There was some random news blurb I read that today.

Jake Gyllenhaal is supposed to be the Prince. WTF?
And Gemma Atherton (a future Bond girl) is a girl called Tamina.  What happened to Farah?

The other thing was that Alfred Molina and Ben Kingsley have signed on to do the film.

It'll be interesting to find out if one will play the father and the other the Vizier.....or not.
These two are both so versatile and respected, I could imagine these two playing either of the roles well.

Filming starts in July in Morocco or something.

It should be an interesting film... but I'll probably just replay POP SOT instead of forking over the $10 to see something loosely based on one of my favorite games from the PS2 era.

Did I hear correctly that it's a Disney/Bruckheimer film? Could be some good popcorn fluff at least. I'm not sure about Gyllenhaal as the Prince (seriously, WTF?), but Alfred Molina and Ben Kingsley should at least add some class to the movie.

I think I also read somewhere that Ubisoft is planning a game adaptation of the movie, which would be really strange since the movie is supposed to loosely follow the original game's story.

Yeah there's some pics out there now.

You know the first thing I was thinking of when I saw this was.....

"hey that costume looks like it's from the Two Thrones!! What happened to the SOT costume?!"

I wonder if that means they're going to squeeze the trilogy into one film (thus the film was pushed back to 2010)  or the costume designer is ignoring SOT just to show Jake's bod off...   ;p

On another note, I saw some photo manips showing Christian Bale as Solid Snake.
He'd work. He's got the voice for him too.

So true.
I never played any of the other POP games. Are they any good? The newest one is looking like Prince of Final Fantasy rather than POP...

cheers,

Here's my breakdown on the POP games, based on my experiences with them:

Sands of Time (beaten 3x): The quintessential POP experience that should not be missed by any fan of action/platforming games. This is the title that the other two games were built on structurally and is the most pure of the trilogy. It's the Prince at his most charming, the environments and Dagger of Time abilities are fresh, and the overall experience from the game is top notch (all six hours of it).

Warrior Within (beaten 3x): This game features an angry Prince, Godsmack music during some chase scenes and some occasional buggy gameplay and programming. But! It is my personal favorite of the three POP titles due to its great continuation of the POP-style puzzles and platforming, a deeper fighting system and a great soundtrack (minus the Godsmack, of course). Unfortunately, the game received some negative criticism for having a forced, "darker" storyline and attitude for the Prince, but the game itself is really damn good. And now I want to play it again.

Two Thrones (beaten 2x): This is somewhere between SOT and WW in terms of storyline and gameplay, I'd say, but it mostly goes back to the less-oppressive personality the Prince had pre-WW. The addition of the Dark Prince is awesome, and the storyline wraps itself up in a nice little bundle, complete with shiny paper and a ribbon. I don't recommend playing this (or WW) without playing the games that precede it, but if you're made it through SOT and WW you owe it to yourself to play this game. It was nice seeing the Prince inject some humor into the series again with some witty dialog. And, as if I had to say it, platforming and puzzles are top notch!

So, my recommendation: definitely check out Sands of Time. If you finish it and wish to play more, check out Warrior Within, but keep in mind that the tone of the game is different (although the gameplay is very similar). And then, of course, if you're still interested in the series, wrap it up with Two Thrones.

I can't say I'm too pumped about the new POP, though. The visuals are nice, but the fact that it's easier and that the ghostly little female character can actually save you from death means that casual gaming is overtaking mainstream gaming. Wait... aren't they the same thing now anyway?

The hair looks kinda hideous, but I guess that makes it accurate since the Prince had awful hair in the first game. Are they even gonna bother passing him off as Persian though?

Anyway, I played the first game and loved it, but haven't gotten around to the sequels yet. I mostly loved the puzzles and platforming aspects, and thought that the fighting system was easily the weakest part of the game. It's good to hear that it was improved for the sequels, though I would've loved it if they got rid of it altogether.

God damn, you know how hard it is for a scrawny guy like Gyllenhal to get that yoked?  haha, I've never been in shape in my life, just along for the ride (as a friend likes to say)...

BTW, no offense, but I'm glad his sister is not in this one, she had no business in 'The dark night'...
