Admit it...the "...huh?" factor made you enter this topic, right? big_smile
Well, now that you're here, let me explain. It's a new idea I'd like to try out for fun.

The BGC is simply where you list video game soundtracks that:
1. You have in a format OTHER than a legitimate (most often CD) release...
2. A legitimate offering IS readily available, in spite of rarity and cost, and...
3. You just haven't got around to "Doing the Right Thing" yet. smile

Got that?
Okay.

Granted, I bet our trangressions are NUMEROUS, so if you like, you can limit yourself to only you big favorites.

First up...my confessions...and some rather lame attempts at rationalizing. ;P

1. DewPrism - Due to its previous OOP-ness, I was quite contented with the PSFs, and made myself a 2-disc set from it. Of course, SE just HAD to come along and reissue it...
2. SaGa Frontier 2 - ditto. Of course, I'm resistant because most of the tracks on the OST are unlooped, and my PSF recording is...four CDRs of Hama-goodness! big_smile
3. Star Ocean 2 (OST and Arrange) - I was tricked into getting the phonies. sad And when the PSF arrived, it kinda took away the desire to correct that mistake.
4. Valkyrie Profile (same) - likewise tricked on the Arrange album. Never did get the OST. Loved the looped PSF set. But alas, both are reissued and taunting me for being a naughty boy.
5. Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon - did you know that if you took the PSF-set recordings and the non-sequenced tracks, and burned them onto an 80-minute CDR with no gaps in-between, it'd just barely fit? WHY COULDN'T THEY HAVE DONE THAT FOR THE OFFICIAL OST?!?
6. Wild ARMS (1 and 2) - Yeah, I could say that it's fair to have PSFed WA1 since the OST was incomplete, and WA2 because they weren't looped. But in the case of the first game, we now have a Complete Soundtrack. *whimper* wink

...and there would be others. The "Tales of" PSF sets, for one thing.

Okay, who's up next? smile

1. Anything copy-protected. Those Sega Rock albums's aren't bad for $20 apiece...Why the hell do they have to come on those mangled discs that have nothing better to do than pose as CD's? I have the US version of the Sonic Heroes OST, but I actually "use" the Japanese OST's files (they're looped). Re-release on the right format, please.

2. I don't get the mindset of the Guilty Gear Boxset. Obviously, the real fans of the series HAVE all the albums, so why would they make us buy everything again just to get the 50 minutes or so of new content? Good deal for people new to the series, but...I'll say no more on that matter...

3. Same scenario as Squaretex, but with the Star Ocean 1 OST that's been released. Except the version I have loops and it fits snugly on 2 CD's. Conclusion: I'm better at putting soundtracks together than the professionals.

4. Same scenario with Wild Arms 1 Complete. It's REALLY hard to drop $30 on it now, considering I own both the first OST and Code F (which is mostly a remake of the original). One of these days...

5. Estpolis re-release. Taking away the loops from the original print (for Lufia 2), lowering the sound volume to a pathetic whisper and tacking on two piss-poor arrangements only makes me want the original print moreso and does nothing in the way of replacing CD-R's/SPC's. Can anyone verify Energy Breaker and Chaos Seed didn't get their releases butchered like this travesty?

6. Dragonball Z1 and Z2. Don't buy the OST. Download the gamerips. I'm serious...They absolutely killed this one. I'd have a much lower opinion of both scores if I had only heard what is on the OST. I don't even want to know how much Z3/Budokai 3's release is missing (no rip for it yet that I know of)...I might be better off not knowing, considering how good it is.

7. Dear Falcom: Gurumin's OST is brilliant, but I wish to purchase the soundtrack seperately from the game it comes with, hence minimizing the cost and saving me from buying something I may not be able to use. I will continue to sing its' praises...Do indulge people and make it available for sale...SEPERATELY!

In general, there's a number I have "on account" at the moment. Getting that sorted out is more or less a long term project.

I plea the fifth...

Ramza

PS - legitimate answer for one I really DO want to own but haven't paid for yet -- the six disc Wizardry Box Set that was recently released. I'm very interested in the music, and I even picked up a few Wizardry albums that weren't in the box set to test out the music before I DLed the mp3s for the box set...I love it, I just can't find a way to shell out the 100+ dollars to buy it. smile

Heh...I got so caught up in the Tales of Destiny business that I forgot about this thread! big_smile

So...any other confessions? wink

Nope smile

Nowadays, if I can't get my hands on the actual CD, I don't bother with it at all.  I may listen to a mp3 sample to decide if the album is worth chasing down, but the sample is deleted afterwards.

I'm too busy playing video games.

Same here, man.

Eh, I have no guilty conscience.

Idolores Dec 14, 2006

At one point I had bootlegs of every OST I cared about (which totalled about 25 or so CD's). I got sick of having bootlegs around, so I threw them all out.

Now I have official versions of The Bouncer OST, Parasite Eve Remixes, Baroque OST (Thanks, McCall!) and Ys II (Again, thanks, McCall!).

I still need to get Xenogears, Racing Lagoon, and Chrono series OST's. Then I swear I'll be able to rest for awhile.
