(following is a stream of consciousness with a link at the end.)

Dawn of Mana...

uh.

This .wav file is 3 hours and 15 minutes long.  It's all BGM.

The 4 disc soundtrack for this game will not be looped. smile

I had to convert the audio with MFAudio at 22050hz, because the rip at 48,000hz was 2.9GB, and Sound Forge wouldn't even open it, so sorry if the quality sucks, but this is like my other one-track rips, not full quality anyway.  The only really bad thing about 22050hz is that the fade ins/outs and other really quiet parts are a bit distorted, but oh well.

I have absolutely not listened to even close to all of this yet, so please post your favorite parts, remixes from other mana games, or anything you found notable... the first awesome thing I ran into is the track that starts at about 41:18 - it's quite rockin', and I love the percussion.  The track starting around 86:16 is also extremely heavy on the rockin', and tickles my SaGa battle theme nostalgia bone. big_smile

148:08: ahahahaha. what are those voices chanting?

58:08: hey, what's Sakimoto doing in here? big_smile  Actually, there are tons of Sakimoto-sounding things all over the place.

93:37: heyy, it's the Seiken Densetsu theme.  Piano and celesta rendition, it seems.  Oh wait, there's the rest of the orchestra, hahe.

186:25: I should really know better, but I was expecting this one to break into the Zelda theme.

You know, I Googled around a bit, and couldn't even find a composer list for Dawn of Mana.  Could someone remind me?

my favorite thing about Ito is the percussion he uses.

I think we're looking at the best OST of 2007, guys. yikes

Uploading now.  ETA: about one hour.  File disappears in one week, unless I forget. smile

(edit: I'm not drunk, I swear.
Happy new year, all. big_smile)

Wanderer Jan 1, 2007

This is awesome, Amber! I can't wait to hear it! big_smile

Harry Jan 1, 2007 (edited Jan 1, 2007)

Composers are Kenji Ito, Tsuyoshi Sekito, Masayoshi Soken and Ryuichi Sakamoto (main theme). Junya Nakano is guest arranger.

oddigy Jan 1, 2007

Harry:  Thanks for the info.  Masayoshi Soken... there's a name I've never heard.  What's he done?

Anyway, file's up.  Have fun. big_smile *drags self to bed to play some Legend of Mana on PSP.  Mana Mana Mana.*

Wanderer Jan 1, 2007

Yay! And wow, look at those download speeds! I might actually have this before the year is up! yikes

lordskylark Jan 1, 2007

Then there's all of the FMV scenes too - that's another 36:03

He did the soundtrack to Mario Basketball 3 on 3 most notably as well as a few other things. wink

EDIT:

Kikuta's Meridian Dance at 2:16:35 (Windows Media Player Time)
...and again, 2:27:30 (Windows Media Player Time)

I've only just skimmed through the rip, but I'm adoring what I hear. I probably won't hear more until the OST comes out. Untill then, I know there are more old Seiken themes in there, but who can pick them out?

Ramza Jan 1, 2007

I was wondering whether or not I'd preorder this OST. I think you just sold me Amber. ^^

I can't wait to hear Sakamoto's main theme, simply because I can't remember him working in VGM before (he won a fricken Oscer!)

And yeah, thanks Amber. Looks like a we're getting a lot of YUMMY stuff lately...

Starting at 2:15:27 is a theme from Seiken Densetsu 3.  Can't remember what it's called though... heh, those tracks had such weird names.  It's one of the whimsical themes, though.  Perhaps we've stumbled upon a big pile of Kikuta-homage.  Let's see.

2:20:32: ha, Seiken Densetsu 1, complete with authentic sounds. wink
2:23:49: overworld theme from Seiken Densetsu 1 smile
2:25:09: yeah! the desert music from Seiken Densetsu 2 big_smile big_smile
2:25:43: This is from SD3, but I don't know the name... the Jamaican rapping in the background is funny.
2:26:55: More SD3.
2:28:50: more SD1, complete with humorous 8-bit soundage

I'm sure there are more in there, but I'd love to find the Seiken Densetsu 2 theme, you know, the song that plays at the title screen... that should've been the theme of the Mana series instead of the SD1 theme, but oh well. :\

Edit: The FMV music is slowly making its way up -
http://oddigy.com/muz/dom-pss/
Keep in mind that it's BGM from FMV, so there will be sound fx and talking in the background sometimes.

Edit2: I can provide the (~625MB) original data if someone is insane enough to want to create a looping streamrip of this.  *eyes SquareTex* but unless you want to do that, there's no reason to have it.  I'll deliver that file by individual request only... it'd probably take me 1/4 of a day to upload it. tongue

This is wicked, thanks Amber big_smile

Just hit the dramatic choral/rock bit at 53 mins-ish. Outstanding so far.

jb Jan 1, 2007

I'm 15 minutes in and this is just brilliant.  Can't wait, this should get to me halfway through my 2 week "Burning Crusade" vacation big_smile.

Ryuichi Sakamoto wasn't involved in Tengai Makyou Ziria.
It's Joe Hisaishi (though it has recently been rumored Hisaishi let a spin crew to compose at least one song on that game).

Anyway, nice rip. Thanks for sharing.
The final battle theme section (from 1:56:25 to 1:58:35) is impressive, along with a latin song and a NES-chip song.

Joe Hisaishi didn't have a large role in the composition of the Tengai Makyou games, he did some Opening, Ending and Map Themes for Tengai Makyou II Manjimaru.  The rest are composed by other people, one of which may have been Ryuichi Sakamoto, not sure though.

*edit*

Look at this here, can't really read it well feel free to interpret

2:28:08 - Pain the Universe (Yoko Shimomura on Legend of Mana)

lordskylark Jan 1, 2007

I managed to figure out how to rip the music with MFaudio... I divided the track up into about 125 smaller tracks. I could edit them in a program and made them have loops. But about 50% of the tracks don't appear to be looping tracks.

Looks like you got the jump on me, LS. But it's good that someone's got it covered. smile

And thanks, Amber! big_smile

Ugh, yep, you were right! I have never known about it.
So, this is the 3rd game project of Sakamoto.

<--- Joe Hisaishi fanboy to the max!  I was pretty sure but I did have to double check anyway lol wink.

Dais Jan 4, 2007

I'm kind of shocked to hear that there's Kikuta and Shimomura music in this game...given how the game seems to go off on it's own tangent from all the otheres (despite being named SD4), I figured the only homages would be in a few Ito ttunes and the usual trappings of the series (enemies, elementals, etc). This is a nice surprise!

Thank you very much~

speyeker Jan 6, 2007

Thank you so much, Amber!  This is amazing!

Hey, I've heard that High Tension Wire from Seiken Densetsu III is in the OST somewhere.  Can anyone find it in that file?
