Direct from Capcom, this is allegedly what Akuma will look like in the game itself:  http://blogs.capcomusa.com/blogs/digita … 15#more315  I can't wait to see it motion!

Here's a step-by-step on how Udon is redoing the art in the game, using Ken in a pose:  http://blogs.capcomusa.com/blogs/digita … 28#more328  Makes me curious how it will actually look in motion now... all they are doing is replacing each frame of animation or will they make it smoother by adding more frames?

Interesting info from that last link:

– The chances of this kind of treatment (“HD Remix”) being done on another Street Fighter game will depend on how SF HD Remix does.

...

– We will not be redoing the music or the voice and sound effects.

– Zangief should be retaining all of the scars in from the original game. For that matter, the character designs for everyone else will be the same as well.

– The game will not have any new characters or secrets that the original did not have. We will, however, be re-working the endings. We will not change the main content/message of the endings, but the writers at Udon will be re-imagining them to offer another angle or take on the original endings. I’m not going to spoil anything about them, but it’ll be pretty damn cool for those that know the old endings.

I'd like to see a SF3:3rd Strike HD Remixed and SFA2G HDR (if I have to choose, otherwise I'd like all three SFAs).  I'd be happy with any (and all) of the Marvel fighting games prior to MvC.

Those are looking damned fine so far.  Rack this one as one more title that's going to sway me into getting a 360 or PS3 soon.  (Out of curiosity, which system's controller do you guys find easier to play with fighters?)

Shame to hear that they're not redoing the music or sound effects, though.  I hope they'll at least add the multiple soundtracks option, like they did with Street Fighter Anniversary Collection.  I can't see these amazing new graphics going in hand with the original CPSII score.

GoldfishX Jun 14, 2007

On one hand, this is a total waste of resources...I'd prefer to see NEW fighting games and it can argued one of the reasons the genre is long-dead is because Capcom no longer makes them. That said...I'd also love to see the awful lo-res Naomi sprites for CvS 2 and MvC 2 redone in this style (CPS2 stuff still looks great to me).

Meh overall...

*insert PS3 lack of software joke here*  However, considering that it is a PS2 controller with some doofy sixaxis thing and no rumble, I say it has been just fine for the Street Fighter Alpha Anthology.  I've not tried a fighter on the 360 because Guilty Gear isn't backwards compatible and I don't care for any of the XBLA fighters released.  Luckily, XBLA games have trial demos so I'll try SSF2HDR on it before deciding between the two.

The art is great, but they aren't updating the sound?  Bummer.
Too bad the 2D fighter has gone the way of the shoot-em-up.   Just not a big enough market to justify a large company's time anymore.

The PS1-PS3 controller d-pad is wretched for 2D fighters... I sold off my copy of Street Fighter Alpha Anniversary because I was getting blisters after a few minutes of game play; weaing a band-aid on your left thumb kind of takes the fun out of it. The original PS1 Tomb Raiders are also hell on the thumbs as well, but at least you don't need to make quarter circle motions there. If it wasn't for the d-pad the PS1~PS3 would be great for fighters as far as size/shape is concerned.

Exactly... do they really think ppl are fixated on graphics THAT much? Actually I should probably hold my breath on that one as I'll probably be proved wrong by the sales figures.

Jay Jun 15, 2007

It does seem utterly bizarre to put so much effort into the sprites and not update music or effects. Does look nice though.

Ryu Jun 15, 2007

Well, is this basically a total show of disinterest by the majority here?  Will the same disinterest go for Super Puzzle Fighter II HD Remix too?

Jay Jun 15, 2007

For me, I wouldn't call it disinterest. I have a mild curiosity and will keep an eye on how it goes but I'm not exactly hyped.

I guess the online play for both games is why I'm hyped.

Jay Jun 15, 2007

Oddly enough, I haven't yet got into the whole online play. I bought a Gold Live membership thinking I would but I just haven't. I'm not even sure why. I haven't even played Gears of War online yet. There's a whole multiplayer game there I haven't touched.

Not to mention co-op playing as Dom gets you achievements... if you even care for such a thing.

Adam Corn Jun 15, 2007

Hopefully this just means that they will not be making their own remakes of the music, but are still open to including remade music from previous CDs/games.

I can't believe they still haven't made a 3D cell-shaded Street Fighter.  2D SF gameplay with some 3D cinematic flairs and gameplay tweaks, along with SF2 The Movie style graphics... that would be the way to go IMO.

Ryu Jun 15, 2007

Maybe if there is success with these graphic overhauls, perhaps Udon will have interest in doing something like what you suggest, Adam.  Since Capcom has a blog, perhaps you can send a few comments to it and see what comes of it, such as other fans agreeing/disagreeing with that feedback going directly to Capcom staff?

GoldfishX Jun 15, 2007

Adam, I don't mean to sound rude, but that's the first I've ever seen a serious suggestion for SF The Movie graphics. My problem with adding 3D are the hit boxes wouldn't be as instantaneous as the current 2D games are.

I think the sprites they used for the Alpha games are deliciously detailed and animated enough...They've just looked terribly flat and pixelated recently because of the piss-poor resolution Capcom has them in (compare to the ones in Guilty Gear or even anything CPS2). Plus it's hard to imagine Street Fighter characters looking like, say, the Budokai games (which use 3D shading).

Note to Capcom: Make NEW games. Stop rehashing old ones.

No, achievements are something else I haven't got into. I'm not sure I like the idea at all actually. If something is fun in-game, I shouldn't need extra incentives.

I agree, but I wouldn't limit the finger pointing to Capcom (*cough* Square Enix *cough*) I'd personally like to see a new BoF - they seem to have forgotten about it outside the PSP ports of III and IV.

It's kind of sad 85% of the games I'd buy for the PSP are remakes/ports/rehashes - but then this is exactly why I don't want to buy them or a PSP. Purchasing games I already own for the PS1 minus a few enhancements isn't worth my time or money.

There are ways of using smooth polygonal graphics without moving the battle engine itself to 3D. The Rumble Fish 1 & 2 are such examples.

Ryu Jun 16, 2007

When you raise that point, 50% of the PSP games I have (all of 4) are remakes/rehashes/ports (Capcom Puzzle World and Powerstone Collection---although I didn't have any of those games on any other system, and it is worth having a portable Puzzle Fighter).  The other 2 are Burnout Legend and Ace Combat X.

brandonk Jun 16, 2007

Speaking of PSP...I am playing homebrew emulators, pretty much exclusively.  The entire NES and Genesis catalog, nearly flawless.  Super Nintendo games are hit and miss at this time.    I think Sony has seriously dropped the ball on supporting their quite versatile device.  I would rather keep the homebrew (be keeping a lower version of the firmware), than playing any of the official games for PSP.  That is until Castlevania comes out.  Another rehash..ha!

XLord007 Jun 17, 2007 (edited Jun 17, 2007)

I'm loosely interested in these HD remakes.  I would be more interested if they were actually upping the quality of the animation and not just replacing the existing frames with high-def art.  A three-frame Hadouken is still three frames regardless of what resolution it's in.  I'm also skeptical about the online play since I've read that there's massive lag in the XBLA version of SF2T.

I still can't believe Capcom hasn't done anything in almost a decade. They've almost completely thrown the Street Fighter saga on hiatus. That goes for the ZERO/Alpha, Vs. series, EX (thought I had assumed EX3 was the finale), IV or what have you. They just keep on with the endless and often off-the-mark ports and repeating themselves with budget-laced rehash mayhem.

More SSFIIHD news, info from Rey, and Chun Li's new art.  Kohler's use of the word "classy" on his own blog made me laugh out loud for some reason: "Apparently the Street Fighter fans have been crying out for more in-game artwork from the upcoming Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix for Xbox 360 and PS3, and more specifically they want some Chun Li. Obliging, Capcom gave them the animated sprites for her Continue screen, after she gets beaten up. Classy."

GoldfishX Jun 23, 2007

That was always one thing that bugged me about the first SNES game...The "defeated" animations were missing (you would just have a still-shot of the defeated fighter on the continue screen, then they'd be miraculously healed into their standard portrait). First time I went to the arcade, that caught me off guard and I used all the characters just to see their "dying" animation.

But yeah...classy. LOL

I'm mostly curious about what the revised endings will be like. In particular, I seem to recall that Zangief's ending involved Soviet dancing with a Gorbachev look-alike. Now that Gorbachev's dead, will they replace him with Putin?

Last time I checked, Gorby's isn't dead.  And changing that ending would be a sin regardless if he's alive or dead.  Talk about classic.

Ryu Jun 25, 2007

Heh, I guess he was thinking of Boris Yeltsin.

D'oh, my mistake. I probably was thinking of Yeltsin. Still, I always thought it was hilarious that they actually went through the trouble of creating a Gorbachev sprite. It should be interesting to see how Udon "re-imagine" the scene.

XISMZERO Jun 28, 2007

I still think Putin is like an evil, alterworld version of Daniel Craig. I don't know...
