Aggrandizing thread bump, here!

http://thunderforce.sega.jp/ .  Look at the second and third screens... Thunder Force III flashbacks, anyone?

Yes, you want this game.  It's Thunder Force VI!

Booyakasha!

Thunderforce III was the first import game I ever played.  I custom modded my Genesis back in the day to play it.

Looks like an October release in Japan.  US Release?  Thank god for my modded Ps2

Awesome!

It looks a hell of lot better than TF 5 but that's not saying much. I have a bad feeling the soundtrack will be similar, though.

I liked TF5... it was pretty stylish.  Needless to say I'm looking forward to it, thanks for the heads up dude *thumbs up*

The menus were cool. The level design, at least for the few levels I actually played, just didn't do it for me. For TF6 it looks like they're revisiting a lot of areas from TF2 & 3, so I'm stoked about that. Ahh, the skyscraper stage fom TF2! It would rule if they brought back that huge tank boss!

I thought they released a TF-VI soundtrack a while back (http://www.gmronline.com/info.asp?CatNumber=FNAG-0003). Wouldn't it make sense they'd use that, and indeed that this is probably that game they were working on that got cancelled?

Damn, that looks cool. I've recently been going bonkers over the Thunder Force V OST, and I ordered the TF VI music CD from Kahori.
I wonder if they're going to use the music that has already been composed or if there's going to be another TF VI OST? This is certainly an odd situation.

Doesn't look like they're going to use any of the TFVI albums. SEMO says the composers are going to be Tamayo Kawamoto, Go Sato, Motoaki Furukawa, and Tsuyoshi Kaneko, none of whom worked on either album, so we're looking at all new music.

Wow, I haven't heard anything new by Tamayo for a long time. Her music from the Ray series is still some of my favorite shooter tunes.

Lately she's part of a 2-gal duo called BETTA FLASH, and they've released 2 singles so far. (OP/ED vocal songs)

Wasn't the other more like EP? Atleast the first was ending single for Night Wizard-anime series, which music was partly composed by Tamayo also. And then self-titled EP Betta Flash, if I remember correctly. Good stuff thought.

Anyone play yet?   I just picked it up.  I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed.  I also, unfortunately read the reviews before I played it, but I have to say, they were on point.  There is something quite 'rushed' about TFVIs, especially with the same boss showing up, like...5 times (generic space robot type thing).  While there is some cool music throughout (and the classic sound effects), there is a really BAD j-pop instrumental song during the aforementioned boss that sounds like, just...completely lame...haha.  Anyway, I literally played through it within 20 minutes.  My PS2 was giving me some problems so I missed most of the cinematics, and the ending was butchered (my system gets like that when it's on for awhile)...I will try it again, hopefully without the experience being interrupted.  There was normal gameplay slowdown too...Was this a tribute back to the old days? (Don't think so)

Anyway, a bit of a let down...

Carl Nov 19, 2008

It was very short, and it didn't bring anything noteworthy to the table, just felt like a time warp back to any other early PlayStation shooter experience.  The couple of CGI scenes didn't even blend in with any of the levels or story for any cohesive whole.  Damn if I knew what that "Operation III" was supposed to be, or that heart logo even.

BTW, Furukawa's contribution to Thunder Force VI is a sham. It's just two reused non-copyrighted compositions from his recently released Traditional Shooting production music album. Otherwise very sweet music.

I really wish Furukawa would do what he does best, and make another pro-fusion album.  Seems like both Furukawa and Yonemitsu have all but abandoned VGM aside from the occasional track here and there.

Rynex is a much better plane to fly as - you have to collect all your weapons and CRAWs, and you lose them just like in the older TF games. Much harder, much more fun, and you get a different soundtrack for each ship!

That's the first I've heard of multiple soundtracks, one for each ship, so that will give me a reason to fire it up again. As for one coin playthroughs and "Perfect" runs, in general that seems to be more appealing to Japanese players than gaijins.
