I was wondering what people's opinions were about Akumajo Dracula X Chronicle Original Soundtrack...

...because my opinion is somewhat odd.

Am I the only one that thinks the music is fantastic but feels the album is a freaking mess at the same time?

I don't know why I feel that way.

I absolutely love "Dreams of Triumph" because it breathes new life into "Beginning" IMO and I like the remake's version of "Bloody Tears" even though I wish they did more with it.

You are not the only one.

I love so many songs from that game, but a straight listen to the OST convinces me I shouldn't feel that way ... sometimes ...

I don't know if I'm the fickle one, or if the track ordering is just not ... good?

Like, I LOVE the Japanese game over music "Nocturne." But why is it in the middle of the OST? Throw it near the beginning or end, right? My brain hurts!

Hated it. Everything I thought sounded worse than the original, from the synth choices to the guitars. It was a failed, hackneyed attempt to "modernize" a perfectly good (albeit far too short) score and it crashed and burned. The one, lone track I did like was the arrangement of "Poison Mind".

The good thing was they included the original music and not just the CD music. Having the chip music was a good solid addition.

Actually, I'm kind of torn on this one. I'm not really in love with this arrangement, but yeah, at least they have Poison Mind some damn legs with this one.

oh... I just remembered, Nocturne isn't in the middle of Chronicles. It's in the middle of Gekka no Nocturne.

They put it near the end of disc 2 for Chronicles. So nevermind that point.

Nope. When I first heard "Dreams of Triumph" in-game, I knew I NEEDED that OST but once I actually listening to the soundtrack on its own I would skip around all the time and often wouldn't make it through a full song. The songs sounded great the first couple of times that I heard them, but the novelty wore off very quickly. Nothing here that hasn't been done better either in OST or arrange/Battle version elsewhere. (Props for them putting the Drac X OST on disc 2, though.)

Thank you, this is exactly how I feel. I really do like certain tracks (again, Dreams of Triumph is awesome) but yeah, the novelty kind of does wear off.

These were the new arrangements of Dracula X PC-Engine based themes, right?

I remember checking these out after getting the game and listened briefly.  They just didn't hold up compared to the original.  I kept hoping for more 'tribute' to the original, but had something too different now.

Maybe if the original hadn't existed, and these were the only versions we had to reference,  I would feel differently.
