Did anyone here used to really love the Monkey Island games?  I just read the announcement that LucasArts is (very faithfully) remaking the original Monkey Island and that TellTale is releasing 5 new Monkey Island episodes, all starting this July.  I checked out the footage at LucasArts and TellTale sites and am incredibly excited, especially for the remake.  I haven't played the original in... oh... a good 13+ years.  I can't wait for the updated look, full voice acting, redone soundtrack, and more!!

unbelievable news, game looks great and they brought Dominic Armato back!(voice of Guybrush Treepwood from MI3+), day one purchase.
Super Duper Excited!!!

The first three Monkey Island games are great. The fourth was okay but not nearly as funny (and I hated the Grim Fandango control scheme). Definitely looking forward to this.

I completely agree.  The 4th is the only one I've never finished.  It wasn't bad, but the controls sucked and it definitely wasn't even close to as funny as the others.  The 3rd is by far my favorite in every way possible.  I would love a rerelease of that one.  They don't need to change a single thing.  Rerelease it with some special edition bonuses and I'd be all over that!

Definitely, exciting news...
now, I'm not trying to complain (too much) but just saying that I am not a fan of the new art style. I prefer the older more realistic look. Compare here:

but anyway, that's just a minor point really.

Primarily the portraits I suppose... but hey everyone's a critic, me too tongue
Should be a great game! I hope LucasArts re-releases a ton of classic games, including the Maniac Mansion series!

you do realize that you will be able to switch between old and new style in real time?

I absolutely loved the first four games. I didn't have too much of a problem with Escape's controls, but that's probably because I had the PS2 version. They felt pretty intuitive with a controller.

I'm thrilled that both Dominic Armato and Alexandra Boyd are back, especially the latter. Elaine's voice in Escape just never felt right.

The best part, however, is that Michael Land will be back for Tales of Monkey Island. It doesn't sound like he'll be working on the Secret of Monkey Island remake, though.

let's hope they will release a soundtrack this time!

Well, Telltale has done soundtrack releases for the first two seasons of Sam & Max, so I'd say we hav ea good shot at it!

As for the games themselves, I played almost every Lucasarts adventure game back in the day EXCEPT the MI franchise.  I'm looking forward to having the opportunity.  I just wish that I could play the remake on the Wii with pointer controls instead of on the 360 (why are they splitting the console releases for these between two systems?  Can't they just both come out for both?).

Well, The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition is out... and it's gotten good reviews.
It's also available ONLY via download... so my response is PASS!
I don't care how spectacular the game is. I refuse to relinquish control of my assets to large corporations

*also, in a related case, a 17 year-old is filing a class-action lawsuit against amazon for deleting the book he legally purchased for his e-reader!

personally, I hope he wins!

Anyway, I don't think LucasArts would actually delete your game, but they can pull all kinds of dirty tricks in the same manner as EA does with Spore... SO, point is, screw them! If they make it available as an actual tangible purchase, then I'm game.

cheers,
