Seriously, who all are being these?

Come on Shout!Factory!  You have to be out of Nintendo and Sega cartoons to release (the complete Sonic series is released this month).  Where in the hell is the next box set of 'Where On Earth Is Carmen Sandiego?'?

Does 6/5/07 mean June 5th or May 6th?

I am way too used to international dates and 24 hour clocks.

You know, it's really things like this that show the negative side and relative in-expense of the DVD format when it is *supposedly* profitable to resurrect shows/cartoons that are better left to the ages and the memories/therapy sessions of past generations...

For about at the past year I've been seeing box sets for old shows/cartoons in the DVD sections of stores I would honestly cringe at buying or watching - let alone their existence on the format. I mean do we REALLY need to subject new generations to the horror that was "Full House" (I feel my soul drain away even mentioning the show) or something else that causes further emotional scaring.

The point is some things do not age gracefully and you think companies would be more aware of any show/cartoon's "cultural expiration date"

Jason, June 5th.

Ashley, I would assume that they must have made some sorta profit for them to release both of the Super Mario box sets, the Legend of Zelda box set, Captain N box set, Sonic box set, AND still plan on releasing this Super Mario Bros 3 box set.

Heh, I am curious how well the Full House sets have sold...

Man, if this is done the same way that Captain N was done, I am sure to expect radically different programming than what I watched when I was a kid.

For me, it's all about the nostalgia.  Buying back my childhood, one DVD box at a time. ;D

I read a really good detailed review of the Captain N DVD set, and found out that they changed a bunch of the music, and left out a bunch of episodes, despite calling the collection "The Complete Series" :(

I bet Super Mario World is next.  Man, that show was so corny, but I liked it. -_- It was a Saturday morning tradition.

Heh, you know, I recently watched a few episodes of some cartoons I used to watch as a kid (Transformers, Voltron, Thunder Cats, etc), and I realize that most of them have the nostalgia factor, but they really don't age well. There are exceptions of course (some episodes are still very good, and some series are still quite good), but for vast majority, I'm simply not interested in watching them again (often it's bad voice acting, bad scripts, bad this, bad that...) but on the other hand, certain series such as Looney Tunes, The Tick, The Critic, Gargoyles, Batman...etc. are SO good, that they're even better now than when I first watched them years ago!

cheers,

Awesome, I knew it was just a matter of time.  Now all that's left is Super Mario World!

avatar, I disagree on The Critic; I don't think it aged well at all.  Batman: TAS, that follow-up with the bad animation, and Batman Beyond are pretty good.  I can't stand Superman: TAS though, but only because the show is so boring.   It's obvious Looney Tunes has lasting appeal---they've been around for like 60 years or so.  I'm surprised how much I've enjoyed the Animaniacs I've been watching; makes me curious how well Tiny Toons will be if they ever get released.  I'm also curious if Disney plans on releasing box sets of the X-Men cartoon... how would it age?  Speaking of Disney, if they would announce a date for the rest of Gargoyles I'll snatch those up.  Although, I've yet to get any of the Disney Afternoon animated stuff I was considering a while back (Duck Tales, Darkwing Duck, Gummi Bears).  I think the Transformers Beast series (Wars and Machines) are good too.  Obviously, I'm partial for the Carmen Sandiego cartoon as well; I think it was well done too.  I'm curious about a few other shows, like Inspector Gadget or Mummies Alive.  It is amazing how nostalgia can blind you---the old Transformers and GI Joe cartoons are tolerable, but I can't stand others like Thundercats.

Actually, the Captain N set sounds pretty nice...They're missing a clips episode (who cares), Season 3 (junk for the most part, the Megaman 3 and Final Fantasy episodes aside) and the remade songs we all knew wouldn't be on there anyway (though any original songs did make it on...I'm personally more interested in the BGM arranges in the actual score anyway. Losing those would have been a travesty). Thanks for the tip that it was out...I've already placed my order!

I personally would love to own the Mario 3 set, just because I missed basically all of it and would like to remind myself how bad it was. Was that the one with the episode where everyone was obsessed with egg sandwiches (or was that the Mario World series?) I woke up wrong one morning and I thought that episode was just part of a bad dream. As long as the Koopa Kids are there (in spirit, if not in PROPER name), I'll probably spring.

Got it! I am a tad disappointed in the quality of the video and the music. The voices are really loud and clear, but the music never really seems to get louder. The video quality sucks to put it nicely...It's really fuzzy and even flickery, plus the colors are a tad washed out. It's all there, but I swear this show actually looked better when it was on the air...I'll have to check one of my old tapes and compare things.

Wow though...I'm really not used to the lightning-fast pace of this show anymore. I knew from memory how much they crammed into each episode (fights, plot setting, sight gags, Mother Brain beating the tar out of her henchmen), but now I really feel how it was put together to fit into a 22 minute runtime (although remember that the show usually had 3 seperate breaks for commercials). Even compared to shows of the era, it's a lot. I feel old trying to keep up with it. It's a great feeling actually...I have to retrain my brain to watch it again.

One last thing that bothers me: I'm only now realizing that Venus Terzo was both the voice actor for Lana and female Ranma, since she used the same voice for both parts. Considering I've seen both shows in their entirety, I'm disappointed in myself for not catching that years ago.

And another I just caught today for the first time - Princess Milerna in Vision of Escaflowne.
