We all know our very own forum member Jon Turner.  But I'm gonna tell you why he's so awesome.  I gotta package in the mail yesterday with the following contents:

All contain crisp Mp3's all mastered to perfection as you'd expect from a HOUSE 117/520 MAGNOLIA production.  The time and energy he puts into the presentation of these dics commands my eternal gratitude.

Are these unofficial mp3 soundtracks?  He clearly put a lot of work into the packaging.

Yes.  None of these titles received official OSTs, but you'd swear they did by looking at these pics.

Strange,the guy hasn't made yet the OST to Chrono Break/Brake...You know,the third game in the Chrono series...And he doesn't even have the Chrono Cross arranged OST that was promised by Mitsuda for 2007...What a shame.
Apart from that,the guy is really good doing such work!(even if I prefer official cds).

I'm pretty sure that patent has actually expired now.  Current Square Enix is FAR more interested in remaking Final Fantasy games and doing a bazillion cell phone titles.

I believe only the JP market and SQEX isn't the only company going this route either, I read Capcom did a Mega Man Legends sequel for the cell phone, which really grinded my gears. Parasite Eve also got a cell phone game as well, "The Third Birthday" or something like that. If we had access to those games I'm sure we'd be talking about them instead of loathing their existence and current format.

Yeah, I miss the days when games came out on actual consoles... I mean playing tetris on a phone or something simular is one thing, I can't imagine playing something more complex. Of course, you're looking at the guy that takes a million years to type anything out on a phone.

Not to get completely off topic, but I think they'll likely come out with hybrid devices like the iPhone.  You'll have something like a PSP that you can talk into to call for a pizza.  Might be able to do it already for all I know with a DS, Opera, skype and some finagling.

Is there a list of the titles Jon T. has made into mp3 records somewhere, just out of curiosity?  I always found it strange that Nintendo has chosen inaccessible methods for releasing most of their soundtracks.  It doesn't help familiarize people with their composers.

While ebay bootleggers have long been selling various homebrew rips and passing them off as official soundtracks, it's not like we need to give them incentive/competition to step up their game...

Ha! A little cranky, are we? Who cares about that? It's probably not going to have any effect as an incentive if they're doing it already, and it's obvious from the context that those CDs are the products of a game music-loving heart, so copyright be damned. If I'm correct, those soundtracks don't even have official releases (I could be wrong, though, not sure), so there's nothing to yap about.

Or... are we just a bit jealous?

It's not a bootleg if Nintendo refuses to release the OSTs. See my previous post. Nintendo can suck dese nuts.

Yeah, sorry to say, I hate bootleggers in general, but in this situation, it's an elaborate way of distributing gamerips for games that will never get soundtracks to begin with. I've never had any issue with that, as I'm sure anyone who wanted the music would have bought the official release had it been released.

As long as Jon doesn't take to ebay or start keeping balance sheets if he decides to start selling these things...

You needn't worry; I have no intention of selling any of my custom-made soundtrack albums on EBAY; I am perfectly aware of the issues of legality concerning these albums, and I am only making these so that these game scores can get the album treatment they deserve, and that's all it stands at.

That said, I very much appreciate the kind words spoken about my work in this thread; it really makes me feel very special.

Nice packaging tends to fool newbies into thinking it's a real ost, so it's bound to confuse somebody down the line... 

It could happen: some random kid sees these pics and then tells others it exists, somebody will go looking for it on ebay, where various gamerip compilations are ready and waiting, and he ends up getting ripped off by somebody else (not Jon T). 

And I seem to recall in other ebay-bashing threads that people gripped about boots with high quality printing which fooled newbies, so the scenario has actually happened. 
(again, not by Jon T).

For your own personal enjoyment though, sure, make it as nice as you want.
