Sure, it's on the DS, but... geez, there are throwbacks to Tales of Destiny, it sounds like he's using a lot of samples from the Star Ocean (SFC) soundset... there's even a bit of homage to a town theme in Valkyrie Profile 2.

Here are a few samples I've hax0red up so far, including what I thought was the VP2 similarity (621), some battle themes (200, 203), and a couple other tunes I thought were neat.

Is there going to be a CD release for this?

I'll record the rest once we get this sample clicking problem figured out, heh.

Also, yes, I added the reverb.  I felt it was appropriate. :P

I also really badly want to try recording some of these with more "real" instruments.  As usual, I'll report back here if I have any success with that.

cheers. :D

So it's really him?
It's really, REALLY him?!?

ALRIGHT!!!
I really hadn't heard much about this game at all, so it's great to have confirmation! big_smile

Interesting that you mention the SFC sound. Due to my recent love for Tales of the Abyss, I went back and revisited Sakuraba's work from the SFC days, as well as PSF1&2 sets from the Tales series. So...the timing to hear this is just perfect. I won't be able to actually hear these until I get home from work , but I MUST eventually.

And I trust that as a VGMTrans production, you'll be needing the assistance of a looper? *readies GoldWave and ADXEncoder* wink

Thanks!
Hopefully this'll hold me until we hear more about Eternal Sonata...am I the only one absolutely STARVING for info on that game? tongue

I'm kind of expecting none, as there are only 31 tracks with ~25min (non-looped) playtime (unless there are streamed tracks besides the OP). If there will be a Tempest drama CD the soundtrack will make a neat mini OST pack-in.

Like this you mean? (slight spoiler warning: it's the staff roll music)

I'm going to look at the wave/DLS files VGMTrans exports and see if I'll now finally do the Sakuraba instruments pack I intend to do since about half a decade... wanna use his loud snare. =P

Yep, just like that. :P
I'll give it a try and see what I come up with... probably much later tonight.  Tonight's WoW night. ;D

Oh man, a Sakuraba instruments pack... hope you yank a lot from Valkyrie Profile/Star Ocean 2. ;D

SquareTex Oct 26, 2006 (edited Oct 26, 2006)

Finally got to hear it, and I DO like what I'm hearing there.

And I'm quite serious, Amber...if you do rip this bad boy entirely, I'll be your loop-man. smile

Oh, and Dat? Thanks for linking that piece. Very pretty.

Is that your page?
Which soundset are you using?
My effort (I swear I'm going to finish this track tonight) is going to be with EWQL Colossus.

(edit) Ok, took me two hours, and I could nitpick it for hours, but I will save you guys from that. :P
Check out 605 and 605-orch from the directory above.  I also didn't just slap on new instruments... I changed the dynamics of almost every track, and added a timpani roll in the obvious place to be a smartass. 8)

SquareTex- I'll record the whole thing once the clicking problem is fixed.

It's a friend of mine, he used to post his music at gaminforce audio before. I keep feeding him with MIDIs I like. wink He's using mere EWQL Symphonic Orchestra Silver Edition afaik so I better don't mention you have access to Colossus. =P Nice sample btw.

I like it.  It's very...clean.  Pretty, too...thanks for giving us a taste, Amber.

Knurek Oct 29, 2006 (edited Oct 29, 2006)

Here's something all of you should like:

http://rapidshare.com/files/1161826/062 … Tempest.7z

All sseq files from the game converted to MID with two loops and with SF2 soundbanks.

This way the files are playable with proper samples on every soundcard provided you use XMPlay with native MIDI plugin (www.un4seen.com). Not sure about winamp's native MIDI plugin, I know that it can load SF2 soundbanks, but I don't know if it loads them automatically...

Heck, download xmp-7z packer plugin and you don't even have to extract the files, if you can stand the quite severe load times. wink But hey, 2.5 MB vs 80 when unpacked, so you trade something for something. smile

Done with VGMTrans and SSEQ2MID.

SquareTex Oct 29, 2006 (edited Oct 29, 2006)

Well darn, you beat me to it. That's what I get for going away during the weekend. wink

But hey, as long as it's done, I'm happy. It'll be a great counterpart to Amber's final rip. smile

Thanks! big_smile

EDIT: I'm repeating myself from the Yahoo!motoisakuraba group, but I was just curious...your take is a more raw format, while I'm aiming for a soundfont-free experience. Is there any demand for that?

Whoo darng!

I'm way out of touch as I just listened to these samples, and...

Holy cow, this OST rocks!  I am so ready for a full on cd treatment now.

Thank you so much Amber!  big_smile

SquareTex Nov 29, 2006

Well, I made an MP3 recording of this at least, as an alternative. Perhaps not 100% accurate, and unfortunately clippy on the louder tracks, but...it's here if you need it! big_smile

http://www.sendspace.com/file/bheqcf

The full ripping credits are as follows:
Extracted via VGMTrans by ZoopD. MIDI extraction and looping by Knurek. Instrument extraction and DLS sound compilation by Datschge. Recording and fading by SquareTex.

...and unofficially, thanks to Amber for letting us know about TotT and VGMTrans in the first place. smile

Enjoy!
