I've been going though some Castlevania music lately and looking at Symphony of the Night I always tend to use the in-game names for tracks since that was the main way I listened to the music growing up. Even today, despite the translations from the soundtrack I still default back to these names, does anyone else do this?

I was going to ask if any of the names were changed in Drac X but I found some info and it seems some where:

PSP ---> PS1 / Soundtrack Translation
Prologue ---> Same / Same
Dance of Illusions ---> Same / Illusionary Dance
Castle Dracula ---> Dracula's Castle / Same
Golden Steps ---> Dance of Gold / Golden Dance
Marble Hallway ---> Marble Gallery / Same
Demon's Breath Tower ---> Tower of Mist / Same
Carved Partita ---> Wood Carving Partita / Same
Fairy's Doorway ---> Door of Holy Spirits / Gate of Spirits
The Horde's Festival ---> Festival of Servants / Our Festival
Requiem to the Gods ---> Requiem for the Gods / Requiem of the Gods
Misted Crystal Ball ---> Crystal Teardrop / Crystal Drops
Abandoned Pit ---> Same / Path of the Departed
Rainbow's Cemetery ---> Rainbow Cemetery / Same
The Lost Portrait ---> Lost Painting / Same
Waltz of the Pearls ---> Dance of Pales / Pearl Dance Song
Cursed Sanctuary ---> Curse Zone / Cursed Holy Castle
Demonic Banquet ---> Enchanted Banquet / Evil Banquet
Wandering Souls ---> Wandering Ghosts / Awakened Soul
Pitiful Scion ---> The Tragic Prince / Young Nobleman of Sadness
Gates of Hell ---> Door to the Abyss / Door to the Abyss
Gates of Heaven ---> Heavenly Doorway / Door to the Heavens
Poetic Death ---> Death Ballad / The Ballad of Death
The Outcasts ---> Blood Relations / Strange Bloodline
Final Toccata ---> Finale Toccata / The Final Toccata
The Black Feast ---> Black Banquet / Black Feast

Some comments:

Demon's Breath Tower ---> Tower of Mist / Same
I have to say this is an interesting one because it supports a translation that listed the track as "The Tower of Evil Mist" Don't have a preference for what it's called though.

The Horde's Festival ---> Festival of Servants / Our Festival
The difference here is interesting as well, but I'm still hung up on "Festival of Servants" being the track's name.

Fairy's Doorway ---> Door of Holy Spirits / Gate of Spirits
Take your pick!

Requiem to the Gods ---> Requiem for the Gods / Requiem of the Gods
Well, we know "Gods" and "Requiem" are definitely in there!

Misted Crystal Ball ---> Crystal Teardrop / Crystal Drops
Crystal Teardrop gets a nod because of nostalgia, but the addition of "misted" is different enough to catch one's eye

Waltz of the Pearls ---> Dance of Pales / Pearl Dance Song
Two "Pearls" vs. one "Pales"

Cursed Sanctuary ---> Curse Zone / Cursed Holy Castle
A tune that's always grated on my nerves but the change in the second word in the title is notable.

Demonic Banquet ---> Enchanted Banquet / Evil Banquet
"Evil" and "Demonic" are quite different from "Enchanted"

Wandering Souls ---> Wandering Ghosts / Awakened Soul
Always liked "Wandering Ghosts" because the song sounds as if they're looking for a fight... those souls/ghosts are in an arena after all.

Pitiful Scion ---> The Tragic Prince / Young Nobleman of Sadness
To me, this song will always be known as "The Tragic Prince," it just fits this crunchy song. "Young Nobleman of Sadness" is a little too close to Curse of Darkness' "Young Nobleman of Madness" for my tastes so I usually change that to "Insane Aristocracy" like in that game's sound test. "Pitiful Scion" seems to be out from left field though.

The Outcasts ---> Blood Relations / Strange Bloodline
A toughie. "Blood Relations" and "Strange Bloodline" both sound pretty cool, but "The Outcasts" does play into the idea the enemies you're fighting are fake versions of former heroes.

Anyway, those are just some prattling thought's of mine. Anyone have any preferences or can shine any light on word choice?

"A miserable little pile of secrets!"

I always liked the the name "The Tragic Prince", but "Young Nobleman of Sadness" goes with the other "Young Nobleman..." songs on Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness. I think "The Tragic Prince" looks good and you don't see those words often.

Are the first song titles from an early translation of the soundtrack? I thought I remember the in-game sound test in SotN's library used titles like "The Tragic Prince".

Strange Bloodlines is the theme when you fight Richter Belmont that has his theme in it right? Are you thinking of the upside down colloseum with the Castlevania 3 cast? I like the consistentcy it has with the other versions of the theme like "Opposing Bloodlines" in Portrait of Ruin.

And I guess its suppose to be "Pearls" and not "Pales" huh?

I have to rerip this OST soon since the first time everything was left with ????? because of the way I tagged, so I'll probably use the more recent translations that seem accurate.

I didn't like that "Den" in Dracula X was translated as "The Nest".

My bad on this one, I had the PSP and the PS1 swapped up above... it'll make more sense now.

The first title is the name of the song in the sound test in The Dracula X Chronicles
The second title is the name of the song in the sound test in the original PS1 version
The third title is from a ost tracklist translation, the one that seems to appear on most sites

Yes, I was thinking about the fight w/the Castlevania III cast, I honestly can't remember what plays when you fight Richter but that seems the most logical choice as to what does play, maybe I should pop that in and play it.

I've always stuck with tracklist translations.

Game Music.com was the first place I ever found tracklistings, so their translations always took precedence; 2nd came Soundtrack Central's tracklistings, then Chudah's Corner, RPG Fan, and then Game Music Revolution.

I usually don't go with the in-game translations, because usually they're not very poetic, and sometimes they just call it "Wakka's Theme" (Final Fantasy X) instead of "Men Staked on Blitz" or "Blitzball Gamblers" (I like the former better).

What really irritates me is when we can't agree on translations (see above example); Xenogears's tracklist has always been up for discussion ("Ship of Sleep and Regret" versus "Cage of Remorse and Peace of Mind").
