This is interesting from The Magic Box.  Apparently, SNK Playmore (USA at least) will release nothing else for XB and is tired of Sony rejecting their games.  I would think they would have had a good run with Xbox Live and found it shocking that they would pull XB support; Sony's asinine anti-2D stance is justification why they would forsake Sony.

Here's the original interview for some context:

He only says that they've stopped supporting the original Xbox. In fact, he's rather adamant about it: "Xbox is done. Version 1 Xbox is totally done. They haven't announced that it's over but believe me, it's over. That category is gone. There will be nothing new from us for Xbox." However, they haven't ruled out doing anything for the 360 yet. Live Arcade is mentioned, but Mr. Herman doesn't sound too enthused about it.

You definitely get a sense that he wants to support Wii the most.  He brings up the high development costs of the other systems and the 360's lack of a consumer base in Japan, as well as Sony's aforementioned anti-2D stance, yet generally only has nice things to say about Wii. When asked about getting SNK classics onto the Virtual Console, he says, "I am not going to hold back." It'll be interesting to see just how much they'll support Wii.

There's also some interesting stuff mentioned about Nintendo actively telling developers to create accessories for the Wii. For some reason, I'm really itching for a chainsaw shell for Resident Evil.

Thanks for the clarification.  I thought it was odd that they would abandon Microsoft, especially Xbox Live, but makes sense that high-dev cost and a lack of an install base in Japan would limit their interest to go gung-ho with the 360.

Ugh, speaking of Japanese gamers, Famitsu's reader top 10 E3 stories was dominated by Sony and Square-Enix.  It's rather sad.

Interestingly enough, though, I had heard a statistic that Japanese gamers were roughly 77 percent pro-Nintendo during E3, while only 18 percent was for Sony.  The remainder went to Microsoft.

There was even a Japanese web poll with a similar result for Nintendo where Microsoft even managed to beat Sony. Considering how much of a non-show Microsoft still is over there (and I doubt it will significantly change anymore at this point) this is telling alot.

I wouldn't take these Japanese polls too seriously.  Take Mother 3 for example.  That game has allegedly been one of the country's most anticipated games, yet it sold a paltry 200,000 copies in its first week.  I think what we're seeing in a lot of these polls is that you're getting more hardcore responders that aren't representative of the market as a whole.

Yes, please remember that the people who respond to Famitsu polls are likely primarily the twitchy smelly folk I avoid getting onto elevators with in Akihabara.  Many, many people buy and play video games over here and the majority of them are not hard core Famitsu readers/responders.
