Okay... I know this topic is coming out of the blue and the game was released a few years ago... but am I the only person who hate... er, *disliked* the Mega Man 10 soundtrack? I mean really, getting all those composers together I thought this was going to be a Mega Man cream dream but I was sorely disappointed with EVERYONE outside Manami Matsumae who in one track pretty much decimated his work on the original game - yes, even Cut Man Stage which I don't like as much as I use to.

And then you only let Yu Shimoda compose three - largely inconsequential - tracks when he wrote some very instrumental pieces for 9? WTF...?

I found some of the Wily numbers to be extremely aggravating (e.g. Deep in Space) and....

I'm sorry... if you like the soundtrack that's cool but it wasn't in the eCan I wouldn't have it myself.

I just loved the ever livin' hell out of 9 (damn [explative] did it nail everything!) that 10 just makes me bitter.

I wasn't that interested in the 9 ost but the arrange cd made some tracks pop, so is this the case for 10 as well or are both worth skipping? (Ok so Nitro Man in-game is pretty good, but was the only one I listened to)

Also, I'm very interested in two related kickstarters: Shovel Knight, which Matsumae has two songs on and the rest is virt, and Might No.9, which has Matsumae and Takashi Tateishi for an unspecified number of songs but I imagine Ippo Yamada is doing the bulk =\.  I backed for the soundtrack on the former, but the latter had a $20 jump just to get all digital soundtrack, artbook and manual... so I'll get to listen first and assume the soundtrack will be downloadable somewhere at a cheaper price than the $20 if it's decent (sill wish they were making a physical copy though)

I love the soundtrack...for the MOST part. Strikeman, Nitroman and the first two Dr. Wily stage themes are welcome additions to the series and some of the best tracks of their type. There's more misses on this one than your average 8 bit MM soundtrack, I pulled out a lot of tracks towards the end. Overall, it's in the mix of classic MM scores, albeit in the lower half.

MM9, on the other hand, I struggle to digest that one. Concreteman is probably the one theme that sticks with me and Tornadoman has long been the crowd favorite, but I struggle to remember much else from it. Probably more a case I need to relisten...Sounds like a good excuse to pull it out again. wink

As for the arrange CD's, they got way too cutesy with the MM9 one and I pretty much thought it was junk. Too many boring or haphazard experiments that did little to improve the originals. I liked the MM10 one because it was more of an oldschool arrange album, in the vein of the classic Konami arranges or even Alph Lyra. Nothing mindblowing, but a nice arrangement of the score. I got my money's worth out of that one. But if you're not big on the original soundtrack, can probably skip it without too much sleep.

And just to be a total asshole, a personal bonus...MM 1-10, ranked by favorites. wink 1 is probably the hardest to rank, it's iconic, but it's so short. Kind of like saying Super Mario World is a better overall soundtrack than the original SMB, but without the success of SMB, there would be no SMW...Same deal here. In the grand scheme of things, it's still a fine little score. Just goes to show how highly I regard MM music. Also, nostalgia plays a huge role. I never quite had a fondness for 5 (the game), but I could arguably boost it to #2. But this is generally an order I've agreed with for the past couple years now.

2, 7, 4, 5, 3, 6, 10, 1, 9, 8

I love the soundtrack to MM10.
The only soundtrack in the regular MM series that I don't like is 8.

So for me, the old music ranking would look something like this:

3, 4, 2, 7, 9, 10, 6, 5, 1, 8

MM10's soundtrack, as far as I'm concerned, is the most forgettable of the bunch, sitting right up there with 7. I found 9 to be as memorable and fun as 2. Those inclined to hate will invariably hate.

I think I need to listen to it all and reconsider the 9 arrange because the master themes that stood out to me were Magma Man and Concrete Man from that, but the others were still mostly not that interesting on a quick listen.

MM9 (OST) is great, and was a huge part of what I like to call the Vintage Era of 2008-2009 with Gradius Rebirth, MM9, MM10, Contra Rebirth, and Castlevania Rebirth, etc. hitting the market. Konami and Capcom were cranking out games that were somewhat replicas of new games that looked and sounded like they were made in the mid 80s when we REALLY played games to death smile

Back to MM9: It falls under that special class I like to put soundtracks. Not only are the tracks good, but what makes it great is that the soundtrack (to me) as a whole really has no glaring weak points or tracks that you can "afford" to skip.

MM10 is "alright" but almost seems like there are too many cooks in the kitchen. Pretty much all over the place with some listenable tracks here and there. Though I will admit Blade Man has grown on me, it NEVER should've been a Robot Master lead off track. Solar or Nitro Man was better off in that role.

2, 3, 9, 1, 4, 7, 10, 5, 6

I wish I could take two tracks from 5, 10, 4, and 6 and combine them with one Mega Man Soundtrack because each of them has a couple of really good Robot Master songs.

You may also notice that 8 is not on my list. To be honest, I've never ever heard or played Mega Man 8. I've been told that it was time well saved.

I would say play MM8 if you are a fan of the classic games, but take it at face value. It's neither super amazing nor a total letdown. It's good, clean 2D platforming with a couple vehicle levels (ala the X games) thrown in. Difficulty is about average. The only bad points are the voice acting (which is so bad, it's good...quite legendary in the VG world, if you ask me. Right up there with Resident Evil 1 or SotN) and again, the music is effective but nothing special. The Wind Stage and Dr. Wily Level 1 are my two personal standout tracks. Good way to kill an evening.

But nearly everyone agrees that MMX4 smokes it, as both were released around the same time. IMO, it's the best X game by far.

I really want to say X4 is as well, but at the same time the original game is great as well. In a certain sense it ends up being a toss up for me... the original X made a real big impression on me when I got it even though over the years those memories were kind of forgotten until someone reminded me about how good the game was. On the other hand X4 was the last great game in the franchise so it has some rather significant qualities as well.

Again... toss up between 1 and 4 for me.

It'd be hard for me to decide between X, X2, and X4 for best X game. X was the groundbreaking original, X2 felt like such a natural evolution of everything that was awesome about X.

Wow, I think you're the only person I've ever seen who actually agrees with me on X2 being an improvement over X1.

High five!
