XISMZERO May 23, 2008 (edited May 23, 2008)

After years and years of awaiting Capcom's next crossover, it's been announced: Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom.

At first glance, I had no idea what a Tatsunoko is but after doing a quick jolt of searching, it appears they have produced Evangelion and Samurai Pizza Cats! Production wise, the game departs from 2D, which makes me sad.

Share your reflections!

Idolores May 23, 2008

Yeah, sounds about right. If the Pizza Cats make an appearance, I'll be most pleased. smile

The design looks pretty excellent, with the exception of the background which I imagine (hope) is just an early work in progress.

Anyone know if the Casshern (Casshan?) show was any good? I really like his design here but have only ever seen the movie.

To me it's the most convincing 2.5D effort to date (based on early screenshots, admittedly); at first glance I really wasn't sure if the characters were sprites or models. To me, in terms of character models, this is what SFIV should look like--those ARE Chun-Li and Ryu to me, not whatever Hulkish action figure models they're using in IV.

Being the worst kind of fighting game fan (the type that enjoys the presentation and character roster and laid-back/casual gameplay as opposed to perfect balance and intense competitive tournament play), the over-the-top MVCesque gameplay that the screenshots imply is a welcome return... I just worry that with half the cast not being immediately recognizable to westerners, it's chances of domestic release are diminished.

Exactly.

I don't think there is a chance in hell of it being released outside Japan. Many of the Tatsunoko characters are likely licensed to completely different companies and it would be a nightmare to try to sort out.

absuplendous May 23, 2008

Well, if it gets a PS3 release, at least it can be imported and played on non-Japanese PS3s...

Ryu May 23, 2008

We didn't even get the Namco x Capcom game, I don't have much faith this is coming here.

Shitty, huh? At least there's this  . . .

If only someone would do the same for Super Robot Wars games, I could die a happy man.

Agreed on the character models looking great and the welcome return of over-the-top gameplay. The one shot of Chun-Li's Kikoshou vs. Ryu's Shinkuu Hadoken has me drooling.

As for an international release, I'm willing to bet we'll get this in some form or another. I think the reason we never got Namco X Capcom was because of the presumably massive amount of text that needed to be translated plus gameplay that they thought wouldn't appeal to Westerners. Fighting games are theoretically more appealing to US fans, and there probably won't be much text, either. Heck, if they were really lazy they could just get rid of the Tatsunoko characters and make it a Street Fighter game.

I've said this from the start...I wish they would have just ditched the Marvel characters when they lost the license, tacked on another 12-15 Capcom characters and had MvC 3.

I'm reasonably psyched for Guitar Hero IV (tracklist pending), but this is definitely the most excited I've been for ANY game in years. The reason Marvel vs Capcom 2 is so f---ing lame now is because it should have been updated in some form or another. In its' infancy, it was an amazing and inventive game, as opposed to the retarded "four characters only, unless you're special and want to show off" gameplay we see now. Hopefully the awesomeness will be reborn again. On 360 *crosses fingers*

...

Yes, I WILL buy a goddamn PS3 for this. Just like I bought a Dreamcast for the MvC games.

Actually I think NxC didn't happen outside Japan because the other territories' divisions couldn't agree on who would publish, who would profit. As for Tatsunoko vs Capcom (which my mind WILL NOT stop reading as Tsuchinoko vs Capcom), if ANYTHING related to Super Robot Wars is included, they'll probably just keep it Japan and save the licensing headache.

But hey, we'll DEFINITELY get DC vs Mortal Kombat! HA HA ha haaa....hm.

XLord007 May 25, 2008

Looks kinda cool, but it's not SF4.  I'm also not sure why Capcom wants to have two upcoming 2.5D fighters at the same time, but I guess that's its business.  I'd be willing to try it, but I never really got into the X-Men and Marvel Vs. games since they were too over-the-top for my tastes.

Looks like there's a Megaman Legends stage in there.
Can we expect Ms. Bonne in her walking battle tank again?

It's an interesting localization prospect.  If nothing else, it'll be curious to see what will get omitted, censored, or altered.

Considering how many of the endings mix characters freely, changing things could be more of a headache than paying to retain them.

But I'm holding onto my skepticism until Capcom themselves confirm it. Something about a lone forum post in the Photoshop Era makes this a bit suspect.

Jay May 18, 2009

There's also so much in it that will mean little to the majority of a Western audience that it would likely end up torn to shreds if they were really going to localise it. So I'd also say it will likely just be a translation with added Battle Of The Planets names. At least, that's what I'd hope. I'd hate for content to be removed.

I haven't played it but it looks like a lot of fun so I'd definitely be interested in picking it up once the US release surfaces.

Actually there are some full scans out. Shows they've tweaked the lifebars, but so far with the screens shown, everyone's there. No BotP naming or anything. The only ones not shown are Ippatsuman and Daimao but it could be because they were secret unlockable characters. Capcom also says they'll try and add Online Play as well as hinting at new characters
