointing.  Oh well...

What with the Twilight Princess Wii, other than the GCN Lego Star Wars II, the system is pretty much gone.  The same can be said for the GBA, outside of Final Fantasy VI.  DS Star Fox and Yoshi Island 2 were nice surprises, but that's really all that I didn't know about beforehand that interests me.

Ok, here's some more games now featured on Nintendo's website that they didn't mention at the conference:

Chibi Robo: Park Patrol (DS)
Custom Robo Arena (DS)
DK King of Swing DS (DS)
DS Air (DS) [air combat game]
Elite Beat Agents (DS) [Ouendan]
Hotel Dusk: Room 215 (DS) [detective adventure]
Kirby DS (DS) [traditional looking side-scroller]
Magical Vactation (DS) [U.S. version of Magical Vacation 2]

Yeah I was a little disappointed, though not remotely surprised, that the GBA didn't get a look in. Turns out the third pillar stuff was crap.

Zelda looked excellent, really hyped about DS Starfox and eh...something else...forgotten what it was now...

Edit: Thanks for the list XLord - am I the only one who thought King of Swing was pox?

Another thing: I was looking over my notes from the conference.  Iwata slyly mentioned in passing that an Opera browser is included on the Wii's onboard Flash ROM.  Who knows if it'll be used for anything other than the virtual console interface, but we'll see.

With Elite Beat Agents, Ouendan has been given a major overhaul. It seems like a whole new game. By the way anyone with a DS who doesn't have Ouendan, well, you need to get it. That Hotel Dusk looks interesting.

Was it really mentioned as a lauch title last year? All I read last summer was that Nintendo hadn't done any work on it yet, and around that time approached now-freelancing Masahiro Sakurai to build an own team in Tokyo to develop a Smash Bros. sequel for Wii. It's about one year since so I guess it will need another year.

Statements like this bring proud tears to my eyes.  Verily.  ^_^;

I have tremendous faith in Elite Beat Agent, seeing as how iNiS themselves are apparently helming the project.  It'll be interesting to see what sort of music makes the final cut.

Wow, the secretary's boss is the movie star in the new scenario.  And..... is that my precious Bowl Cat tearing up shit as "Meowzilla"?!!  This game's gonna OWN!!

I agree.  For the price, I'd rather have a 360 and Wii.  The thing that's annoying me right now is that Microsoft still has made only a small fraction of original Xbox games backwards compatible, while they promised something along the lines of 90%!

avatar, for me there are only two first-gen titles that I wanted on the bclist---Fable: The Lost Chapters and Jet Set Radio Future.  I don't expect JSRF to show up on their list at the shitty rate they're going.

Everyone should know it's only to cut into the PS3's market share.

If anyone takes this statement to be an honest evaluation, then you must be an idiot -- and no offence meant.

Datschge May 11, 2006

At the price Sony wants to sell the PS3 a cut into their market share better happens.

Anyway for those thinking ridiculously long waiting line for new gadgets are a Japan only thing you better watch this one for Nintendo's E3 booth.

The amusing thing is, both Sony and Nintendo are aiming to expand their markets. Sony trying to dominate "home entertainment" systems by implementing the Cell chip and Blu-Ray, and promising extrafluous (no, it's not a word) features that would appeal to non-gamers. Nintendo aiming to expand their target audience to non-gamers, as well as non-youth by simplifying their games and making it more interactive.

I think only Microsoft can truly cut into PS3's market share, because of the similarity of their target audience as well as their gaming library. The Wii simply cannot hold the PS3/X360's game library because of its technical deficiencies (88mb RAM, 750Mhz).
