Searching back through various posts (it never got its own thread sad ) it appears that several of you (XLord, Amazingu, Wanderer) were big fans of the Tomb Raider reboot.  It's on sale until Dec 10 for $10.50 as part of the PSN holiday sale - is that pretty much a no-brainer?  This would be my first time to even touch a TR game since the PS1 days.  And I should mention that it would be vying for attention against Uncharted 3, which is in the mail.

The new Tomb Raider was one the absolute best games the year it came out.  It's easily the best Tomb Raider game ever made, and I also *much* prefer it to anything in the Uncharted franchise so far, even though I still love Uncharted 2.

I'm sorry, I take issue with that. Give me the 1996 original. And no, I'm not going to call it "Tomb Raider 1996" to appease people...

I'm willing to admit that nostalgia plays a big part in me saying that (the original Tomb Raider was my first 3D platformer) but at the same time I'm willing to admit that the none of the followups Core made even touched it. I thought Tomb Raider III was especially bad.

Edit:

I should probably elaborate a bit more. This kind of reminds me of when my one, younger friend played the reboot and then played the 1996 original. He had some issues with the controls. Unlike some gamers I didn't berate him or anything and could honestly see his point... I can see how the original game seem antiquated to those who didn't grow up with it. I know I was kind of blunt above because I really do love the original game... I didn't really mean to come off defending it or trashing the reboot in some silly fanboyish dance. But damn it... I really do love the original game despite it being kind of rustic now.

And I should probably cover this now: Tomb Raider Anniversary was decent but several things about it irked me and I'd still take the original over it.

Yep, I quite liked TR, enough to double dip on it when they released the Definitive Edition.

I agree with Ashley that it's kind of "dumbed down" in the sense that where the original games required extremely tight and calculated platforming, this is just "Uncharted with Lara" and everything is pretty much automatic.

That said, it's funny that it kind of out-Uncharted-s Uncharted, which was heavily influenced by Tomb Raider in the first place, since it's a much better game than the bloated mess that was Uncharted 3 imho.

I'm interested in hearing what you think of both titles, Adam.

Yes, I loved the new Tomb Raider. Just a fantastic game all around. Much better than the Uncharted games.

Changed the topic title to make it Tomb Raider-centric.

You guys certainly convinced me... I'll probably play through Uncharted 3 first for continuity's and comparison's sake, but will chime in on both titles once I'm through them.
