I think the diagram only implies more projects are on the way... As IGN says, "chart was likely just for illustrative purposes, as Square Enix hasn't announce a specific number of planned projects, but Wada made clear that in addition to non game-related goods, additional games are a possibility."

However, according to the holes, no "big" project (not as big as Agito XIII, that's for sure) is really on the way.

See, the reason they could milk FF7 was because FF7 is the most popular of the FF games.  What if FFXIII comes out and everyone hates it and no one buys the spinoffs?  Also I'm curious to see if Square's rushing to get xbox360 versions of the PS3 titles out.  I'd certainly be considering it if I were working at Square and had gone anywhere on the internet and seen the backlash vs. the PS3's price...

At this point they probably expect each new FF to sell far less than in the past, so to make up for that they simply add even more of them...

Zane May 25, 2006

All this means to me is more Hamauzu and hopefully Sakimoto.

SquareTex May 25, 2006

True, true...although I'd like to see Nakano and Sekito jump on those spinoff also.

I think it is most unlikely to happen. Not that the original FFXIII will be great (though I do not doubt about it), but the fanbase is very hard to disappoint. Yoichi Wada did compare it with Star Wars after all...

I'm looking forward to both PlayStation 3 games, in any case. I'm not sure all this is a good idea, but for the moment it sure looks great to me.

That's almost what happened to Code Age.  It was planned as this huge cross-media brand like .hack, but the PS2 version didn't do so hot and the rest of the project vanished.

Square Enix still keeps milking the cow, I see.

Exactly.  That's what I was thinking of when I made that post, as I had noticed a few issues of the manga in a store earlier yesterday evening and remembered what a huge deal Square thought Code Age was gonna be and the realization of how well it actually performed.

Well, if this isn't blatant fanboy pimpage, I don't know what is. It's not making a dent in the ugly image of PS3's price tag or FF's tarnished reputation in any case.

But hey, as long as it keeps some of those fanboys dripping off into other JRPG's, no real complaints. Except now there's two huge sub-franchises within the series that are all Tetsuya Nomura's designs.

I agree.  I have no interest in any number of FFXIIIs, or the PS3 at its announced price, at all.

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.

Nomura's only involved in FF Versus XIII, as far as I know.  Oddly enough, that's the only game in the set so far that has any point of interest for me - that being that I'll at least be buying the soundtrack of it, given that it's Shimomura.  Yay!  Too bad as a teacher I'll probably never be able to afford the system that will allow me to play the game.  tongue

Nomura's designs are featured in all 3 FFXIII games, and is also the Director of Versus.
