My codes (also in signature):

- Wii: 1401-4565-6640-7167
- Brawl: 0044-2472-3418

A couple minor gripes:
- Loading happens often and it can be long at times.  The Wii's super-loud seek noises don't help, either.  neutral
- Graphics problems are very visible on large HDTVs.  But that's because the signal is stuck in 480p, which isn't HD resolution.  The same problem occurs with some PS2 games widescreen mode, so it's no big deal here.

All flights to Toronto canceled due to 25cm of snow in the GTA.  So I would've had to wait until Monday to go out, so I just said to hell with it.  I'll go visit in May.  I'm a bit disappointed but at least I have Smash to play!  Can't be mad at that.

Adding my Brawl code, I'll most likely be on later tonight. Don't expect amazing things, though. I'm rusty as all hell.

What's your code, Ryu?

I have no idea what my Wii and SSBB codes are.  I told my friend over the phone, so I didn't write them down, and I'm in the midst of a SSE stage so I can't check.  He and I were playing earlier, he lives 15 minutes away and we did have some lag a few times, and once we lost connection completely, over the course of our dozen or so matches.

Red HamsterX Mar 10, 2008

My code is 4124-4689-2916; I've added everyone here.

My SSBB friend code is 3652-0210-8706.  Profile name = Hvy D.

The game's decent, but like SSBM, there's just too much junk to unlock and I know I'll never unlock even a quarter of it all.  Also, jeers to the load times.  I know these load times are normal for non-Nintendo optical disc based games, but Nintendo has spoiled us with virtually load time free Cube and Wii games these many years.

allyourbaseare Mar 10, 2008

Waited outside Sam's Club for 2 hours in 50 degree (Farenheit) weather to get it.  Totally worth it!

So far, I'm enjoying the game immensely.  The Subspace Emissary is chock-full of fan service and twist and turns everywhere you look.  The story doesn't take itself too seriously, which is probably half the reason I like it so much.

I haven't tried an online match yet, mostly because I figure the Nintendo servers will be too full for a decent online experience.  I'll play through the rest of it this week and then hopefully see a few of you on the weekend to duke it out!

Who are you guys fighting as?  For me, it's Pit in 1st (for now) followed by Diddy Kong.  Of course, this is just in the SE and probably won't reflect who I'm going to choose for a battle.

Jockolantern Mar 11, 2008

Roy was my main man in SSBM, so I was very sad to see him disappear for Brawl.  Fortunately, Ike is an amazing replacement and has already earned my favor above Roy!  He controls a lot more smoothly, has massive range, and hits HARD.

This game is every bit as amazing as I thought it would be.  It'll be seeing pleeeeenty of time in my Wii.  I'll post my friend code once I get home from work.

Yeah, Roy was one of my three characters besides Link and Captain Falcon.  Ike took a few rounds to get the hang of, but I agree with you, he's a suitable replacement.  Once you get his timing down, he's a beast.  I find myself relying on his counter more than I did with Roy too.

Xlord, Kenology and Angela have been confirmed.

Get cracking on those Brawl codes, people! smile

Zorbfish Mar 12, 2008

Really impressed with this game so far. At first I figured we'd just get a overhyped rehash of melee (not that that's a bad thing!) but the amount of detail in this one is amazing.

I'm all over the map as to who I'll play as, but I REALLY like meta-knight.

I've added SonicPanda, Kenology. Abrahm, Red HamsterX, XLord007, and Angela.

Stephen Mar 14, 2008

I tried playing online yesterday (after being unable to connect to it on day 2) and I ran into such horrible lag.  It slowed to a crawl in most games.  It ran normally when there were only 3 players instead of 4.  Only once did I have a 4-person brawl that ran normally.  Anybody experience this themselves?

Stephen Mar 14, 2008 (edited Mar 16, 2008)

My Brawl code is 4511 0194 8964.
Name is ERIOL (capital letters).

allyourbaseare Mar 14, 2008

Alright, sorry I'm kinda late on this but..

my code is:

4382-1741-8000

and my profile is ALLUR (five characters, wtf?)

I've added everyone except for Stephen, which I plan to do shortly.  I'm mostly on at night (8:00 + PST) and I hope to see you all on there!

I'm playing as Sonic right now (that should come as a surprise to NO ONE) and he's pretty decent.

Thanks for the compliment.  smile

I'm LionR (Space Lion), and Bowser is the only character I use for now.  But really, I'm not all that great.  Bowser has significant disadvantages against most of the other characters (as you probably saw when you used R.O.B.), and I lose much more often than I win.

Still, I'm not playing to maintain some kind of stellar winning record or become a tourney-level pro.  Bowser has a lot of bad matchups, and I'm having fun just playing and figuring them out.

That was more luck than anything.  It wouldn't let me into your matches most of the time.  I only got in twice, the first time where the guy dropped out and the lag went away, and the second time where it was super laggy and the match died.

Wait for it... SMG will piss you off eventually and you'll be more than ready to have SSBB to kick that little moron's ass.  But, on its own, I really have enjoyed Brawl and recommend it if you've enjoyed the previous ones, but it isn't a massive departure from SSBM---if you aren't a fan of the series, it reallly doesn't offer anything revolutionary that would change your mind.

For my part, I've added everybody who's posted in this thread. (Just added allyourbase, Jockolantern, and Stephen), but have been unsuccessful on every occasion to meet up with you guys.  You're all either offline or I'm unable to join in on a game.  I've only been able to do a Basic Brawl online match, like twice, in the very early morning hours - and, like XLord, the lag was terrible.  Never even got to finish the fights, as it would freeze up and then my connection would be lost.

Ryu wrote:

Wow..... this visible hatred for a VG mascot is just about on par with Jay and Sonic.  Dude, what about Mario is pissing you off so?  Granted, I think the guy has become a bit swarmy over the past few years (how are you gonna burn off Bowser's flesh like that in NSMB and go, "That's-a so nice!"?!), but is Galaxy really peeving you that bad?

I'm inclined to agree.  After a week of playing, I've found myself falling into the same trappings as Melee; it's just not a very enjoyable game to play without friends.  Part of me wants me to go ahead and start the massive journey for unlockables, but the gameplay against the CPU alone just suddenly got very boring to me.  The single-player Subspace Emissary quest is actually quite fun, and is definitely the best part of the game by far; the graphics are drop-dead gorgeous and many a times makes me wish they'd make fully-fleshed out platformer titles like these.  I love that every character is getting a fair shake in the story, but even so, the undeviating beat-em-up nature is getting a mite repetitive.

You get denied because the connection between us is horrible.  During the few times we played, the lag was unbearable.  I don't know if it's caused by the distance between us (I'm in Ohio) or other connection issues.  But playing lagged-out matches isn't any fun at all.

Fighting against characters and stage hazards in this game is hard enough.  It's even more difficult when you use a slow, timing-reliant character like Bowser, who can be a big punching bag for most of the others.  When you add connection lag to all of that, the game becomes frustrating and nearly unplayable when online.

As for not finding players online... what exactly are you expecting?  I'd wager that most people here are just looking for a fun match every now and then, not every hour of every night of the week.  And most people here (myself included) are not as passionate about it as you seem to be.  But why are you letting that bother you?  There are plenty of other places to get SSBB friend codes.  You can simply add those to your list to increase the likelihood that you'll get a match when you want it.

And really, complaining about a shortage of online players during a Saturday evening?  You don't see anything wrong with that?  neutral

Whoa, dude.  What the hell is wrong with you?  Are you on your period or somethin', homie?  First off, I was only wondering where all the STC folks have been in the wake of all the excitement the past week (see page 1 & 2 on this page).  My friend list is filled to capacity almost - I was looking for STC forum members in particular (obviously), just like Idolores.  Just looking to have a little fun with some of the folks around here.

And dude, in the end, it was just an inquiry.  I would say that something is clearly bothering you, because its really not that serious, and I have no idea how you could gauge otherwise in my post which you quoted.  You need to watch your tone and that sass because it was totally unwarranted.  I wasn't looking for STC folks to be online on a Saturday night, neither was Idolores I'd assume, but I only made that post on a Saturday night.  There's a big difference.

You clearly have some issues, Abrahm!  Besides the sentence or two about our connection issues, your post is pretty disposable, very unnecessary, and totally uncalled for. You should have a little more respect and sort out whatever it is bothering you on your own time, not on the forums.  I hear a little Motrin works wonders for those cramps.  Hope everything works out for you dude.

"Just an inquiry"?  You sent me a request to play a game just after midnight Sunday morning.  After I denied you twice in a row (once should have been enough), you hopped offline and immediately ran to this board to post about how I'm "always [denying you]" and complain about not finding people online Saturday evening.  Think about that for a minute.  After that, I want you to tell me why I shouldn't be annoyed by that, and tell me what was so "totally unwarranted" about my response to you.

Kenology wrote:

HO HO HO!  Motrin?  For cramps?  That was funny!  You wrote that yourself, right?  I bet you did, you funny guy!  And you know me well enough to say I have issues!  +2 internet cool points for Kenology!

I will say again that we have played each other a few times before, and each match was practically a slideshow.  I gave you the benefit of the doubt after the first couple times.  But after the third time, and after ensuring that my connection wasn't causing the problem, I decided to stop playing against you.  Maybe you enjoy playing in lagged out matches or something, I don't know.  But I know I don't.

Afterwards, I kept denying your requests, and you just kept trying to get into every game that I hosted, even when I was already playing against others.  For whatever reason, you couldn't take the hint.  Again, you wanna tell me why I shouldn't be annoyed with that?

But I guess you'll just reply and say you don't remember any of this, just like you somehow forgot the few matches we played.  I saw the first response to me you posted Sunday morning, and you acknowledged that you wanted to "try again", though you somehow didn't remember playing against me. neutral  Nevermind that I haven't run into any other KEN, with code 2964-8266-3925 and KENOLOGY in the comment space, who uses Link.  Forget about the fact that the connection indicator shows orange or red for our two tags.  I must be making all of this up because I have some kind of attitude problem, or just wanting to type more "disposable" text.  I should just "watch [my] tone and sass" and "respect" Mr. O' Great and All-Powerful Kenology for pestering me after I already told him 'NO' a hundred times (with good reason).  Yeah, that's it.

Now, if you wanna continue this nonsense, funny guy, then send me a private message.  There's no reason to clutter this board with it, and there's definitely no reason to involve others when they don't have anything to do with it.

Oh, I finished SMG---but Toy Time and Purple Coins ring a bell?  I did the trial galaxy and, even though I died a few times (ESPECIALLY on that stupid ball crap), I still had almost 50 lives; when I went to Toy Time, I had around 12 left before I finally got it.  I probably shouldn't have stopped playing for more than a couple months or so, sure, but that game had all sorts of issues that got to me.

Yeah, finishing Subspace Emissary should be the first thing one does---it's the best way to unlock characters, unless you have a chance to play MANY multi-player games on your own console, since online doesn't count for jack.  And SSE makes me wish companies still made solid console platformers, and also that Namco would make a new Klonoa and would've asked Nintendo for his inclusion in this game.

What are you talkin' about?  Dude, if I see a game, I just click on it and play.  Nothing more.  I don't ever remember playing you before - so I don't know what you mean about liking "lagged out matches".  I mentioned that above, you must've missed it.

Your room was the only one open at the moment with the "waiting" so I clicked on it a couple of times.  I never got the "unable to join game" message before, so I thought it was some kind of error akin to the one where people randomly get booted out of the Nintendo WFC.  A friend over Skype told me that the message means that you were denied entry.  So I figured you just wanted a one-on-one with whoever you were brawling with and I didn't try again.

When I said that "Abrahm keeps denying me!", I didn't mean that as an attack on you, it was just a statement.  And again, I don't ever remember playing you... not necessarily saying I haven't.  Just that I have no recollection.

And please don't misquote me.  The 'inquiry' I was speaking of is the original post that you quoted.

Your hyperbole kills me.

In conclusion, this is stupid and petty.  You're the one making a HUGE deal out of nothing.  It's like you had bottled up anger and rage towards me and was just ready to explode on the forums!  This Internet thug persona you got going on is really corny, Abrahm.  It's only Smash Bros., man... you seem way more passionate about this than anyone in this thread.  If a couple requests to play a game with you sets you off, then I don't know what to tell you man.  I deleted you from my roster.  Sorry about those "PMS" comments I made earlier - shouldn't have went there.  So let's just squash this right here.

I added everyone in this thread.  I don't know what conditions have to be met for it to stop saying "Awaiting Registration" aside from them adding you as well.  I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure you show up as verified on mine.

Stephen Mar 16, 2008 (edited Mar 16, 2008)

I added everybody here, but only Idolores is showing up as accepting my friend code.  Everybody else is showing up as "Awaiting Registration."  I don't know what is going on here either, unless I mistyped the friend codes.  Angela's code has an orange dot next to it, so I don't know what that means.

When I boot up the game, I check to see if anybody is online in the online friends area.

Maybe we should try to declare some time windows of availability, so people can gather around those times?

The lag is sporadic.  On some games, I have no problems.  On others, the frame rates drops to zero (yes, zero) within seconds.

There is a gamefaqs thread on port forwarding the game packets to the Wii to improve performance (but everybody in the brawl has to do this).
