Five CD set coming from Square Enix on July 21 (catalog no. SQEX-10376~80)

As the game seemed to be quite popular around here I couldn't help but notice this one.  Just to confirm, most of the music is straight from various FF OSTs, right?  Looking at the Square Enix description, the fifth disc only contains original arrangements.  Anything noteworthy among these that you guys remember from the game?

I haven't played it in a while but I think there were a few bonus arrangements and one piece that came from a trailer (FFXIII Versus, I think...?) but nothing that stood out. Most of the music just came from the games (maybe five tracks per game including DLC) and so I wouldn't see the need for a separate soundtrack - although I suppose it would be great for someone just discovering much of the music for the first time. Most of the music in the game was edited to short chunks so I would hope this offers the full versions of each track.

If this were a few years ago I would have bought it regardless... I kind of miss those days.

Edit: CDJapan have a tracklisting for four of the discs - http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=SQEX-10376

I believe those are the same tracklists for the BMS/EMS/FMS/Chaos Shrine albums already on iTunes - which are just short versions of the pieces.  Let's hope at least the CD soundtrack here has the full versions.

As far as the fifth disc is concerned, I counted 18 specially arranged tracks during my in-game recording of the 3DS version, including two different variations of the Prelude (one with just the acapella and another with the backing melody), and two different versions of the Prologue/Final Fantasy theme.  I'd heard there are one or two new arrangements featured on the iOS version -- I haven't listened to those, but maybe they'll find their way on the CD release as well?

The arrangements are largely relegated to the various menu screens, the title, and the ending.  Here's what disc 5's tracklisting could potentially look like:

* FF1 - Chaos Shrine (Chaos Shrine Menu BGM)
* FF1 - Cornelia Castle (Series Play Menu BGM)
* FF3 - Return of the Warrior (Series Play Results BGM)
* FF4 - Kingdom of Baron (Museum BGM)
* FF4 - Parom & Palom (Tutorial BGM)
* FF6 - Setzer (Party Edit BGM)
* FF7 - Highwind Takes to the Skies (Main Menu BGM)
* FF7 - Racing Chocobos ~ Place Your Bets! (Street Pass/ProfiCard BGM)
* FF9 - Hunter's Chance (Song Select BGM)
* FF9 - Rose of May (Museum Collection VGM)
* FFX - Thunder Plains (ProfiCard Edit BGM)
* FFXII - The Royal City of Rabanastre ~ City Ward Upper Level (DLC Menu BGM)
* FFXIII - Blinded By Light (Challenge Mode BGM)
* Prelude (Opening Logos)
* Prelude (Title Theme)
* Fanfare (Song Cleared BGM)
* Final Fantasy (Museum Collection Autoplay BGM)
* Final Fantasy (Staff Roll)

You can find a handful of in-game recordings on Youtube to gauge arrangement quality.  I've uploaded two of my personal faves myself, Highwind Takes to the Skies and the Final Fantasy Staff Roll.

I've been listening to the original arrangements on disc 5 and am surprised how much I'm enjoying them.  They're mostly modest re-synths, along the lines of Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon: Labyrinth of Forgotten Time but without the overemphasis on loud battle themes, which makes this one much easier to enjoy.

So they haven't announced a separate album release of just disc 5's original contents?  Even on digital?  Really? hmm
