Ever since PSVR was announced and especially since playing it I've always thought the Panzer Dragoon games would be perfect for VR, and now it's happening. "Panzer Dragoon Voyage Record" will remake levels from the first three Sega Saturn Panzer Dragoon games (1, Zwei, and Azel/Saga), but as a "completely new work" made for VR headsets and controllers. The game is being developed by Tokyo-based Wildman (series creator Yukio Futatsugi has said he's not involved). It's slated for release by March 2021, with release platforms yet to be announced.

This is in addition to the previously announced non-VR remake of the original Panzer Dragoon for Switch, PC, and Stadia by Polish developer Forever Entertainment, which is slated to be followed by a remake of Panzer Dragoon Zwei.

I've been a huge fan of the original Panzer Dragoon trilogy ever since first playing the first game on my brand-new Sega Saturn in summer '95, so I'm stoked to see them getting some remake love. I just played the first one for the first time in several years a few days ago, and though the polygons and textures show their age the gameplay, visual aesthetic and world design are fantastic to this day. It's a pity they're apparently not remaking the first two games in VR in their entirety as I'd love to play every level and experience the story in full.

Having only used the PS Move controller for Beat Saber, I wonder how the tracking will be for shooting sideways and behind, and if they'll have to adjust the level design to compensate. (This assuming it comes to PSVR in the first place.) Anyone played any shooters on PSVR and can comment?

Panzer Dragoon Remake is out now for Switch (Steam version still to come). The handful of reviews I've read say it's basically the Saturn game with a fresh coat of paint. That's fine by me, though after watching some YouTube vids I will say that a bit less shine and more grit on that fresh coat of paint would have suited the in-game world better. Still, if I don't wind up getting the upcoming VR remake for some reason and do get a Switch again, I'm pretty sure I'll pick it up.

I picked up the Switch version on launch, but finding time to play isn't going to happen for a while. ARMS is having some big events, and coupled with the inclusion in Smash, now is the best time to be involved with it. I've never seen the ARMS community so active before. I also have to contend with the impact COVID-19 has had on my job, which is causing me to be there 15-20 hours more per week than usual.

I've never played the original Panzer Dragoon and I thought it was coming out much earlier, since the original release date was "Winter". Since it didn't show up, I suspected it was coming out much later in 2020. I probably won't be able to play this until after the summer, because I will be involved with the Smash community, not to mention the need to finish Luigi's Mansion 3!

Have been tempted by the Switch remake, but honestly, I just want them to do a remake of Saga. I've been so curious about it since it came out.

Saga is one of those games that I always feel bad bringing up with people because I am one of the very lucky few who owns a copy and has played through it multiple times (even had a friend crash here for a week between jobs and played through the whole thing while I watched too) and it IS really damn good.  I would LOVE if they'd do a remake of it because more people really should get to experience what is a totally unique take on the RPG genre, and just one of the most memorable games I've ever played.

Is the Saori Kobayashi arranged soundtrack out yet for the Switch remake of the original? I preordered the Limited Run Games physical copy of the game, so I haven't checked it out at all.  The original OST was already so good, but I'm curious to hear the Saga/Orta composer's take on it.

This tweet from the game's official Twitter account says yes.

I'll be surprised if it matches the excellent original soundtrack (which is included in the game by default) but I'd be happy to be proven wrong!

Here's a YouTube playlist with the new Kobayashi-arranged soundtrack for Panzer Dragoon Remake. Not impressed at all, I find the original far better and I don't think it's just nostalgia. If they remake Zwei and its soundtrack I hope they find someone else to arrange it.
