I think if I had this, my mom would freak.
It's one of the most amazing cakes I have even seen.

I wonder what a Zelda cake would look like.

Check out the main company website.

The pagoda and art deco ones were really good.

You know, I did see pics of some people having STar WArs-themed weddings too.

I also did see this X-ray cake for a radiologist but it was a different company.

Plymouth, MN, eh?  I might just have to keep them in mind, should there ever be a Mrs. Crash.

Carl Sep 20, 2006

Man, there's tons of details on that thing...
They probably forked a thousand bucks to get all that.

Pretty, but awfuly geeky.  Still, I'd dig into it...

I'd love to see a Metroid cake done like that, even if the subject matter isn't the most appropriate for a wedding.

My word, I'd be afraid to even touch that thing, it's so beautiful. It's not a cake so much as it is a work of culinary art.

Schala Sep 20, 2006

Whoa...that is really cool. Though I must admit that I'd rather go for a more traditional-looking cake at my wedding. ^_~

Flexar Sep 20, 2006 (edited Sep 20, 2006)

Talk about geeky big_smile

Wonder what that actually tastes like.
But honestly. How did they manage to do that? Must've been expensive..

Jay Sep 20, 2006

Looks great. Really nice cake job. If I had thought of something like that for my wedding, I'd have gone for it.

Stephen Sep 20, 2006

Very well-made cake, but with all that detailing, it probably is not cheap.

The question is if the guests enjoyed eating the cake.  :-)

Curiosity got the best of me, and I emailed them, asking them what a cake typically goes for.  Here is the reply I got:

"Our three tier cakes serve 120 to 150 guests (not counting the top
tier, which is traditionally saved for your first anniversary). They range in price from $850.00-$1500, with most of our designs averaging  $1175.00-$1250.00
It takes unusual things (like edible gold leaf, frosting lighthouses,
etc.) to increase the price above $1250.00.  The majority of our  cakes are torted, meaning that each tier is comprised of three layers of cake and two layers of filling, yielding a 6” tall cake tier.  This makes our three tier cakes as tall as most bakeries’ four tier cakes.  It also guarantees nice big slices of cake!

Four tier cakes serve 175-200 guests, (also not including the top tier) and range from $1050.00-$2000.00, most designs falling between $1350.00 - $1600.00

Five tier cakes serve 245-275 and range from $1350.00-$2750.00,
averaging about $1725.00-$2025.00

Servings can be supplemented with our two or three layer (torted) sheet cakes. A full sheet serves 77 guests and costs $165.00 for a two layer sheet (with filling) or $225.00 for a three layer (torted) sheet (with two layers of filling). Half sheets serve 42 guests and run $90.00 for two layer, or $150.00 for torted.

Pricing includes:

-Two different flavors and fillings
-Delivery and set up within the Twin Cities area
-The use of any of our cake stands, candle screens, etc.
-Custom design consultation
-Samples to try (yum)"

Now what I would like to know, is what was meant by saying that the top tier is saved your anniversary??  Um, there's no way a cake would last a year, is there?

cheers,

I've known a lot of people who freeze some of their wedding cake and save it for their anniversary - I don't think it's terribly unusual.  In the freezer it should last quite a long time.

Carl Sep 21, 2006

Booyah, my ballpark pricing guess was pretty accurate!!

(without ever having shopped for wedding cakes either.)

It's an American custom to save your top tier to eat on your 1st anniversary. Like Qui-Gon said, that top tier is frozen to preserve it. No way would it last a year otherwise.

Alas, my wife's mom took out top tier of our wedding cake (which was only two-tier since we had less than 50 guests)...her mom isn't into traditions...so we have no cake. sad

But, we will just get our own cake/dessert for our anniversary. ^_^

Some people made XBOX CAKES!!!!

Metroid cake?
Hmm... I could imagine one tier as the Dark Samus Arena.
Use Blue frosting with some white crinkles to make Phazon covering the place,
and then use "Baby Metroid" candies racing toward that Phazon.
Who would Samus's groom be?

Shoebonics Sep 24, 2006

I want a Resident Evil cake with Jill & Barry choco-chip iced-cream sandwich on top
