That's a lot of games, and Hudson is looking to try to bring other 3rd party games into the virtual console as well, including games from companies that no longer exist.  Funny how the representative said they have every single lawyer of theirs looking into that possiblity.

Hudson must smell a cash cow... I wonder why Sega is so quiet.

Planetgamecube added these interesting tidbits:

"The price of downloadable games is not currently finalized, though it is likely to mirror Xbox Live Arcade game prices. While franchises like Bonk and Bomberman are pretty much guaranteed to appear, the Ys series is also likely to appear. Many of the Hudson employees are big fans of the series, and it is a favorite of the president of the company. It is not currently clear how the Virtual Console will handle previously CD-based video games, but the company believes that they will make it work.

Konami’s buyout of Hudson last year had many concerned about the future of the company. However, operations have not changed at Hudson and they continue to develop their games independently, with financial support from Konami. Hudson was Nintendo’s first third-party developer, so we were curious whether it was Hudson or Nintendo that came up with the idea for TurboGrafx-16 games on the Virtual Console, though it was apparently Konami who mediated the deal."

Hudson's interested in Ys on the VC, making cd-based games possible (hopefully Sega feels the same), and that Konami "mediated the deal"---makes me really curious how interested Konami is in the VC itself.  Konami is one company that, outside of bundling up Gradius and obscure crap, has never shown much interest in tapping into the retro market.  Here's hoping the VC changes that.

As for Hudson, I'm not all that familiar with most of their stuff; I hope the pricing is cheap enough that I can give most, if not all, of their catalog a shot.

Woah, the Hudson prez and employees like Ys? They're my friends.

I'd take Hudson's version of Ys IV over Falcom's New Theory.  No wonder Hudson's versions of Ys worked well.  And who can forget Yomenitsu's arranged music in those games.

At this rate, I might not only buy a Wii... I just might hump it, too.

Don't forget, McCall, that Hudson published nearly all of the Falcom games for the PC Engine.  They have a long history together.  Except that Hudson likes that superfluous apostrophe in the title of Ys...

Hehe... I'm telling you, if Nintendo and other companies deliver on the capabilities of the Wii, it will be THE system to get in the next few years!!

cheers,
