You like?

I loved their first album. Frances the Mute was way too inconsistent to me (still decent though). Stopped following them after that album.

Still follow Sparta; the other band that split off of At the Drive-In.

I thought the vocals sounded familiar...

First album was amazing.  Second album is a bit unfocused but it has some very good parts (in the middle of some of the 14 minute songs).  Third album is sheer genius and the fourth album is very good.  If I had to go back and rate them after listening to them for 7 years,

3 > 4 > 2 > 1

Sparta, on the other hand, is very easily the worse half of At the Drive-In.  I have never liked anything they put out, it's just boring and uninspired.  The Mars Volta might have lyrics and music that sounds like it's made while tripping acid, but musically it's brilliant.

I agree one hundred percent.
