As that's only the list of music available from the start, and like with everything in Smash plenty stuff is hidden to be unlocked by the player, I wouldn't comment about the composers' contribution based on that list alone.

Also according to earlier info (and mentioned again in the interview) composers where able to pick their choices from a list, so they decided the selection (or at least the arranging direction of the preselection) as well.

Qui-Gon Joe Jan 29, 2008

Just a random note, too, Mistuda's email newsletter stated that he did two tracks for the game.

Datschge Jan 29, 2008

On the Japanese website he mentioned that in May 22th already.

Anyway there are a couple recordings from SSBB, spoiler free as far as I can see (since untagged and with "improper" titles as file names) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=244XUXM8

Sephiro444 Jan 30, 2008

Those bad and horribly tagged recordings gave me an idea.

I'm sure someone will post a link to something that's been around forever (but not TOO long in the case of some songs, since the latest is Jan. 23), but I went ahead and ripped the audio files from the Flash files on the Smash Bros. Dojo, tagged them PROPERLY, and even threw in some cover art.

Sure, it's not new music, but it's unaltered sound quality, compiled together, and in a format you can take with you on the go.

Available here.

Datschge Jan 30, 2008

I expect the game to be fully streamed (just like Melee), so even though there's likely no OST release to happen we can still expect someone to rip all music since the common Wii streaming format has already been figured out.

Sephiro444 Jan 31, 2008

Well, either way, I have the game now (it's great, btw).  The various tracks in the sound test have to be individually unlocked, so that could take a while (and result in an analog recording anyway).  If anyone has suggestions on how to get at that streaming data directly, I'm all ears!

Datschge Feb 2, 2008

Over at smashboards someone is working on a rip, reporting that "There are 314 BGMs and 27 of them Victory Themes or long SFX, so 314 - 27 = 287 actual InGame BGMs".

Sweet Zombie Jesus on a Stick, that's HUGE.
That pretty much rules out an official release I guess.... sad

jeriaska Feb 3, 2008

It appears the same files just got encoded into mp3s, just over a gig.

absuplendous Feb 3, 2008

The MP3 torrent is downloading much more quickly, naturally. The lack of titles sort of works in its favor, as it's like opening little presents, unsure of what's inside. With Tetris Type A, Dr. Mario Chill, Panel de Pon, Stickerbush Symphony, Metroid Prime Pinball, Super Metroid Ending, Yoshi's Island Athletic, and more, it feels a lot like Christmas morning.

On the other hand, there are tunes that sound so familiar but I can't place them, so I'm itching for titles.

It's also so very nice to have clear copies of Melee tracks, finally.

And in the time it took me to type this, my torrent finished, so time to load this into my MP3 player and go to bed happy. smile

TerraEpon Feb 3, 2008

I wonder if there are actually 287 different pieces, or a lot of them are small variations?

-Joshua

Qui-Gon Joe Feb 3, 2008

Just as a general FYI, watching some of the "spoiler" videos for the game reveals that there's a lot of music just taken directly from original games.  Don't expect all 287 pieces to be new arrangements.

Datschge Feb 3, 2008

Yea, the amount of arrangements which could work on an AST are pretty much in the minority overall, but they should still be able to fill several CDs (especially when looping). Also there are plenty original, arranged and medley track of games (spoiler: Wario Ware songs in both En/Ja, Wii Channel/"non-game" pieces, Golden Sun battle theme medley etc.) which didn't and likely never will find the way onto OSTs.

allyourbaseare Feb 4, 2008

Got the torrent downloading at my place right now.  It looks like a collection of BGM from the various games (at least that's what I gathered from the track info), but hopefully that isn't the case.  I can't imagine 1 GIG's worth of music on one game.  That's impressive.

I CANNOT HANDLE the amount of awesome they crammed into this game.  It is simply beyond me.  The SMW Castle theme? With the SMB3 boss music mixed in? I was finished right there, and that's only six tracks in.

EDIT: asdfasdfghjkl;  LUIGI'S MANSION TRACK. ORGAN AND CHOIR. SOMEONE CALL 911.

Wow, so about 86-ish tracks are the originals, compared with what looks like 150+ new tracks.   This is looking to be the release of the century.  I know I couldn't get any more psyched.

Angela Feb 4, 2008 (edited Feb 5, 2008)

Haven't listened to all of them, but I leapt like a lemur for the WarioWare set.   Holy moly, did they give the vocal tracks some wild makeovers.  Especially the English version of Ashley's Song.

BEST.  COVER.  EVER.  :D

Arcubalis Feb 4, 2008

I really love the Norfair Remix.  Favorite one so far.

Amazingu Feb 4, 2008

I'm not that much of an MGS music fan, but putting Battle in the Base in there was a stroke of sheer brilliance.

In fact, I am EXTREMELY satisfied with the track selection for just about every series, except Sonic.
Would it have hurt to give us some remixes? And where the heck is Chemical Plant Zone!?

Kenology Feb 4, 2008

I can't get over this list... too many great selections I look foward to hearing (been waiting for a Dark World Forest arrangement since forever).

Agreed.  Can't think of a better Metal Gear battle song to place in Brawl - can't wait to hear it with the action!

I'm really digging the new arrangement of MGS1's Encounter, though.  It's not often we hear Metal Gear pieces set to a dance beat. :)

The fact that Shimomura was responsible for Q10 pretty much cements her place as my favorite game music writer EVER.

Datschge Feb 13, 2008 (edited Feb 13, 2008)

That list is quite old and still contains potential factually wrong entries, like switched B01/B08 (see Japanese nicovideo entry for proof) since it's based on a Japanese 2ch post which sorted the tracks according to in-game order, not that of the widespread rip (which appeared later).

allyourbaseare Feb 13, 2008

I've got the torrent downloaded at home and I still have not listened to it.  What's wrong with me?!

Arcubalis Feb 24, 2008

Is there a new torrent anywhere that has the files tagged with composer names?  I've downloaded the thing twice already, as the first didn't have track names, and the second doesn't have composer names.
