Limited Run Games created physical soundtracks for the 3 Shantae series games and they probably won't last long, so if anyone is interested I'm giving a heads up.  Much better to get them at $15 each than to wait and see what ebay resellers mark it up to.  virt has the latter two on bandcamp digitally, but I think this is the first time the GBC one has been anywhere.

TerraEpon Oct 28, 2016

Pretty sure there used to be a site with the GBC one. But yeah, obviously I'll be picking these up -- I had NO idea about this...and I'm a huge fan of the series.

*grumble grumble*

GoldfishX Oct 28, 2016

Done and done. There were only 5 of each left (!) when I placed my order so...yeah.

Thank you for the heads up!

XLord007 Oct 30, 2016

Ordered all three. Been waiting years for these to be available on CD.

I picked up the games too smile

Zorbfish Oct 30, 2016

And... missed it. That's what I get for not checking my email this weekend sad

GoldfishX Oct 31, 2016

Games were gone by the time I got there.

I'll be shocked if they don't do a second run.

If they don't...Anyone wanna give me $500 for all three? tongue

Um, no, they won't. It's called Limited Run Games because the runs are limited yikes

TerraEpon Oct 31, 2016

I'm actually pretty annoyed even though I managed to snag them (well I didn't buy the GBC one), despite all the hype about the PS4 version no one ever seemed to mention the OSTs were coming too. I wouldn't have known until it was too late were it not for this forum.

The_Paladin Oct 31, 2016

Well thankfully as a backer to the upcoming Shantae game on kickstarter I was emailed as a heads up about the PS4 releases and going to the site found the soundtracks listed too.  I snagged everything right away while at work, and posted my heads up since yes it wasn't being mentioned anywhere.  Glad I could help out a little.

Damn! I know that's how things "work" with collectibles, but still, seems wrong...

GoldfishX Oct 31, 2016

Wow, the guy took my idea a little TOO literally.

And I believe these will see another print because of virt's name. It's not like they'll print another 1000-2000 and they'll just sit there. virt could even do it himself and make a small fortune.

Those of us that aren't quite onboard with buying digital copies ONLY are a crazy lot...

TerraEpon Oct 31, 2016 (edited Oct 31, 2016)

Well in this case, the digital versions (of the 2nd and 3rd game at least) are free (pay what you want). So even if you don't want to actually buy them you can still get them.

Yeah, I'm also a backer of course but the email just mentions the games, no soundtracks.

Sorry, I don't see that happening. Shantae was first released in 2002, 14 years ago. There hasn't been a physical CD released until now. Why? because Limited Run Games likes to release that kind of stuff , in limited supply. I think you'll be able to purchase digital copies of Shantae, in fact you already can, but another physical release is wishful thinking.

Not for me it isn't...$$$

I'm also being realistic...virt is one of the only domestic composers that could stamp out a limited print run of his own and sell them online or take them with him to gaming conventions or something. It's not a viable option for 99% of current composers now, trying to find crazies that prefer physical media.

What, does he own a CD production facility? If not, he's not in a different boat than any other composer. Also, he doesn't own the rights to Shantae. He may have composed the music, but most likely the rights to the music are owned by WayForward.

TerraEpon Nov 2, 2016

Actually I believe virt retains the rights to most of his WayForward music (which is why he can offer it free on Bandcamp under his own label).

Don't quote me on that but this is what I've gathered.

Yeah, I think that's the reason, and why for instance he couldn't put DuckTales Remastered on Bandcamp because of Disney being stingy with the license if I remember right

Yeah, I've heard plenty of the limited print run stuff to always doubt it when it comes to western releases. That Spectrum of Mana album was a limited run online but I still see hard copies for sale at MAGFest every year.

Yeah, they did somewhat small print of that album, 500 copies or so (minimum they could have printed if I recall), and from what I remember, around 200-250 were sold/given away, so rest of it has been sold around different music gatherings I guess. And around July last year, they still had 70 copies left. But yeah, it's still somewhat limited.

But yeah, Kaufman probably could easily do a limited print runs of his stuff he wanted, depending if what amount of cd's is minimum different places want for a print. Though, one can wonder if he has the time for stuff like that.

Well, one imagines Capcom was part of it, not to mention the original compositions that weren't by him.

Well, he arranges music from the previous games in Double Dragon Neon which is on his bandcamp.  Of course Contra Dual Spirits isn't on there either.

TerraEpon Nov 18, 2016

Got these today. No liner notes, no rear art (RR is even in an old style black case), but they are pressed CDs, at least.

GoldfishX Nov 19, 2016

Same. Mine arrived today. Yeah, I wasn't expecting Working Designs-style releases here, but I'm more than pleased with what I got.
