Originally, I was planning to ask a question about the "True Blue: The Best of Sonic the Hedgehog" soundtrack, but I figured out that it had at least one notable non-vocal track that is probably worth the price. Anyway, my questions are more geared to the lesser known soundtracks like the "Super Sonic Dance Attack Remix ~ Inter Galactica Dance Club" and those Sonic Dance Power soundtracks that I see from time to time on Yahoo! Auctions Japan. Anyone have any idea what those are like? I'm guessing the Virtual Sonic soundtrack is something of a collection album.

Also, with regards to the audio tracks on the Japanese version of the Sonic CD game, I'm aware that the past versions of each level are not redbook audio, but can they be ripped anyway?

Thanks.

This I can answer. The Past themes are consistent in all versions and recorded as Redbook, oddly enough, in the American release.

So, all I need to do is get a copy of the Sega CD version of Sonic CD to get the Past themes? Well, I already got a copy of the Mega CD one, so that shouldn't be too hard to do and it's still better than trying to go for the Sonic the Hedgehog Boom album.

Thanks for that bit of information.

I'm not too up to date on ripping utilities these days, but the only method I ever knew to isolate the Past themes was to access the game's sound test, where you can listen to them separately, then record them by analog.  And as far as I know, it can be done on either the Sega CD version or the Mega CD version.

As for the Sonic dance CDs, I've only heard a couple, but to my knowledge most of them contained music unrelated to Sonic.  The Super Sonic Dance Attack is about the only one that has Sonic-related music that I've heard.  Not too shabby either.  I dig the Bare Knuckle remix in there too.

Thanks for confirming what I was thinking when I saw the covers of those soundtracks. I may have to pick up that Super Sonic Dance one, though.

Speaking of ripping, does anyone know if the music in the PC version of Sonic CD is the same as the one found in the Sega CD?

Epsilon Aug 20, 2008

Well, the BGM is the same in PC version as the Sega CD version, but the redbook audio itself is different. You see, the PC version has the Past tunes as redbook audio, thus making all the tracks shorter as well as having different track order.

Really??  I didn't know this.  Hm, better hunt down a rip of the PC version.

P.S.  On a side note, I recall the PC version of Sonic III's music, while redbook, being absolutely atrocious.  Steer clear of that.

Do you mean from the Sonic and Knuckles Collection for the PC? Cause that did not have redbook audio; it used MIDIs.

xanadujin Aug 21, 2008

Maybe that was it.  Were they MIDIs?  Hm...  Well, they were bad MIDIs then. smile

Not that I still don't have faith that one day we'll see an official Sonic 1 - Sonic & Knuckles music collection release, but is there a good source to rip the four Mega Drive/Sega Genesis Sonic games from?

Mihimaru GT Aug 25, 2008

I was thinking something along the lines of a lossless source like possibly one those Sonic collection games.
