Do you think resident evil 5 will be censored/altered/banned in America?

Jay Nov 9, 2007

Nope.

Amazingu Nov 9, 2007

No, and if anyone brings up the ludicrous racism subject again I will smack him/her.

Qui-Gon Joe Nov 9, 2007

Uhh...no?  Germany, maybe.  Why would it be canceled in America?

Stephen Nov 9, 2007

Well, I'm sure Al Sharpton and other black activists will claim that RE5 portrays the black community in a bad light.

In NYC, the local Haitian community complained about one of the gangs in Grand Theft Auto for the PS2, because one of the characters called for the beating of a gang that supposed Haitian.

Yeah it was Vice City and the direct quote was "kill all the Haitians". It didn't lead to GTA:VC getting banned though. It didn't even make any steps in that direction.

Ashley Winchester Nov 9, 2007

no, it won't... I'm sure Capcom has so much wrapped up in making the game that the loss a major market would be a major concern... they will be able to pull enough strings and have enough PR to cover any "wounds." Also, not so sound baised/uninformed or look like an "arrogant American" but you don't really hear of games being banned in the US, do you? Can anyone give an example? When I hear of bans its always places like Austrailia (no ill feelings towards those from down under.)

GoldfishX Nov 9, 2007

No.

Adam Corn Nov 9, 2007

Three posts deleted for racist inflammatory remarks.

Ashley Winchester Nov 9, 2007 (edited Nov 9, 2007)

Excuse my lack of knowledge but what exactly is it about RE5 that brings this into question? I read the above and it obviously has to do something with race but it seems odd for such a buzz to be going around about a game that isn't out, how can that much be known about it (storywise) by the puplic?

Ephidel Nov 9, 2007 (edited Nov 9, 2007)

Sorry 'bout that I didn't mean it really;) I think the main antagonists in the game are black. As for Germany, they censor away most kinds of violence since WWII. Perfect Dark, Goldeneye......the list goes on. I don't really like to get into debates or politics. I only hope they port it to Wii if UC is a success. They said they wouldn't release resi 4 on another console, less than a year later it arrives on PS2 w/extras. Capcom please make it happen.

well all platforms in last gen were moderately comparable as far as power goes, 360/ps3 to wii are not(this would make totally different experience).

Ephidel Nov 9, 2007 (edited Nov 10, 2007)

PC games like Doom 3 and Half-Life have options to change the resolution/quality of graphics. Surely down-grading the graphics and porting it across would be possible. The Wii still has good 3D graphics and should easily be able to run a lower res version.

I heard the main reason why it's not slated for release on Wii is that it would not have been possible to play without a conventional controller ; a point which Capcom made and then disproved by announcing and releasing Resi 4 for Wii. I think Wii will get UC while PS3 and Xbox 360 will get Resi 5 and a year or two later they'll release the games on the opposite consoles. The reason for the delay is the difference in systems not graphical capabilities (though that is a factor).

that is not going to be the same game with worse graphics, worlds would be probably get stripped down, and it wouldn't feel the same.
maybe they will release different RE5 specially designed for Wii, that would make sense, but don't expect the same game from 360/PS3.

Huh? Why would it be?

UC is doing quite well on the pre-order charts.

re4 on ps2 was a joke, it didn't port over well at all because the game's code was specifically written for the GameCube (and vice-versa with MGS2's 60fps converted to not-so-60fps in Cube's MGS Cubed.
re4 on ps2 is comparable to playing RE2 on the n64

Ephidel Nov 10, 2007

According to Capcom's sales figures on 17th January 2007, the Gamecube version of Resident Evil 4 has sold 1.6 million copies worldwide and the PS2 version has sold over 2 million copies worldwide.

Can't have been that bad then. The consumer has spoken. Hardly unplayable for a downgraded and ported game is it?

Ephidel wrote:

It may be playable, but just knowing it's a far inferior version (like playing SamSho1 on SFC right after playing it at an arcade) would be enough to make me buy a used GameCube on ebay for $40-$80.

but then again, that's just me.

Ephidel Nov 11, 2007

Why, don't you already have a GameCube? You must have really missed out last gen. And yes, it is just you;)

Qui-Gon Joe Nov 11, 2007

Ephidel wrote:

No, it's not.  There are plenty of people, myself included, who would prefer to play the best version of a game (granted, at this point the best version of RE4 is probably the Wii one, since it includes the PS2 extra stuff with the higher quality Gamecube aesthetics and even lets you use a traditional controller if you don't like the Wii setup).

Shoebonics Nov 11, 2007

Thank you, Qui.

Jay Nov 11, 2007

Preferring one version over another does not make the PS2 version "a joke". Considering the supposed difference in hardware, and the amount of people saying it couldn't make it to the PS2, the final PS2 version was amazingly close and had more content than the GC version. And sold more.

I suspect Shoebonics hasn't actually played the PS2 version.

Of course, yes, the Wii version is now the one to go for.

I'm still bummed that you can't download your GCN save to the Wii edition. I unlocked every little thing in that game, and I just can't bring myself to drop the cash on a fresh version again.

Ephidel Nov 11, 2007

COME ON ZANE!!!

You're talking about one of the best games ever, I took great satisfaction in beating this game and unlocking everything all over again. It kinda gets on my nerves though, that my best mercenaries scores are on my GC version. PRL412 ROCKS! Makes me feel like Megaman X (or Zero).

Jay wrote:

i sold my copy on ebay after hearing how godawfully murky the audio was (most noticeably the voice samples).
The colors are pretty washed out, too.

i honestly would not go attacking a particular version of any game without having at least sampled it first, so i'm not sure why you'd think i never played it.

All set with that. There's no way I'm dropping another 40 hours into something for the sole purpose of unlocking stuff that I've already unlocked on another version. I'm sure the Wiimote controls are great, but I thought the GCN controls were great, too. If you could port the save, I would have probably picked up or at least rented the Wii version. As is, I'm happy with the GCN version.

Ephidel Nov 11, 2007 (edited Nov 11, 2007)

To tell you the truth I played through it with my GC controller. Also bear in mind that there were so few HALF-DECENT games out in the UK when it was released. Metal Slug Anthology was a riot though. 40 hours huh, you mean slightly less than 30 right? I wasn't really that hard even on pro difficulty. Just make sure you have a fully-upgraded Broken Butterfly and Mine Thrower before you fight Saddler. Easy as π.

Amazingu Nov 11, 2007

Broken Butterfly? Mine Thrower?
Saddler is so ridiculously easy, you just need a couple of grenades and some handgun bullets. The handgun bullets are for setting off the Oil Drums, then you ram the crane in his side a couple of times, then you use some grenades to stun him into submission, and voila, the Rocket Launcher will drop in no time.
Easiest boss in the game probably, even on Pro.

Ephidel wrote:

So it sounds like you're saying the Wii version is the "definitive" because of a new unlockable weapon that wasn't on the GCN original.

Ephidel wrote:

No, I mean 40. Between Mercs and the three playthroughs I completed, it was more than 40 hours. I would have said 30 if I meant 30. I didn't find the game difficult, just very involving and a lot of fun.

Ephidel Nov 11, 2007

For starters it's the most complete and refined version. With at least three extra weapons and 5 new chapters playable with Ada. Add in the movie browser, polished graphics, Amateur difficulty, and a UC trailer AND the Wii controls. The result is far more than just some extra weapon. Also I meant 30 hours as it is all easily do-able in such a time frame. Maybe you should be practicing instead of bemoaning your feeble skills. And YES I do have a job so no f*cking wise-ass comments. Usually people say how long it takes TO BEAT a game not including how long they play it afterwards. Take a f*cking joke why don't ya. As for Saddler, even if he is easy, he is (and most of the game is as well) even easier if you keep focusing on the Broken Butterfly and Mine Thrower. Most enemies can be simply dispatched with the knife or Red9.

Zane Nov 11, 2007

Dude, seriously - chill out.

Ephidel Nov 11, 2007
